Sorry for the wait! I finished this a month ago, but it had to sit in copyright jail for 30 days in order for the worldwide block to expire. Enjoy! If I trim it out with TRvid's editor, it'll re-do the copyright check, which would probably delay it another 30 days) My Patreon ➤ www.patreon.com/KeyanCarlile My Twitter ➤ twitter.com/keyancarlile My Instagram ➤ instagram.com/keyan_carlile_entertainment/ Subscribe ➤ trvid.com/show-UCVg0RaUinGyNhK_Nrx42MeA

Something that's always amused me is how Lab Rats seemed really squeamish about using the words "kill" and "die", but Mighty Med had no such problem. Also, side note: how could you not mention that Benny the medic is also Dopinder the cabbie from Deadpool?

@Mr XLR the first episode of mighty med may have aired in 2013 but shows take a lot of time to get to air. I assumed that production took about a year before it went to air, and the pitch development and pre production took another year, so the two characters likely originated around the same time as each other.
Mr XLR 2 aylar önce
@John McAuliffe from what I checked, Chavez barely predates Skylar storm by 2 years
John McAuliffe
John McAuliffe 2 aylar önce
@Mr XLR I think Skylar Storm predates Chavez Edit: actually they seem almost contemporaneous. Assuming the series was conceived of at least a year before production and the series didn't air until a year after the start of production, Storm would have been made mid to late 2011, around the same time Chavez made her debut (as a character in the Vengeance series by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta), though I don't know the odds of the writers both finding a brand new comic series and basing a character off that new series.
Mr XLR 2 aylar önce
I always thought the writers based her off of America Chavez. Power wise at least.
A Mighty, Vicious Olog's Friend
Something I'm surprised nobody else has realized is, Caduceo is clearly supposed to be this super legendary hero healer. The comic book geeks recognize his symbol instantly and even villains acknowledge his power enough to want to manipulate him into using it for their gain. But his only shown healing ability only has 5 uses, and only 2 of which were used on screen. Did he use the 3 first uses in such a dire situation that it made him a legend? Like did he rock up to a fight where The Great Defender, Tecton and The Crusher all had died and brought them back?
ZRC 17 gün önce
@Sof H They never said that he can only regenerate 12 times because there's a certain limit on the amount of energy he can expend. It was just the rules of his race. Then they gave him more. Then, he's from a different universe so nothing applies to them. AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH

@Faulty Videos Like I could see his powers being in the same Vein as Restoration magic in the Elder Scrolls series, he probably a one or two offensive abilities. But he’s mainly a supportive hero with a lot of healing and maybe buffing abilities
Faulty Videos
Faulty Videos 2 aylar önce
@Sof H we're shown outright that he can basically press pause on anyone on command. Perhaps his other powers, if any, are more supportive like that. Not especially helpful for winning a fight, but enough to defend yourself and others
Sof H
Sof H 2 aylar önce
I think he has more powers than just revival. He's known as 'the healer', which suggests more advanced medicinal ability - it's just this one power takes more energy than any other, so he can only do it a certain number of times. It could be that Horace has any number of powers we just haven't been told about Like the original series Dr Who lore - he can only regenerate 12 times, because it takes so much energy, but that doesn't stop him being able to ... use his mind-meld powers, for example.

I think the reason Lab Rats has less specific characters, is because that show is focused on one specific family. Its the Davenport's story. While Mighty Med is focused on a superhero hospital along with the main characters, so more characters are needed.
Curly Sue

@MysticDigital True. Although, that is the first time I think they call Tasha mom though. Plus they also find out they have another brother, and bond a lot more with their real dad (Douglas). So still a lot of family related stuff going on.

When Horace revives Skylar, I swear he says the name "Thanatos", who is basically Greek mythology's Grim Reaper, who appeared to humans to carry them off to the underworld when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. If Horace is actually saying something in Greek or another language, I'd hope he is actually calling out to Thanatos because that would be some crazy story building for one character in a Disney show.
Ítalo Lucena Vaz
Ítalo Lucena Vaz 12 gün önce
He does say that, his hero name ans his symbol are from greek mythology and the writers just searched about the greek god of death to make his conjuring, Thanatos is a very cool name too, there's a dinosaur wirh that name, and a moon from solar system I beleive
Ben Kenobi
Ben Kenobi 13 gün önce
I noticed that too! My theory is that hes praying to Thanatos. Of course, Thanatos doesn’t have the authority to do that, only his boss does. But still, that’s a neat reference.
Mentally Unstable
Mentally Unstable 17 gün önce
adding on to the hermes comment, hermes is actually the one who takes people to the underworld. thanatos is just the god of death. so his name is based on hermes’ staff and he basically does the opposite of escorting people to the afterlife which is pretty cool
CallMeFi 3 aylar önce
his superhero name is also Caduceo the name of staff of the greek god Hermes which is often (improperly, his staff and that of the actual greek god of medicine, Asclepius look incredibly similar - Hermes has two snakes where Aclepius has one - and have been essentially fused into one symbol for both medicine and Hermes) used as a symbol for medicine related stuff (hospitals, pharmacies, etc.)

Amongst these recaps and mixed theories, I’m definitely thinking something similar was being set up. The idea that Kaz and Oliver’s powers would only work when they were together, and that possibly leading them to inherit the dyad and catastrophe’s powers to eventually fight Bridget. Of course we got Elite Force instead.

This show was clearly made by people who love comic books and comic book movies. And it shows even in the smaller details. For example, 1:22:01 The assistant's name, "Bob", is a refrence to the Batman (1989) movie, where Joker's main henchman was also names Bob. He even got his own action figure, seriously
andrew garrett
andrew garrett Aylar önce
Elite Force as a whole should have been saved for when Mighty Med got to have a true ending that tied up all loose ends. I cannot begin to tell you how lost I was during the premiere of Elite Force when I found out Kaz and Oliver had powers, Oliver's mom was a super villain, and that Mighty Med had been destroyed and all the heroes were dead. It didn't help that I completely missed the series finale, but still. The whole thing sounded like the setup for a dystopian future storyline or movie. I would have honestly preferred that. Still, can you imagine if Disney had the balls to end a show on such a negative note, with the characters being surrounded by so much death and destruction just to provide a credible setup for a new show? They could have aired the Lab Rats finale again right before this dark Mighty Med finale to perfectly tie the two together. They could have made it so that Davenport was there to help the survivors at Mighty Med, which is what led to him pitching the idea of the Elite Force to Kaz, Oliver, and Skylar. As for how he was in the right place at the right time, they could have made it so that Davenport developed an obsession with learning as much as possible about superheroes and super villains after the Lab Rats vs. Mighty Med crossover, which led to him finding Mighty Med and keeping tabs on it. Elite Force is just another prime example of a story that was poorly executed due to executive meddling. Did we absolutely need this show to be brought into the world? Hell no. Did it deserve to be handled better and given a proper chance to do right by the two shows it was spawned from? Hell yeah.

@andrew garrett tbf, i only watched lab rats when it came out. mighty med, i only knew vaguely, and elite force i dont even know if i knew about. however, i think in the hands of who it was, it wouldve been bad anyway. im thinking of binging all three shows and seeing if theyre viable, but honestly i think the lore is cool. with better writing, elite force could be awesome. i think it wouldve been a great opportunity to finally close out the lore that they established in the mighty med finale. but they just made oliver really creepy. he had a childish crush on skylar, not whatever keyan showed in the elite force video, which was just... ugh. my idea is for elite force is to rewrite both mighty med and lab rats, remove the plot holes, and make their lores fit together with a bit more foresight (like the graham thing, in which he says superheroes and the supernatural dont exist). my idea for elite force is literally just... keep the setting relatively similar, and finally finish mighty meds story but with chase and bree. hopefully by that point theyre both more likeable in my version
andrew garrett
andrew garrett 4 gün önce
@Inuyasha TT How do you think Elite Force would have played out if Leo and Adam were the ones to team up with the Mighty Med crew? If the plot ultimately ended up being the same, then it still probably would have sucked. Still, you can't help but wonder.
andrew garrett
andrew garrett 4 gün önce
@kevin ong Yeah. If they never intended to give Mighty Med a final season to wrap everything up, then could have and should have picked up the story in Elite Force by having the Lab Rats help Kaz, Oliver, and Skylar track down Oliver's mom.

Once upon a time, Elite Force was intended to be the continuation of Mighty Med’s incomplete story while also taking advantage of the Lab Rats’ characters (who’s own stories were being concluded for good). Trying to take advantage of the popularity of the crossover. It of course ended up a train wreck.

I feel like the actors for lab rats and mighty med aren’t that different in skill at all, just that average acting will make a bad script stand out more, and average acting will also make a great script stand out more. So you can see where the issue is, it’s either the script or the actors, but the shows just had different scripts which makes it seem like the actors were considerably different, when in reality they aren’t.

The Lab Rats Elote Force idea was great. But it was poorly executed. First off, as Keyan pointed out, the Mighty Med people had almost no control, which was mistake number one. Because of this, Oliver went from essencially a teen genius with a crush to an obsessed idiot. If the Mighty Med people were involved, There would be a bit more balance between the Lab rats element of the show and the Mighty Med elements.

I still remember some of my favorite jokes, like how Kaz can only draw umbrellas, Horace loving bridges, the "lettering, laddering, loitering, littering" bit, the part where Alan tries to fit in at school and 'researched' by watching musicals, and then Gus leads a dance number, the magnetic potato chip. Man I loved this show.

It's my favorite DisneyXD show of all time and I feel it's severely underrated. I've never seen any kind of huge coverage on the show either, which is quite a shame. Do you think you can do Mr. Young one day? It was a Canadian show about a teenage boy who becomes a teacher at a young age. It was very, uhh, interesting, if you know what I mean. And Disney XD got the rights to air it briefly in the US. And wait until you get to its successor show, Some Assembly Required. It’s basically a proto-Game Shakers (right down to a gender swapped version of Hudson) but with toys instead of mobile games and a slightly older cast. Netflix distributed it here in America for two seasons and then lost the rights to Amazon Prime.

Another show where side characters play pretty significant roles in B and A plots is Kickin' It on Disney XD. off the top of my head i can name at least ten recurring characters, many of whom were crucial players in the story as a whole. if you keep up with this disney XD series i'd love to see you talk about it one day. it was one of my favourites and the very first thing i rewatched when disney plus came out.

You know, the first episodes make it seems like Kaz has a photographic memory. In the first two episodes, Kaz takes a lot of 'imaginary commemorative photos' which is something I don't think too many people do. He's also the one who recognizes the blue tornado, who besides being a drawn character, and pretty bland looking, was also out of costume. Also when Kaz is asked to remember the contents of a comic, he recites the copyright page before describing the plot. I think Kaz being canonically photographic could have been a really funny recurring gag, especially since he's so impulsive and outwardly idiotic.

1:43:10 this whole scene felt like one of those classic Simpsons multi layered jokes, like the scene were an unlucky bart gets his bike run over by a street sweeper, only for it to be cleaned, only for it to actually break when he tries to ride it, and then the street sweeper driver is revealed to be evil, laughing maniacally as he drives into a subway

I just finished the show a few weeks ago (motivated by this video!) and genuinely, the thing I'm most disappointed by the early cancellation is how much better the comedy is near the end. Kaz watching his own funeral and the reenactment flashbacks had me laughing out loud which is more than can be said for a lot of DCOMs. Plus, they only just start introducing more vibrant and different villains and the villain side of the world. I've loved this show for years and I'm so glad there are more people appreciating it out there.

Wallace and Clyde were a great comedic duo. I absolutely loved the scenes they had together, and it's really sad they didn't get much screentime past the end of their arc (though understandable). I forgot how funny this show was. There's a lot of great setups in payoffs all over the place, with tons of environmental and physical humor as well as verbal jokes. Might have to sit down and rewatch it sometime. About the spinoff: it's clear that Elite Force was being run mainly by the Lab Rats team, and it is fair that they wanted to write a new story for it, but it seems spiteful and disrespectful that they elected to wrap up Mighty Med's loose ends by destroying the hospital offscreen and writing Mr. Terror out of the plot entirely. I think there could have been less drastic ways to resolve that - even a simple time skip would have been better imo. Then the character assassination of the trio - it's like the writers resented the crossover and did everything in their power to make the Lab Rats look cooler and better than the superheroes. The original crossover seemed to show that tension already, by making Adam out to be stronger than the Crusher. Anyways, Mighty Med deserved a proper third season, not a terrible spinoff series, but at least it had a good run while it lasted.

You’re definitely right on the whole “they care way more about live-action” thing. Dana Terrace (creator of the recent animated show, The Owl House) has trashed Disney over and over again for their terrible executive decisions and she’s gotten little more than a polite “we’ll do better”

@M A. There’s always good people in big companies, but if they had a say in what the company did I wouldn’t be complaining. Yes, there are very talented artists within the Disney monopoly, but clearly they aren’t getting any input into what’s being made unless they’ve been with the company for a couple decades, in which case they are very happy to be complacent with their cushy paychecks while ignoring what Disney does
MrZiiz 19 gün önce
@M A. I haven’t watched the originals either. I have no nostalgia to cloud my judgment, I just see them as movies that are either good, mediocre, or bad. And the remakes are bad, in my opinion.

M A. 19 gün önce
@MrZiiz it’s funny you call them soulless cash grabs when a lot of them are better than some of the older movies. Sorry, not sorry. You overhype them due to nostalgia. Take off the rose tinted glasses. That and start accepting Disney animators want to make stories that aren’t about white ppl. This includes Aladdin cuz that movie white AF.

M A. 19 gün önce
@Logical Overdrive that’s how much Disney messed with him lol alex planned 3 seasons but decided for 2 since dealing with disney was annoying. He wanted to make a sequel series and game but Disney has rejected him. Suite life on deck was cancelled abruptly cuz they laughed in the faces of the Sprouse boy’s idea to give the series a proper conclusion. Owl House was canceled for not “fitting the brand”. Phineas and Ferb creators wished they saved their S&P letters from Disney.

i recently watched the entire of mighty med after seeing your lab rats video and remembered i wanted to watch this show. the version that i watched (not on disney+....) DID NOT INCLUDE THE SCENE WHERE OPTIMO CALLS HAPAX "DAD". i had to go back and open up the site again and watch the ending of the episode and the interaction between alan, optimo, and hapax was literally cut. it wasn't there. if i hadn't watched this video i would have never known they're all related 😭

The idea that superheroes and supervillains for the most part are able to stay a secret in the real world didn't make sense to me. In story it would've made more sense to me at least if Oliver and Kaz were from a normal world like ours where superpowers don't exist and those characters are all just made up comic characters but then two somehow got transported to world where mighty med, superheroes, and villains do exist and there aren't any comics about them that reveal vital information that any reader would know. Pretty much the same idea as Gwenpool before they changed her story.

The saddest thing about Skylar is that Paris is an amazing actress, as very easily showed by Alexa and Katie, but her lines and story were so underwhelming and overlooked she was completely backhanded in the show also if you think those 2 are the twins with the most sexual tension you have obviously never seen Ouran High School Host Club

i actually really liked her character, i assumed the lines being delivered weird was on purpose to portray that shes an alien trying to speak a language and culture and self expression thats not her own, so she comes off kind of disingenuous or forced/fake bc it isnt how the alien would naturally express or talk but maybe i made a lot of excuses for her

The thing with the buttmonkey character, the eternal butt of the joke, is that they need to deserve it and most of the time Alan does because it’s a consequence of his own actions but there are occasions it feels the mean spirited humour against him is unjustified. The babysitting subplot for example, where in the end it was a shaggy dog story and Horace playing him for laughs, one of the rare times Horace is more unlikeable than his nephew and that’s a high threshold to reach considering his usual disdain for Alan.

It's a shame we never got to see a third season. Possibly, the world would have found out about the real existence of superheroes and villains. It could all have taken a similar direction as season 3 of Lab rats. I mean, Bridget causes soo much havoc within less than a minute and is said to be the biggest threat ever. There is no way it can all stay a secret. The heroes would probably have been forced to reveal themselves in order to stop her. In my headcanon, the crossover episodes did not happen as these two worlds, in my view, do not mix well at all - just like you have pointed out too. By the way, am I the only one who would have loved to see a rival hospital for villains in the show? Maybe Gus and Jordan could have become the only normos secretly working there together. Or maybe Wallace and Clyde could have taken jobs there while they slowly start to question what they are doing there possibly expanding upon their redemption arc that is only relevant for one episode. Or Alan could have worked there out of protest since Horace neglects him so much. At the hospital for villains, he would have been appreciated. Or maybe I am just wayy too invested in the premise of a show that, deep inside, is nothing more than a part of the huge mass production of Disney Sitcoms. I should probably stop daydreaming and get some sleep instead. EDIT: Or maybe Alan could have met Razor Claw - his father's archenemy - while working there and then he finds out optimo is real and he accidentally reveals that he is his son and then... Man, I'm really too busy daydreaming.

If they did have a season 3 wrapping up the loose end with Oliver's mother, it probably would've been something like spending a couple episodes trying to get the Octurian back from her, but then she gets it back, then they have to go back into Horace's past to explain where he got his powers from, and then its all going to be resolved by them using the rewind power again and curing Oliver's mother of her evil before reviving her, bringing us back to square one, again

Your use of the P&F nickel joke was GOLDEN!!! You have a great sense of humor, man. Thank you for sharing it through your videos. Also, I disagree about Oliver & Kaz's constant arguing feeling off. They seem, to me, like they're such close friends that they're more like brothers, so their pointless bickering just feels like an extension of that. Just to point out, in case no one else does, the Stephanie-thinking-Connie's-a-foreign-princess-in-hiding story sounds incredibly similar to a Disney channel movie which I forget the name of. "The Princess Project", maybe. Don't recall, don't care. But I saw it once as a little kid & later again when my sister watched it on Disney+ (it was painful the second time around).

2:03:00 while it’s not normally how boys act, it is nice to see male characters voice when they are frustrated, without it ruining their friendship. When you show that you can talk and try to fix things, it breaks the mold for kids who see this and are influenced by the show. They might learn to communicate feelings more. I’m glad to see communication like that especially in a Disney show

I could see it being possible Mighty Med had a much bigger budget because it came after Lab Rats. Lab Rats was kind of first of it's kind for Disney, as you mention early in the video, so it would be given a smaller budget because there's no telling if it will succeed. Once Lab Rats did well, it would've been easier to get a bigger budget for a similar show like Mighty Med.

Clyde being the one who steals everything might actually be a reference to him wanting to initially stay evil.
