The anime’s greatest accomplishment is driving me to bond over how shitty it is with people who then convinced me to make my way over to the NOT offensively bad novels. Funnily enough, revisiting the anime adaptation with knowledge of the source material makes it so much more frustrating that it sucks because most of the bad things about it would be easily avoided by just being faithful. And thus I join the people that convince miffed anime watchers to read the novels, and the cycle continues.

he can literally make anything happen through a combination of social engineering and insane planning / intellect. the odds are always so insanely stacked against him but he always finds a way to come out unscathed while meeting certain conditions that increase the difficulty. it seems impossible but he finds a way and thats kind of inspiring.
DivideByZero Aylar önce
I think the idea is that Ayanokoji is just so on a different level compared to everyone around him that he doesn't fall for anything and is 5 steps ahead of everyone is something people aspire to be. Meanwhile people don't include the whole thing where he's pretty much a slave to how his father raised him and the only act of rebellion he can muster is to try to be a normal kid at highschool until his father takes him back and uses Ayanokoiji as a tool to fulfill his own dreams.

I also wanted to mention how funny it is seeing everyone treat Ayanokouji as a normal, cool guy, when he has this dead fish affect, and cold, disinterested eyes. He's not even really faking having feelings particularly well! He does the things he needs to do, but anyone who can read more subtle cues IRL would have alarm bells going off for someone like him. Even the other cool calculating schemers in the show have bursts of emotion, or at least passing expressions. It just strains credulity for me that he doesn't twig off at least a few of the more empathic girls.

SomeGuyy194 _ Aylar önce
In the light novel I always saw it as people will impart what they want to think he’s feeling, like how people will interpret a bland painting in any way they want depending on how they feel. But in the light novel he has more emotions so it’s easier for people to do that
galaxy 3 aylar önce
Good to mention the dead fish eyes are anime effect. In real life it would look less weird.
Frost 3 aylar önce
@DoNBiChes he does have some facial expression just not enough to be able to definitively say what he’s thinking or feeling. he’s also an attractive guy so him having that emotionless look all the time wouldnt come off as creepy
6638t 8tw
6638t 8tw 3 aylar önce
that's something in the manga/LN that is actually addressed. he actually puts effort into faking being ''a normal emotional human being'' and the times he ''dies inside'' people actually notice and comment about it. overall in all senses this anime did the series dirty. most of the problems addressed in the videos are fixed in the LN

Classroom of the Elite was a pivotal moment in my anime watching life. It was the very first show I realised that it was alright to drop an anime even if you've already sunk about 10 episodes into it. If it's not doing it for you and feels like a chore to even watch the next episode then it is perfectly fine to just stop. You don't need to finish everything, your time is precious and you don't have to force yourself to like what you are watching. So for that thank you Classroom of the Elite.

Well, the point is that Ayanokoiji is a bad person and hates himself, but the parts of himself he hates are also the parts that make him a genius. The core difference between Kushida and Ayanokoiji is that Ayanokoiji is smart and Kushida is a dumbass who thinks she's smart. Which is similar to the difference between Kushida and Sakayanagi, who is also a character people teally like and is also manipulative and hurts people like Ayanokoiji. People want to be smart like Ayanokoiji. That's the thing about him people actually like.

@Joe Girard Honestly even though I watched all of Elfen Lied as a kid I remember feeling really "eh" about it and not understanding why my friends liked it. Which was only reinforced when I tried again many years later wondering if young me just couldn't understand the concepts it was pushing. But I think even though I didn't know how to put it in words as a kid I still recognized that it was 100% relying on its surprise violence and...other things factor, just make everything as fucked up as possible and someone will think it's saying something deep. It's like someone saw Neon Genesis Evangelion and missed all the subtlety, social commentary and just picked up on the shock and horror elements and thought "I can do that!" ...to their credit it worked but I think only because we didn't have much else to choose from at the time in the West.

you pointed something out that I hated about the series. For a school that's about being the "best" and "preparing people for society" there's a serious lack of evidence or unused evidence that wouldn't slide at a remedial school run by corrupt toddlers.

That's mentioned in the anime though. It's a very shitty excuse, but at least they are self-aware i guess? From my memory Horikita said something about how the school never actually intended to have this ''top-tier education'' and that the exams where shit ez, but that the real hardship of the school are the special exams like the island one.

Class C's incompetence as villains is really...funny because all the issues you pointed out about how flimsy their schemes are end up being explained away with Ayanokouji's beatdown as: they are utterly no match for Ayanokouji, incapable of outwitting him because they ARE just THAT incompetent. Basically, the plot justified itself through its own poor writing, like a serpent devouring its own tail

The light novel fixes a lot of the issues, but not all of them. The whole sports festival arc with Class C feels just as much bullshit in the novel as it does in the anime. The fact class C can get away with doing so much shit but some how if D does even a little bit of fighting back they would get in trouble is absurd, they definitly take this way too far. Like I understand the entire point is that class C is unified and will lie to cover for each other and class D isn't unified and can't cover for each other nearly as well, but it still is absurd beyond belief. It gets to the point where it feels like class C could just go make something up completely to get everyone else expelled instead of bothering to poison, beat up, and otherwise directly interact with the other classes.

As a Light novel reader of the series, it was sad to see how badly they butchered the anime, a lot of source material was cut and a whole novel was cut, the anime is fine as a stand alone series but compared to the LN, its like apples and oranges. I think this show is a classic example of why anime adaptations don’t need to be one to one
DivideByZero Aylar önce
@Wastingmylifeaway It's weird, in the books at first he acts like a completely normal kid and has normal reactions and then slowly becomes more and more deadpan for some reason and the book kinda acts like that's how he was the whole time, the anime just accepts the later deadpan as what was originally intended.
Wastingmylifeaway Aylar önce
@jacob norris I don't think s1 was a terrible adaptation, but the presentation kind of ends up drawing those "I'm very very smart, smarter than everyone else, I'm 12" people. Ayanokoji in the light novels comes off as very normal up until the point where he reveals himself. His inner dialogue comes off as your standard romcom protag, which also puts MB's criticisms in a different light. Especially when it comes to the early "just as planned" moments, which in context just appear like kids at the same intellectual level trying to one up each other. Also, the very annoying issue of his dead fish eyes in the anime give him away as neurodivergent, when that was not an issue in the LN. As far as events happening, S1 was fairly unproblematic in that regard. However the lack of his inner monologue really hindered the final product.
jacob norris
jacob norris Aylar önce
@Wastingmylifeaway I got a little ahead of myself there, I never watched season 2 so I don't have the full picture. It's season 1 in specific that I think people are too quick to call a terrible adaptation.
Wastingmylifeaway Aylar önce
@jacob norris if you honestly believe that, I actually doubt you've read the LN. They are VASTLY superior. Of course they suffer from general light novel issues, such as, LN authors can't write dialogue for shit. However, everything else is pretty dang good. Like if you can honestly say they didn't butcher the anime when they skipped a literal ENTIRE VOLUME that was MANDATORY to understanding the entire plot of S2, you haven't read the novels.
James DiStefano
James DiStefano 3 aylar önce
Allow me to explain as a standard fan of the series. I imagine my story is a common one. I watched season one and was somewhat intrigued, but saw everyone complaining about how they butchered the source material. I then read the light novels and holy shit were they amazing. I at this point only watch the anime out of curiosity and to see my favorite moments animated/voiced no matter how butchered

As a female 26yr old I feel like I may not be the target audience for this show, or at least the main demographic it appeals to, but I actually really enjoy it for reasons that I haven't actually seen anyone saying. The protagonist doesn't really interest me, what interests me is the effect he has on other people. Out of the other characters I feel like Kei might be the one I identify with most, or at least did as a teenager. Throughout season 2 and primarily the last few episodes it was genuinely chilling to see how she was manipulated by someone using her trauma against her. Someone who wasn't even pretending to be a nice guy, who fed her tiny crumbs of compassion. How in her state she placed such a huge value on those and how she thinks that she's had a breakthrough when she's actually falling into an abusive relationship in a way that I have seen people with awful self-esteem do irl far too many times. How Kiyotaka's edgy boy I feel no empathy monologues are juxtaposed with the emotions the swelling music and wholesome visuals (the Christmas date scenes in particular) tease from the viewer as we are pre-conditioned to associate them with boy-meets-girl romances, creating a truly uncomfortable viewing experience. Granted I haven't read the LNs and seem to have a different perception of events to most other people I've seen in the comments sections, so I do feel like I might be experiencing a different story to what's actually being told. Nonetheless I'm enjoying the psychological distress of wanting to shout through the screen at Kei telling her to get away from him whilst she is already justifying his behaviour to her.
DivideByZero Aylar önce
@Culius Jeasar You're right that it doesn't justify it. The point is that Ayanokoiji is a terrible person and he hates himself and his father for making him that kind of person. Ultimately it's a balance of how he's manipulative and values people only for what they can do to help him, but he also happens to be in a situation where the best course of action he sees is creating situations so that the people around him can overcome themselves and grow as people in order to be more useful to him. Even Karuizawa ends up a stronger person because of the terrible things he has done. And this is what makes me keep reading the books, it's very interesting the way the author balances this act of a bad person who does manipulative things that have a very positive effect on the people around him purely for his own benefit. And he himself being acutely aware of how bad the things he is doing are and hating himself for it, but he has to do it anyway both because it's the only way he knows how to live and also because he's in a situation where he is forced to act that way in order to have just a taste of a normal life before being dragged back under the control of his father.

If show then I would say the very fundamental of the story has been changed in the anime The character writing, depth, detailing, development, mind games, strategies, philosophy, character dynamic, tone, complexity, character psychology, set up, impact, steaks, intensity etc are heavily changed to fit aa simple pop corn power fantasy vibe MC ayanokoji is a perfect example as if you start reading you will notice intently that how anime and LN ayanokoji are completely different

But when I did it was amazing. There’s a reason why it’s one of the highest LN on MAL. Keep in mind that I know not everyone would love it, but I highly recommend it.

You have pointed out some very good flaw's Although some of them were a product of over-exaggeration (in the sports fest) and the rushing/skipping of important plot info(the shiparc especially but we can include the rest of the anime in it ) The entire school was meant to be a hiding spot for Ayano so the booby sweater scene made sense that he did not want to attract attention (but why does he draw the same attention in the race then? ....... hmmm even I don't know the answer to that tbh ) the rooftop scene had a lot more to it becz the the student council prez and a faculty was standing downstairs then...... wait THE ENTIRE YEAR ONE ENDED. The novel focused a lot more on interpersonal relations between the cast btw my personal favorite character was Horikta Manabu (Not Suzune. In fact Suzune and Kushida had pretty bad characters in the novel too [Horikta was fine in the beginning and better after the redemption arc after she was properly designated as a side character. anything in the middle was an absolute nightmare tbh]) My final word on this is --Do i recommend you to read the novel ? My Answer-- If you felt tempted to watch the 2nd season after the first one then maybe this is your type. Personally I am too deep into this now too stop now.

It's such a shame to see how misunderstood this Light Novel was The anime was doomed to fail since the 1st season and i completely agree that it is utter garbage, it completely made parts of the series purposely cringy and edgy The novels portray Ayanokoji in a different maner, he has emotions, he seeks freedom and is interested in knowing more about the normal life that he never experienced Again, anime had parts of the plot had been cut down completely, thus making the majority of the plot, including things from small interactions to major twists completely senseless For example, the LN explained very well Karuizawa's intentions or Horikita Manabu's reasonings for indirectly asking her sister the join the StuCo in Episodes 11 and 13 respectively In the Novel those respective scenes are given meaning by past interactions and explanations that never existed in the Anime Once again, strategies and implications have been cut off, thus making the plot shitier Moving on, as COTE isn't even completely about that, but about a abnormal boy learning to he human through an abnormal school I was about to write like a 6K word comment about this, but i realised its pointless anyway, all COTE children stans talk about Sociopath solos ahaha, while ignoring what truly makes Classroom of the Elite one of Japan's best modern Light Novels Hating on the anime because of its quality is fine, hating the fanbase because of stupidity is also fine, hating the light novel before reading it and judging it truly, ignoring those 2 bad elements about the media, is something i highly disagree with I know I sound like a generic "read the LN" fanboy, but it's just the truth 😂

I actually rather liked Kushida's backstory. There was no sad revelations or attempts to get you to sympathize with her (which is a rare commodity nowadays), it just showed how dangerous and kinda unhinged she is. It even works as a good explanation for why she's such a crap villain. She tore her class apart a year ago, it makes sense she thinks she's the goat, but it's evident by how she couldn't get attention any other way than being a pleasant doormat that she's not actually that skilled at most things. This isn't to say I disagree with your take on this show, or even that scene as a whole (her telling them was pretty contrived), just sharing something I liked about the show.
kyle cyrus
kyle cyrus Aylar önce
@Dell12 16 really? In respect to her hiding it, do note that her goal is simply to be loved and trusted by the class, her tearing the class apart is just a threat and not her goal. Just being known as someone who can't keep a secret would hamper her goal, much less the knowledge that she showed genuine malice. As for her being dangerous, as far as I know even the closest people tend to have things about each other they don't like. People learn what to not say to keep a friendship as they grow up, but humans are social, and all it takes is someone being absent for a day for their friends to shit talk them a little. Kushida collects all this info, she weaves herself seamlessly into every group while seeming innocent, and if she airs that all out people will naturally feel betrayed by those close to them and turn on each other. Kushida is dangerous not because of intelligence or strength, but because of how well she can hide her malice, and her lack of attachment to thise she spends time with. The ultimate ability of a spy is not the ability to get out of sticky situations, but rather the ability to make no one even think they're a spy in the first place. Well, that's how I saw it anyway. She's overestimating herself though, the moment she was outed she already lost this confrontation.
Dell12 16

I thought that being the whole big deal she was trying to keep secret was dumb as hell, it made no sense that she managed to "tear" apart the class whatever the hell that even means, she's not dangerous at all

I was worried this would be a video about the light novels being horrible, not the anime. Glad this was not the case. After reading the novels, I can say that they were okay and in some parts great (I can’t say the same for the anime adaptation). Cutting Ayanokojis inner dialogue in the anime made his actions seem random as we never understood why he was doing things or how he knew what was going on.
Andrew Sharpe
Andrew Sharpe 2 aylar önce
My mistake with COTE was thinking it was going to be a well-written meditation on inequality and hierarchy given Ayanokoji's opening monologue. (Then I realized at the end of season one that Ayanokoji had no social/political message to give, he simply meant everyone was his plaything.) I actually did enjoy the school's points system and game theory-style manipulation games. And maybe the source material is as good as I want it to be, but the anime is poorly written, drawn, and animated. After one season it felt like nothing had happened/ the pacing seemed very slow. But I was willing to give it a second chance in the next season..... 25:29 Until I got to the episode before this part. Dropped season 2 halfway through cos I was angry at how stupid Horikita was being. Ayanokoji was giving her all the info about Kushida and Chad's schemes but she did nothing with that info?! Don't get me wrong, I liked Horikita in season one, but I had the mistaken impression she was the main girl, she was the love interest, AND (importantly) that she was smart. Now you're telling me they had a "I recorded you recording me" competition to solve the issue? So dumb. I really find it hard to buy that that blonde chick is the main girl instead..... but I guess that's a product of how sideways the adaptation has been.

It’s certainly really sad that the whole world building, monologue, dialogue, side characters, classes in itself and exams got changed especially if u read the books and know that the strength of the story lies within those parameters. But It’s even more sad what they did to a great character like ayanokouji, a character that came of as your "typical badass edgy protagonist" has actually way more layers to him than u would’ve thought. It’s the same concept as eren Yeager from AOT, a standard protagonist u would find everywhere develops to one of the best in Anime. It’s really unfortunate that his character is contradicting himself so much in the anime, but one thing that’s even more unfortunate is for his character to be "unbelievable". Ayanokouji is in my opinion actually the most "believable" and genuine genius from what I have seen in "anime, manga. Light novel media" (death note, code geass, no game no life, kaguya sama, kaiji, zaregoto, monster etc) he gave me the most "wow, how didn’t I think of that" moments of them all. His plans are really deeply planted within the story and hints for every one of his moves are given ALSO THEY DONT JUST HAPPEN! It’s really frustrating to see things "just randomly HAPPEN“ The whole story is really lucky for the protagonist in the anime. Like how literally the most important plots just happen in front of his eyes randomly AND NO ONE! NO ONE EXCEPT FOR HIM SEEMS TO NOTICE IT OR BE THERE TO NOTICE. Classroom of the elite is one of those story’s you can’t really adapt into an anime, ayanokoujis narrating and monologue is way too important for the story to be left out, obviously the light novel isn’t perfect and has it’s flaws but it’s a shame to see a good story and characters get massacred like this. As a light novel reader the anime is a sweet extra where I can see some cool scenes animated but sadly it gives off a way too false image of the series.

This is like the perfect blend of anime that I hate, the type that you couldn't pay me to watch - A high school setting with characters that act like no teenager that has ever existed (Check) - Student led organizations that act like crime families, where being part of that group or class is their entire identity (Check) - An edgy cool guy protagonist that is apparently the smartest guy ever, but also doesn't care about anything because he's so cool (Check) - Mind games that take 10 minutes to explain because telling and not showing is way easier than coming up with clever solutions to problems (Check) - A large cast that is stretched so thin that we never get to see characters interact or form real bonds with each other since any screen time they have will exist solely to move the plot forward (Check) - A harem of girls that somehow all look 11 & 30 at the same time, all with stupid hair colors (Check) - A plot that doesn't demand such a serious tone, yet the characters will take the whole thing deadly seriously 100% of the time until there's a "funny" fanservice moment, which will be the only humor in the show (Check) - Top it off with an anime art style that somehow looks generic and ugly at the same time, with a candy colored palette that makes my eyes bleed (Check) ugh.

I really enjoyed the first season of CotE just because the MC was such a nice switch up from your usual anime MC. Then I read the LN and damn, it was _different_ in the best possible way. When season 2 was announced I was really hyped but when I watched it I enjoyed it a good chunk less than even the first season. Compared to the LN the characters lack all depth and nuance and so do the mind games. Every arc just felt super rushed and especially towards the end of season 2 Ayanokouji even made me cringe, and I _really_ tried my best not to, because of the little bit of internal monologue the anime does give him being terribly unnuanced and just making him feel like an edge lord. Back when the LNs for the arcs of season 2 were being translated, people complained about the official translation being inaccurate. At parts erasing some of the important sub-context in the MCs internal monologue, used to portray his character, just because of different wording. That should give you an idea of just how subtlety nuanced the writing in the LN is. In the end I can't even really blame the animators for the bad adaptation because such a story like CotE, in which the MC's thoughts on everyone and everything are most essential, providing the cornerstone to the actual events happening, seems almost impossible to adapt properly. Still, I had hoped for more.

as a big fan of the series, I was hoping a vid on it would come out on this channel. was not expecting a roast, but I'll still watch it with open eyes as soon as the goddamn internet starts working EDIT: yeah I agree the fanservice was pretty absurd, but season 2 gets a lot better with that. I haven't read the ln, but I think ayano's story is more learning empathy rather than seeking it out, which is why he still goes by white room rules. kei's entry to the story apparently happened just when she really became relevant to the story, but I do agree that she should have had the spotlight a lot earlier. However, seeing ayanokoji gradually warp hirotaka into becoming his pawn is one of the coolest things I found when rewatching the series. Class D being idiots is intentional, they're the defects after all. And the mind games are, in my opinion, really fun to watch. its more about how far can they see ahead and executing those steps rather than seeing them work on the fly. for example, ayano basically set up 4 plans in a single move by getting kei on his team. getting another tooI, protecting hirotaka from blackmail, getting kei to trust him, and controlling class c behind the scenes, effectivily giving him control over half the grade. I will agree that on the whole, there's only a few that are actually big-brained enough to be called "elite". on the whole tho, you bring up a lot of good points, and do think that s1 was the most flawed, with s2 being alot better.

It’s pretty clear in S2 they had to put a ton of work into backtracking the story beats since they overdid all the Horikta shit in S1 to simply sell the “sociopath school” LN. Regardless, I’ve always seen the point of Koji that he’s a chara you’re explicitly not supposed to model after. He’s a shitty dude that’s a product of a shitty world that results in some cool outcomes but is still fuckin shit. That reveal at the end of S1 I thought was cool because it pivots on the normal protag troupe. Like, how often to you get a protag that doesn’t care about anyone? He’s a genuine sociopath. A main character, that uses all the generic chara troupes to blend in, because he’s a sociopath with no regard to human emotions. Most of the time the only reason a character like this is written is in a murder mystery or a political thriller, never mind one that’s the protagonist of said story. That alone has kept me around and will continue to keep me personally regardless of how good/bad it is throughout

I'm not gonna lie, I really like COTE. It's the first anime ever to get me so interested in the story and setting that I started reading the source material. Still, I'm not going to defend it. Especially not the anime. Most of what Geoff said is completely spot on. At times you can barely call it an anime. It's more of a slideshow and somehow when there is animation it makes things worse. I skipped over a bunch of episodes in the middle because of how bad it was and only returned to check out how they did the finale. At least that was fairly decently done, which gives me some hope for season 3. The assumptions Geoff made about the anime doing a lot of things worse than the light novels are completely right. That doesn't mean the story is perfect or the most original thing ever, but it's a lot better all around in the novels. Other characters get more time to shine, Ayanokouji actually shows emotion and it's not just the Horikita show. The tests and narration work so much better too and have me trying to figure things out in advance while stuff is happening. It's actually tense at the right moments. There are a lot of immature moments (there is a literal dick comparison at one point)* and stereotypes even in the LN that I could do without, like the buff black dude that only ever speaks in short English sentences or that over time more and more girls seem to fall in love with the protagonist. But I can overlook those, as I'm enjoying the rest of the story. I do really wish the anime adaptation was better, but I suppose it's no Promised Neverland Season 2 situation. A lot of things Geoff critized were what hooked me on the premise initally. At least when I first watched COTE in 2019. I am glad that I started the light novels, but I can definitely see some more flaws now. Especially with the anime adaptation. As Geoff said in the end, for me it just hit the right spots and still does. Maybe it's because I haven't seen as much of this type of story as others have. It definitely sounds plausible, considering the type of things I enjoyed back then. I'm not too sure if I'd be as hooked as I was back then, if I watched it now. *I guess this is technically a spoiler, but (I did not make this up, this is how it happens in the LN) it is actually literally truly just a scene where the important male characters compare the size of their penises in a bathhouse. Everyone compares their dicks, the dudes get excited over the bigger guys' members until the black guy comes and reveals his ridiculously large one. Then our protagonist gets forced against his will to show his and it's larger than even the black dude's of course. After all it's important that our protagonist has the biggest member or they wouldn't be truly superior to everyone else and it's also important that we know this as a canon fact.

When I found out about this show getting a S2 I watched it to see what the fuss was about, and despite the fact that the show is VERY flawed and not nearly as smart as it thinks it is, I still really liked it. I like the art-style, I don't know enough about animation to notice when it looked off, I liked the characters (Even though they're extremely overdramatic) and I like Kiyotaka as a protagonist because he's so cartoonishly magically smart that it genuinely loops back to being enjoyable. The whole 'sinking into the background friend group' thing for Kiyotaka was also pretty sweet and I like both Sakura and Karuizawa because they're both sweethearts. I also thought Kushida's whole "I am a literal attention whore" bit pretty interesting, even if her obsession with Horikita was overdramatic and dumb, and Ryuuen's turn around at the end of S2 felt satisfying due to his whole bit of being fucking terrified of Ayanokoji because he just wasn't playing his game. All in all, this show is dumb, but there's enough 'so bad it's good' and genuinely good stuff that makes it a genuinely fun watch for me.

I was so confused about it begin 2017's 8th most watched anime cause when I watched it all I thought was that it was the most generic "edgy" anime within it's setting

funnily enough, as a LN reader, the sports festival arc had the most brilliant strategies used among all the stuff adapted into the anime so far i guess that goes to show how much they failed at the adaptation the conclusion of the sports festival arc was one that left me completely speechless in the LN that was simply a next level UNO reverse sad the anime couldn't do the same

@Sky King the writer always seems to leave important thing to the readers to assume, For example: instead for showing what chess pieces ayanakoji and arusi are moving during their chess match, it shows side characters praising them, “Wow! they are in different level” “They are too good” Etc etc which goes to show writer himself doesn’t know how to play chess, But ayanakoji fans think he is the best chess player beating even Lelocuh

One of the things that really impressed me when I read the light novel was the author's understanding of why certain people think the way they do from a psychiatric perspective. If you appreciate the psych aspects of Re:Zero, the LN gives off a similar impression.

As with a lots of LN adaptation a lot of internal monologue and narative description is lost in adaptation and while in something like Overlord it still leaves a pretty decent chunk for the world to see if just in action scenes alone its far more detrimental to a more psychological story such as classroom of the elite.

Yes. I really wanted to watch this when I was in my teens. And decided to watch the 1st season last year (I'm 22 at that time) and ohhhh boy, I was utterly disappointed and felt like I wasted my time because I hold onto the mere fact that maybe it will get better and have a big reveal at the end. It left me speechless and thinking I should've watched other animes.

I watch Classoom of the Elite primarily because the kind of anti-vilain (?) that Ayanokouji is, is very rare.

I watched exactly one episode of S1, took a screengrab of a blonde guy saying "I have no interest in contributing to society" for meme purposes, immediately forgot the context, and I still felt like I got way more out of the show than most people did. When I heard they were making more, my thoughts were in order: 1) "Oh." 2) "Huh..." and 3) "Why?" EDIT: Hey, so I just saw that Peter Grill got a sequel, so I just want to apologize to Classroom of the Elite, and retract this comment.

I've sat through and read almost every tome from the LN and I can guarantee that if it isn't the most mindblowing story of all time, it is still an enjoyable and worthwhile read nonetheless. Honestly I cant remember season 1 but season 2 was decent save from the subpar animation.

I watched the first season of Classroom of the Elite way back when, and it interested me enough to read the light novel. The next three chapters of the light novel instantly made me hate the show and regret the fact that I watched the first season. Not reading it is a great choice.

@Arshaan Javed That's objectively wrong. Most people who watch the anime give it high scores and they love it. Just check websites that rank anime like ''My Anime List'' or ''Anilist'' to see how many people like the show. This show is probably one of the most pretentious "Look how smart we are, look look!" shows I've ever seen. The constant piano riffs in season 1 and how every episode starts with some sorta philosophical quote had me cringing every time.

At least for me COTE reminded me of how tokyo ghoul was done I watched the anime and thought it was pretty average and then read the source material and realized that the anime just got butchered. The light novel is surprisingly very good and makes that anime look like a children's cartoon

..... That reward system was literally implemented manually at my elementary school. We had "check books" and we had to keep track of our "scholar bucks" ourselves, and we could "buy" things at the "market" on Fridays.... When I was out of class for my "gifted and talented" program. Friday is also when we got our "pay checks" so I never got to do it. Anyway this school is Exactly a modern American school, just not a high school XD

I just realized that one of those despicable characters has her last name identical to the first name of Kamisama Kiss' MC, Nanami Momozono. Quite ironic how the latter is the complete opposite (a generally nice person with occasional moments of anger or spunk) to the former (a toxic and smug POS who pretends to be nice). Admittedly, a bizarre excuse for a comment of mine, but whatever.
