We bought the Walmart Overpowered DTW3 gaming PC to tear it down and review it. Unfortunately, Walmart shipped us about half the computer we paid for.

Article: www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews...

We're answering the question of "is the Walmart gaming PC worth it?" with this video, but also, the answer is "no." Especially because they sold us a different PC than the one we got, but maybe that's just a logistical thing. Regardless, the internal components deserve analysis and discussion, as does the build quality and quality of assembly. The Walmart DTW3, DTW2, and DTW1 machines were already clearly overpriced, even for a system integrator, but it gets worse the more we dig into it. This is the kind of machine that a parent buys for their kid to play Fortnite, and Walmart still manages to screw it up.

And if this pushes you to build your own system instead, we're here to help. Try starting with our Best CPUs of 2018 guide: • Awards: Best CPUs...

Guarantee you that that never happened. Just because he got an (under)powered PC does not mean that the inverse of that transaction automatically happens. That's a fallacy to think that automatically happens. It's much more likely that Walmart sees that they have an extra Overpowered PC in their stock and are short an Underpowered one. Because they have plenty of stock of both of the PCs, they don't have just the two PC's lol. They would have to fuck up that bad twice instead of just once in order for Steve to get fucked, and then some kid to accidentally get the Overpowered PC. This is much more unlikely than just both Steven and the kid getting an Underpowered PC and Walmart sitting on an extra Overpowered in their inventory. And that's all assuming this wasn't intentional. It really could have been an intentional scam, it's happened before. Larger companies aren't more trustworthy simply because they are larger companies. Look at Newegg. They've been propagating a scam for a while now by selling their broken RMA products back to people and hoping that they don't get them back, GN has covered that.

Leggo My Ego 5 aylar önce
Not really, Dell puts higher quality components in their computers than this walmart computer. Dell's biggest issue is that they insist on using the same damn case they've been using forever even though space and heat dissipation requirements have gone up a lot. So you end up with things like the Alienware towers that have decent components that get throttled due to heat.

@Lonewolf 1970 Somebody's parents who thought "oh my child said they'd like to start gaming" and they buy it because they have absolutely no idea. You act like it's no big deal, but we're not the people getting scammed. Somebody's grandparents, parents, single parents who saved up to get something they thought would be great for Christmas/birthday, etc. Shit like this will totally put people off of the entire PC gaming industry because they buy a "high end" rig and got fleeced and have no idea, so they assume PC gaming isn't better than consoles.

It's almost kind of sad how they're cheaping out on everything, even with that huge markup. I really hope shipping the wrong PC was a mistake because it would make sense as a scam, considering 99% of customers who buy a Walmart PC probably don't know a lot about it, maybe it's their first gaming PC or even PC in general. I think it's most likely a mistake though. That scam would be a really scummy and absolutely disgusting move.

@christian chimienti well these kids forget back in the day ketchup and mustard were standard on EVERY PSU. i built computers as far back as 1997 and and the idea of cables being any other color was just un heard of , the point to ketchup and mustard is to color code which wire is the 12v , the 5 v or the 3 v as well as their various grounds and positive and negative charge wires. and news flash eve modern sleeve cables still use the same color coding if you remove the sleeve. quite a few companies particularly Seasonic (the best rated PSU company in the industry) are still producing a lot of OEM PSUs with ketchup and mustard cables) . the idea that seeing ":ketchup and mustard" means cheap is just new age retardation. in other words , a ferrari is still a ferrari even if you strip it down to the frame and engine only .. and a turd is still a turd even if you paint it pretty colors. having sleeved cables doesn't make the PSU any better at it's job. what matters most is who is manufacturing the SPU and where are they sourcing things like capictors. seasonic for example builds PSUs for themselves , corsair and EVGA (and a few other companies) . and they source many components from japan. and other companies might source components from some where else with lower grade build. that said some lower end Corsair and and EVGA PSUs are not built by Seasonic , yet they still have cable sleeving.

These have to be more wide spread issues, because you TRvidrs seem to pretty consistently run into issues like this when ordering these things. And like you said, they probably ship a lot of the wrong systems to people that never notice the mistake, so Walmart gets away with it. I find it suspicious that whenever this sort of thing happens the buyer always gets a product shipped to them that is a lesser item than they ordered. They never seem to receive something that is an upgrade over the item they ordered.

I sorta kinda liked how those looked. I think they'd really look "fancy" to most people. I disagree on dust filters for non-enthusiasts because they require regular cleaning. What will happen is they will plug up and everything will cook. I've gone back and forth on dust filters. I like how clean it keeps the inside, but, in my experience, you still get that "fine" dust everywhere which is he dust that is harder to remove.

Seaney shell Believe it or not, what you said I hear it a lot from post-graduates and non-Mac users a lot, and rightly so. I was purely windows developer for many years until I were given a Mac (new job) and I hated it at first but eventually grew to love it. Sure, you can do everything on a windows laptop, but it’s just not the same. If you ever need to use the command line on a daily basis you’ll understand the sheer pain of using a windows one. For development I’d not trade my Mac for any other OS, even if it’s has better spec. I value efficiency, performance and ease of use over anything. If you want further clarification you can look at the statistical report from stackoverflow on why devs love macs, or visit any tech conference and you’ll see 90% of the crowd have a mac.

Having dealt with Walmart online ordering, it’s probably a logistical error. I tried ordering a new monitor that was on sale and tried doing same day pick up. I finally received an email that it was actually out of stock, but they were getting more, and I should be able to pick up my monitor after 6pm on Christmas Eve. Their homepage said they were closing at 5pm on Christmas Eve. I just ordered off of Amazon.

Having Worked at a Walmart I would say it was an honest mistake, I assume that the person who built the computer worked at the store and it was most likely the assembler in the back. The location I worked out in high school we only had one assembler, and he was a 70-year-old retired handyman. He could build a child’s bike in 10 minutes because bikes and flatpack furniture was there bread and butter, knowing Walmart I would bet they just dumped the computer on and said hey Bill this, so he didn’t know the differences and things like the video cards video cards

20:05 agreed. I built my own rigs for over a decade. My last 2 PCs though I bought through NZXT's BLD mainly for the fact I can finance it allowing me to get a top end system without having to shell out the $3200 upfront. Granted I would immediately reformat the HDD and put a fresh unbloatwared version of Windows on it and move everything over to my H500P Mesh case.

When I was a naive 10 year old I wanted a gaming pc and a mac caught my eye with an i7 and 16Gb of Ram, no gpu. $1000. I think enthusiasts and gamers need to realise how much they have learned over time and understand that people who don't know PCs will just judge the PC based on the price. Stay humble folks. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

@Josean rodriguez what are you even rambling about? Steve clearly said it could be a mistake. That's not the point. Steve also clearly said this computer is not worth $1400 either. I don't know what you're angry about. If you're happy buying overpriced pcs when you could've gotten better systems for cheaper just because the computer you got also happens to run the games you play just fine doesn't make this piece of shit from Walmart a good pc.

The hot glue on the USB 3.0 header is not to hold the cable in the connector - it's likely to prevent the plastic shroud of the header from getting pulled off the pins when you unplug the connector. It happened to me several times...

I know this video is older now but I had some free time so I decided to watch it while doing some paperwork. The bothers me the most about companies like this is that they're not ripping off me they're ripping off grandma or a well-intentioned mom or dad that's computer illiterate most likely for a school-age child that also likes gaming, when I picture grandma or Grandpa saving up their social security money to buy something like this it infuriates me. Walmart's well-known to take advantage of people, always seem like the bigger they got the more faceless and evil they became.

That is why you should always build your own. Really, it's not that hard. There are hundreds of DIY websites to guide you every step of the way. Once you build a desktop, future upgrades are MUCH easier and cheaper. (Forget laptops, you can never upgrade them). I built my 1st one some 15 years ago, and have gone through two cpu/motherboard upgrades. The old parts still work just fine, and I could resurrect them as a 2nd desktop should I ever want/need to. I did have to buy a new power supply the last upgrade as the 1080ti GTX cards are power hungry, but of course I still use the hard disk drive, dvd, case, monitor, fans, keyboard, mouse, etc. However, you might have to buy a new copy of Windows as it can be married to the motherboard, depending on what version you have. I had the upgraded Win10 version from Window 7, so I had to buy it again for $100 for the new AsRock 370 Extreme4.

I feel bad for anyone who had a bad experience with these PCs but I got the DTW 2 ( 1080 non TI) for $899 after these reviews went up, literally a thousand dollars off. I'm happy to say that my overpowered PC is still running amazing, I've been playing tons of Tarkov at over 60fps at High settings. My temps even stay around 50 ish degrees and I didn't use spacers on the front glass like BitWit did. Hope anyone who reads this has a great day!

That happened to me before I knew about computers, got a walmart gaming laptop that was supposed to have an ssd, sold it a few yrs later on offerup, and the buyer was pretty knowledgeable, he said someone removed the ssd, and it only had the hard drive, checked my email from walmart, and I definately paid for an SSD, and I wouldn't know the first thing about taking one out haha, so I got scammed from them too. Also walmart ships using Ontrac, at least back then, which sucks balls.

I work in a pc service shop and the hot glue is there because usb3 connectors have a tendency to pull out the plastic shield of the pins on those gigabyte and some asus boards, especially if you're working with low end cases(low end cables). I mean, I don't do it, but it was kinda obvious to me why they did it.

Selling to people who don't do the basic homework and won't know they're being ripped off is also a part of that plan. Reason # 23 why it is always better to build your own. Not just Wal-Mart but so does HP cut every corner they can. Bought a desktop from HP that had an Intel mobo refitted to an AMD CPU it was like ...hey we've got all these extra mobo's and these AMD CPU's ... the holes for the heat sink were square in lay-out, rather than the typical rectangular, woefully weak PSU's, the list goes on. Good video on showing what you can and do get stuck with. 👍

Walmart has long been known to source products by the lowest bidder. Even if (perhaps especially if) it is a name brand item. If you see a product that costs less at walmart but looks the same, check the product number. Chances are it may have the same (or nearly the same) exterior but it will have 'bargain bin' internals. Which is one reason why products bought at Walmart often mysteriously die sooner than others.

Wal-Mart made a mistake on an order of two laptops I bought a while back, but it was in my favor. I order 2 of the exact same laptop. Nothing special but one of them had a touch screen that I did not pay for. Mistakes in my favor don't really ever happen, but this one was a good one. I don't remember any other differences.

@Jukebox666 @jubox666 2700x is $329. But hey I am sure you were aware of that little fact. But you probably think your little 2400G competes with a 1080ti and 2700X because it has a Vega chipset... Oh wait not even the Vega 64 competes against a 1080 ti let alone your vega 11 chip set.... But hey what do I know, you are building a superior computer to the one they are selling by using lower performance hardware.... Totally Legit claims. BTW I prefer AMD over Nvidia or Intel, but facts are facts. Used hardware... Because we all know used hardware has the same life expectancy as new hardware and that the seller is ALWAYS honest about what has happened with it...

Moogle Midgar Most of them are oblivious and would not even register the fact. As was expressed in the video, the average shmuck does not know how to check those little things. In a couple of years when they start thinking of upgrading they would take it to Best Buy and tell them that they need to upgrade their system and likely be sold another 16 gigs of ram and a GTX 3050 as an upgrade to the 1080ti. ;) Harsh reality, when it comes to tech never assume the other person knows anything about the hardware.

I have purchased a Cyberpower PC through Walmart back in November 2013. I did save on shipping as I picked up the system at a local Walmart store. However, I lost 2 years of labor warranty as buying through walmart only got me 1 year warranty (parts/labor). Cyberpower normally gives a 1 year parts and 3 years labor warranty. Keep that in mind.
