My father introduced me to Willow when I was a child obsessed with Star Wars. I loved the film the first time I watched it, and I would often replay it over and over again. So watching this trailer, seeing Warwick return as Willow, and Joana return as Sorsha, actually made me tear up. It brought back so many childhood memories of just watching this with my dad. I immediately showed the trailer to him, and we're both excited to watch the next chapter of this underrated fantasy.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this film ever since seeing it when it was first released in theaters. I always knew there was more to the story. When Bavmorda accidentally banished herself she was still clutching Cherlindrea's wand, so I always had this feeling that she would find a way back to cause more mischief. I'm not sure if that's how this story will go, but I'm glad to see it return. I hope it's as fun and innocent as the movie was. Good luck to everyone involved. 😎🌈❤️☮️

So I literally teared up watching this. Willow I watched so many times as a child, and even as an adult I'm still not tired of it. This is so huge to me. You think of all the villains in so many of these fantasy films/series and none of them can hold a candle to the woman that played Queen Bavmordah. She would kill children to save herself, even almost throwing her own daughter on a wall of spikes just because she stood up to her. That fight with Bavmordah and Raazell is probably one of the best battles ever for a fantasy film during that time. The dragon born from that gross meat ball. The whole army Bavmordah turned into pigs. Omg I'm totally here for this. It's the only reason I will get Disney +.

Edit: Honestly, when I made this comment, I never expected it to get as much attention as it did. But now, seeing other people's moving replies on how much they related to my experience, it made me feel like I needed to be honest. Because I don't necessarily have a good relationship with my father now. It's not horrible by any means. But it's more... absent emotionally, I would say. I guess it's both our fault because we have a hard time opening up to each other that way. However, I grew resentful about it because I'm more emotional than he is. Still, a part of me craves that bond we had when I was younger. So despite my feelings, I showed him this trailer. And just for that split moment, I wanted to treasure that very brief connection we had together. Showing him the trailer brought back memories of good times before I grew up. It brought back a little bit of peace before it was all silent again. The trailer brought a feeling I can look fondly back at. It's why I made my comment originally. However, after reading other people's good experiences with their fathers through the movie and trailer, my comment suddenly felt like a fraud because I don't have that same connection those people had anymore. But I remain truthful that I hold on to what I could from this experience in this relationship I have. Because in the end, despite everything that happened, we can still have the good memories to give us comfort.

Given Disney's track record for quality series lately I'm really stoked they went this route rather than a remake. Great to see Joanne Whalley at 0:22 & 0:43 too, she's still got it. I fear Madmartigan's absence though, he was essential to the magic of the film.

I hope this will be good! It was nice seeing Willow & Sorcha back in the trailer, but lack of a healthy Val Kilmer returning as Madmartigan will be sorely missed! I am glad that he will at least have some minor presence in the new series though. The 80's was a great time for fantasy epics like this, Legend, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and others. I have great memories of my son and I watching the movie, and then later, playing the Nintendo game together!

cried seeing this. Such a special movie growing up for me as well. It's my Lord of the Rings before Lord of the Rings and the combination of George Lucas Ron Howard and James Horner just hits a specific nostalgic nerve that it brings it all back. I was yelling and screaming with joy at seeing this because I cannot wait for this to come out. And I really am an advocate for the newer generations to see these older fantasy films from the 80s Labyrinth, Willow, Legend, Dark Crystal all of these fantastic films that influenced Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones and all of the other fantasy shows.

Yes! This looks awesome! Everyone's pointing out everything, so here is my go. There is a short but VERY clear shot of what looks to be trolls from the original film but they look so much cooler! They have weapons, armor, it almost looks like it could be an underground culture. Everything else is looking great, and it will be nice to have a wholesome fantasy series in the midst of House of the Dragon.

For me, a lot of it depends on how its handled; the 2003 BSG was fantastic, and I couldn't see it doing remotely as well if they tried to make it a continuation of the 1979 series; heck, there are some movies people don't even know are remakes (let alone the 3rd or 5th time). Granted, I tend to prefer new stories instead of just remaking over and over and over again, (we get it, his parents were shot and he has a thing for bats, jeebus...), but IMnsHO, it really depends how well its done, and ideally they complete the whole story (i.e., not just the origin story) before "going again".

@Passion-Precision Project It did not kill off the "entire universe", but it did go through a massive cataclysm. You are basically saying that the world of Middle Earth is killed off simply because Mordor invaded and destroyed a bunch of stuff. Its that large scale conflict, the causality, which drives the importance of the heroes themselves. You are bothered because Willow has to take on an alias? A new identity? There is a reason for it and its fine. He is still "Willow". You would be better off arguing for a pre-cataclysm prequel, which, coincidentally, Lucas also had written about in some form or another.
Passion-Precision Project
@DeusWulf Those 'sequel' novels killed off the entire universe of the Willow film in chapter one. I'm so glad those books are being ignored. They didn't even call Willow by his name.

Willow was one of those movies I watched every day for months as a kid, and at least once a year since then. It's wonderful and timeless. If they screw this up with the woke propaganda Disney has been injecting into everything, I condemn the people that made this to a deserving spot in hell. Unfortunately, there are already indications in the trailer that they're repeating the process of destroying all of our beloved stories. Here's the step by step process: Step 1: Buy beloved IP with a strong hero(s), established lore, and good writing and storytelling. Step 2: Make new movies or TV shows and insert unnecessary woke crap into it, which almost always destroys the established lore and characters, completely diverges from what made the original IP great, and has really bad writing and storytelling. Step 3: Examples of the most common woke crap: Insert a woman, non-white, or LGBTQ "hero(s)" that's better than the original hero(s) at everything (bonus woke points for multiple intersectionality). The original hero(s) are almost always sidelined in their own movie or TV show for the new woke hero(s). If the original IP was mostly white people, insert as much diversity into it as possible. The remaining white and male characters are almost always made to be ridiculously dumb or evil, to prop up the poorly written new diversity characters. Make the new "hero(s)" not go through the classic hero's journey of failing, bettering themselves, and overcoming, but instead are already perfect and can do no wrong, and the only character development they go through is realize how awesome they've always been. This makes the new "hero(s)" completely unrelatable to anyone except the most diehard of NPCs who consume product and get excited for next product. The new "hero(s)" usually also has incredibly questionable morals or decision making, but since they're a diversity character they can do no wrong and get praised no matter what (like WandaVision). Step 4: The new movie or TV show fails and/or has huge fan backlash. The studio, director, producers, actors, and/or NPC consumer sycophants will call all critics of their product racist, misogynist, or some other ad hominem. This can happen before it releases (like the Amazon LotR show) or after it releases (like the Disney+ Kenobi show). Step 5: The IP is destroyed. The studio must now buy another beloved IP and destroy it too. Step 6: Repeat until all beloved IPs are destroyed. Examples: J.J. Abrams Star Trek, Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek Picard, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Star Wars, the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the Kenobi TV show, the Boba Fett TV show, Doctor Who, Wheel of Time, Predator, Terminator, Halo, all modern Disney Marvel, Ant Man 2, Hawkeye, Loki, Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange 2, the new Thor movie, and so on.

I love the original movie. The fantasy films of the 80s and 90s had some indescribable atmosphere of a fairy tale and an adventure blockbuster. I really hope the series continues this mood.

I love the difference in how the title character is presented in this trailer compared to the original movie. He's gone from being the unlikely hero you want to see succeed to the legend you want to follow into hell itself.

Willow was a milestone in movie fantasy, epic scope, likeable characters, memorable villains, goody asides, it had everything. Too bad that we probably won't have Mad Martigan, but maybe something similar? We need a hero-scoundrel-swordsman-out of his depth but brave character.

@Phil I get what you're saying. But after being burned so many times can you really blame people for being highly skeptical? Nothing in this trailer is very reassuring because almost all of it is nostalgia bait, which Disney is good at. But as someone who loved Willow as a kid, you're still going to have to do a lot more than just bring back most of the old characters and I fail to believe that Disney can pull that off. As for the political angle, "social justice" is an incredibly oppressive ideology as it's nothing more than a vital element of communism. Just look at what happens to people who speak out against mass migration in many countries. In the UK, you can literally be arrested for it. Yeah, I'd call that tyranny. Or look at all this trans nonsense where governments are forcing their citizens to use other people's "preferred pronouns". In Canada you can literally be fined or go to prison for "misgendering" someone. How is compelled speech not the very definition of tyranny? I could go on and on but yes, all of this "woke" nonsense is indeed inherently authoritarian because of its basis in Communism and the fact that all of it is designed to encourage state intervention into everyday life.

@Phil I agree completely and that's been my entire point. However, what we seem to disagree on is the difference between an opinion and a fact. If i say that the sequel trilogy is poorly written and that the plot is hot garbage, that's a fact that can be backed up by mountains of evidence. If you say you still like the films regardless of those problems, that's an opinion. So you can enjoy them all you want and I can't take that away from you. But don't try to tell anyone that they're good when it comes to objective criteria because by any measure or standard, they aren't. Even Ed Wood films are typically better written with more compelling and believable characters. In any case, my entire point in responding to the original comment is that Disney likely lacks the talent to make a well written film these days because their priorities are broken. They care more about peddling certain political narratives rather than just making a well written and entertaining film. Just you wait. They'll probably make the princess a lesbian, the new heroes will all be minorities and they'll have to fight against evil white male oppression or some garbage like that. My god man, just look at what they did to Mulan!
Eddie Johnson
Eddie Johnson 19 gün önce
@Phil Because the original trilogy is overall fantastic. Yes, there are a few issues as the films are not perfect. The silly weakness of the Death Star was such a big issue that they literally made an entire film to explain why that weakness existed. But by and large the writing, plot and characters are all excellent. Objective plot holes or character inconsistencies are the exception rather than the rule with the originals. The sequels however are completely broken on every level. That's the difference. It has nothing to do with "mob mentality" and everything to do with having objective standards. It's the same with GoT. Up through season 4 the series was extraordinarily well written on almost every level with very few issues. Seasons 5&6 weren't horrible, but more and more issues were beginning to become apparent. And by the time we arrived at season 8 it was objectively terrible on almost every level. The plot made no sense. Character motivations made no sense. Certain actions completely contradicted the established nature of the environment and the politics of the world. Again, you can find hundreds of videos just here on youtube explaining in great detail why it was objectively bad. That isn't fans being nitpicky or suffering from a "mob mentality". It's based on the fact that GoT went to crap and many people are legitimately upset about it.
Eddie Johnson
Eddie Johnson 20 gün önce
@Phil Yep, and all of those plotholes are a problem. But the sequel trilogy doesn't just have a plot hole here or there. The entire script may as well be one giant plothole. You can look up many analyses here on youtube where people pick apart all the problems with the films and they number in the hundreds. Some issues are small but many are so large that any one of them on their own could seriously undermine the franchise. As for things like sound effects in space, that's not a plothole at all but a concession that directors make so that action sequences are more entertaining. It's not a mistake at all and is quite intentional which is why I can't think of a single film with a space action sequence where space is actually silent because everyone knows it would be boring. As for midichlorians, I never understood why people hated that explanation so much, even if it was unnecessary because it is perfectly consistent with what we know of the force being hereditary. Luke was strong in the force for example specifically because his father was, and by extension it is also implied that Leia is strong as well. So no, midichlorians are actually completely logically consistent, but again, the explanation didn't need to exist because it's more fun if the force is based on "magic" rather than science. In any case, despite a few issues here and there with the original trilogy for example, it is for the most part logically consistent with well written characters and few plot holes. The sequel trilogy is a travesty through and through and if you like it then you really must watch the final season of Game of Thrones while you're at it. You'll absolutely love it!

Love the trailer. There is a blink & you'll miss it moment in the trailer at 1:01 that strongly indicates that there is more to the relationship between Kit & Jade than mere friendship as the two are standing close together, looking at each other as if they are about to kiss. So, in addition to Dove the maid falling in love with the prince, you have the Princess falling in love with the knight in training. And I think that's great as we may be getting two love stories in this series, instead of one. As long as they handle the relationship suitably & with grace & respect, I'm all for it. Thoughts anyone?
