I'm just on episode 3 and they waste a whole episode for Brokeback Mountain you can't have a movie or TV show without it amalek is a freak. This episode could have been with the black man Asian woman and white woman living off the grid. Another part I didn't like when the lady was trying to blow up the building she got hand grenades she put on the ground but she take out a old lighter SMDH WOMEN. 02-06-23@ 9:05pm
Thought it might be a good series until they had to throw the phaggot card in. After the phaggotism popped up on Ozark and the back lash they did a way with the characters because of the drop in ratings. Go woke go broke
@Jeffrey Greco I'm not criticising any of the casting. I'm just noting that people have a priority on Ellie looking unattractive than they do with how other characters swapped races. That is concerning.
@120mm Smoothbore Pedro & Gabriel nailed Joel & Tommy and it wouldn't make sense for Sarah to be blonde haired and blue eyed with a Hispanic father and uncle. Maybe Pedro was the best choice for Joel and the went with continuity with his ethnicity
This first episode really goes to show how incredibly well made & important the game was for the industry as a concept for storytelling. Games after the last of us all followed suit. Translates so well to the screen, from to the script to the directing
@FreemanicParacusia If you want good writing and story telling play Disco Elysium it puts all other videogames to shame. Especially Marvels Rag"gähn"rok.
Video games have truly grown into a medium for damned good storytelling. I just recently got started on Ragnarok as well, and I hear they want to adapt Horizon Zero Dawn as a television series - I really hope they do that one right, if I hadn’t known better I’d have thought they adapted the game story from a novel.
This is an extraordinary series, I was amazed when I saw the first episode launched and it always makes me curious about the next episode. HBO never disappoints its viewers!
Knowing the scenes from the game, I'm both extremely excited and horrendously nervous to see this. Not because I think they'll do it badly, but because it's gonna emotionally HURT SO BAD.
@Yin_Nyang Yeah I'm starting to see where the mentally ill teenager stuff comes from, 16 year old "non-binary" with an opinion that makes no sense. What someone does in the real life outside of their acting career doesn't mean anything. Ramsay has experience playing stubborn young/teenager girls and she played Ellie perfectly in the first episode.
@Yin_Nyang An actor with experience in playing young girls won't be able to have the facial expressions of a young girl? Your opinion matches your age, ignorant and unfounded.
@120mm Smoothbore First of all I am a 16 year old non-binary. And secondly, the Actress playing Ellie looks nothing like the character in the game meaning she won’t be able to capture the facial expressions that Ellie in the game had. It will seem cheap. *Period*
Nico Parker did an excellent job of being instantly likeable, it is very difficult to make the audience care about your character with such little time on screen but her death was gut wrenching, the girl will go far in life. Pedro is as brilliant as he always is aswell, can't wait for more.
This show so far while only one episode so far blew me away. Its soooooo good. Sticking to alot of exact scenes from the game. Camera views and all. Chefs kiss
Troy Baker (Joel in the game)as one of David’s men and Ashley Johnson (Ellie in the game) as Ellie’s mom, so glad they’re getting a time to shine in the show too!
Wanted to see Joel and Tess kill Roberts men. Wanted to see joel and Tess torture Robert. Wanted to see Tess shoot Robert twice in the face point blank. Wanted to see how the soldiers would shoot unarmed civilians with out hesitation in the city in broad day light. Wanted to see Joel and Tess execute the two soldiers stoping them instead one. Why so pg 13. Toned down to to much.

@alfr8do that kinda actually looks like bella ramsey the actor of current ellie delivering someones baby and she had to hold them, cmon thats gotta be it, maybe joel and ellie comes across a pregnant woman and ellie had no choice to deliver her baby, i believe that scenario could be possible instead actually seeing ellie’s mom in a flashback that could still happen though but it crazy for people to jump at the thought of actually seeing ellie’s mother the moment they see an unrecognized woman, i remember when people thought that abby from part 2 was ellie’s mom in the trailers 😂
This is great. It’s definitely gonna be one of the best video game adaptations. I’m glad I continuing watching this. Unlike another HBO Max show that is a spin off and focusing on less funny humor, treating the characters terribly, even taking the mascot off because it’s mostly for children… You know what I’m talking about at the end…
@uuserThe writer was actually pressured by this woke feminist crazy woman. Forgot her name. She influenced the writing heavily. Anna Sarkasian I think? The game was gonna be very different before she joined.
I’m so happy with how well they executed this show. As all others I’ve only saw the first episode but I’m really impressed with this masterpiece game turned into such a masterpiece show. I was sadly disappointed with the uncharted movie. Nothing against mark wahlberg, but he was not a good choice for sully. What happened to Sully’s cigar? The actors and actresses in TLOU HBO series really nailed their characters so far. I was so happy to find out that they were making TLOU part 2. Phenomenal storyline for both. I’m so excited to see more and the anticipation for the upcoming episodes.
I think they cast Joel and Ellie great, no matter what people say. they may not look like the characters in the game but they are 2 great actors and I’m excited to see what they do
@120mm Smoothbore take it easy, so we talking about ugly people with talent and black race now, umm ok. Maybe you should look in the mirror than message me your talents. :)
@Mochi Puzzles Would you rather them sacrifice acting ability to get someone a bit closer to Ellie? Are you also annoyed at Sarah being black, Joel's wife being black or Maria Miller being black? You're more outraged that a teenager isn't attractive than you are at people swapping races. Get a grip.
Just saw the first episode and it was amazing. You respected the source material, thank you. I hope the showrunners don’t pull a Witcher or GoT and go off the rails with it and make the story unrecognizable and nonsensical. I am all for changes that make sense, honours the source material and even improves upon the original. All I care about is that the writing is great and makes sense, the story isn’t rushed because the showrunners are bored and want to wrap up the show early to go work on something else, and that the story doesn’t take a wild turn for the worst like The Witcher and Game of Thrones.
Knowing it's coming from the guys who made the Chernobyl mini-series, I have good faith, Pedro Pascal is phenomenal. The bad thing is how many times this show will make me cry if done properly. TLOU was one of the first games that I really got connected to, one of the best games of all time IMO. Lets not mess it up!
@Ray Lopez To be honest, I hope someone deep fakes him into it just to show how awful it would be. "No need for a plane ticket dear, we will just hold onto the fuselage!"
@John Johnson Nah, I feel his accent is good. Gives it a differential from other roles he has played, i.e. The Kingsman. Makes it a bit more appealing for worldwide audiences. Chernobyl is a good example, they mostly use clean English, than some lad from Yorkshire or Liverpool who uses almost entirely their own dialect.
Never played the game but my god the storyline is absolutely amazing.. I'm 3 episodes in and I can't wait for the next one... I'm a big critic of TV shows but this could be up there ahead of the wire and the sopranos. Maybe HBO need to look at more video game storylines if this is the standard
All I have to say is thank you Netflix for not making a last of us adaptation on their platform we know how that would’ve ended and thank you hbo max for making a true adaptation to a amazing game and sticking with the music source material ❤so happy Netflix stayed away from this masterpiece
@lemon critics don’t matter, there’s a reason a lot of gamers didn’t like it. And there’s also a reason Naught Dog mislead people w/ the trailer. Plus, there’s no way Ellie could carry a TV show.
@Xander Crews every critic agrees that its a masterpiece. honestly only uneducated people say that the story is bad. you can 100% DISLIKE the story, but to say the story is BAD is objectively incorrect. its one of the best stories ever made and it wasnt afraid to take big leaps. they knew they would face lots of backlash and they knew it wouldnt be good for business. all they cared about was the story, which is an extremely rare gem that should be appreciated. whether or not you admit it, tlou2's story is WAY better written than the first game
Watched the pilot yesterday. Probably the most pleasantly surprised I've been in a long time. After the dumpsterfire that the _Halo_ series is, I was incredibly skeptical that this show would be any better and would do the game justice. Boy, how wrong I've been. This is what a quality series looks like, 343. This is a warning to other game executives considering the production of a TV series; if you're not sure you can pull out something that matches _The Last of Us_ in terms of presentation and quality, don't bother.
I hope people don't write this off as "just another apocalypse show" because the Last of Us really is one of the best stories told in a game, that I've encountered. If they stick as closely as possible to the source material, this is going to be special.
@Leg explain how one of the flashbacks is half of this game then lol. That's not a biased opinion. I legitimately think the games pacing is hindered by all of the flashbacks. And no. The first game didn't need, nor did it have, any at all.
@phil the first game didn’t need any flashbacks? The flashbacks in the second game show events that happened in between the first and second game. Not sure how flashbacks make the storytelling bad. I’d be glad to accept an unbiased opinion as to why you think the story was bad.
Last of Us first episode was amazing, captured the vibe and feel of the games perfectly, Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal are the perfect choice for Joel and Ellie 👏👏👏👏
watched 1st serie - very good actors play and everything looks really good, as game itself. good dynamic not boring. after house of a dragon its totally unexpectfully good quality
I immediately wrote this show off, as I’m tired of the same “end of civilization” type films, they’ve made the plot into countless movies. The only reason I gave it a shot was for Pedro Pascal. It’s actually really good y’all. Like seriously. You will not be disappointed!
After episode 1 this seems like its gonna do well. Only complaint is some of the actor choices for the characters on a visual standpoint. Acting seems to be solid so far but Tommy, Sarah and Ellie could have had the actors look alot more like they do in the game but its not a huge deal. Just a nitpick
I hope this will make people realize what an experience and how generation defining the game was. I hope this game makes people respect videogames as art and recognize that some games have better stories than movies. This is one of them. Thank you everyone at Naughty Dog .
@Ugandalf the Brown and yet it's still one of the most beloved video game stories/gameplay loops of the previous generations? One of the playstations best sellers on two generations of consoles. So your point is?
@I Need More Flavour that not really a counter point, or at best it’s a flimsy one, like I could say, ”it’s great, hence why everyone rememberers it”. You may not remember it because the story didn’t resonate with you for whatever reasons but I remember every part of it large in part because a lot of game don’t make you sit with the choices of the character like The Last of Us 2 did.
@bruce wayne I’m 28. Some of my favourite game series I’ve played are Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout, GTA, COD, Assassins Creed, Batman Arkham, but story wise I think The Last of Us is better than all of them.
I can’t wait to watch this. The game was the most emotionally involving one I have ever played. It was almost like an interactive movie and had me close to tears on more than one occasion. I am so happy to see that at last someone is making a game into a great television drama.
@phil maybe you’re being ironic here but just in case you’re not; you don’t like “controlling a character” that is literally the point in most games. If you don’t like that there aren’t many games left to choose from
I've seen episodes one and two, but haven't seen the trailer, and when I see it now, it's very emotional, plus the music is epic, adds to the emotional atmosphere
I like the launch trailer also of this show with the original soundtrack from the game. If you played the game, it hits harder cause it's from a powerful scene from the video game.
Ellie pretending to twitch like an infected is totally in-character for her 😂 I was skeptical at first how well they'd adapt this story to tv, but this trailer got me excited!
@Richard Wilkerson really though, she never jokes about joel dying in the second game and he meant a lot to her, dont you think she wouldnt joke about her bff and also girlfriend maybe turning into a zombie probably right in front of her?
@Richard Wilkerson Ellie is played by an upcoming British actress Bella Ramsey, the daughter of a lady I've known for many years.. She comes from an adventurous but very grounded family, I think she on her way to a successful career 😁👍
I don't have high hopes considering who they cast. They should have made it another show and not the Last of Us; Won't be able to satisfy most. Shame, could have been great buit it's going to be a dumpster dive.
It's so refreshing to find a screen adaption of a game that doesn't get diluted into generic mediocrity, or otherwise butchered. Directors should really take note of this one
Diluted.
Pedro Pascal has a talent playing characters with tough exteriors who are trying to transport children across long distances slowly starting to love that child like his own despite seeing them merely as cargo at the beginning of the journey.
@NtyrObliviOn That's really interesting because I saw the similarities as well. Also, if you've played StarCraft Raynor _must_ have been based on Brolin/Moss, they look sound and act the same
Honestly after what happened in the Last of Us II (almost everyone hating the game) i wouldn't mind hbo to change the story for a possible season 2 and go with something better hopefully, would be hard to do worse. Loving this season very respectfull to a loved game and story.
Actually they SHOULD change season 2 episode. Otherwise I won't bother. I don't want to see a man's journey who eventually will be reduced to a golf ball.
3 years ago, I watched a BBC documentary about this fungus in ants, And then I said to my friends, " What if they made a zombie movie with this". After years, Here I'm watching this 💙
“You may not be her father, but you were someone’s.” Damn Henry never said that in the game and that’s a great line. I can’t wait to see some original writing for this new show that mixes with the game writing and the fact that they have Neil Druckman helping is how you know it won’t disappoint.
@Pawelec Widelec You're saying the ppl working on the show thinks the audience is dumb, so they have to spell what Joel thinks of Ellie....even though the line was already in the game.
@DehydratedTree good to know that you have years of experience in the field and have made better masterpieces yourself. im glad somebody finally recognized that and made you king omg 💀 ong anyone who claims they are better than professionals that critics adore gives me either 14 year old needs to touch grass vibes, or 40 year old divorced dad who got into a right wing pipeline vibes
@Richard Jefferies Amy had NOTHING to do with TLOU. Do your own research and stop copying misinformation that read on the internet. Druckmann 100% wrote TLOU1. That's why he took the credit for it and got put in full charge of the sequel. Which I honestly do think was a mistake. He wasn't the director of the first one (Bruce Straley was) so he didn't have the power to let his ego get the better of him like he did with part 2. So yeah while I agree he definitely screwed up the sequel big time, there's no denying the fact that he is indeed capable of writing a more than decent story when kept on a tight leash. Uncharted 4 literally provides this theory as well.
The fact that Neil Druckmann is helping gives me great pause. he didn't write it and he fired the woman who did and then he made LoU2, which sucked b@llz.
I really enjoyed the first episode. Even the voices match up..I know it will be hard to do but i might wait till end of season 1 to watch it again so i can binge watch it..
The first game was epic. The second was terrible. So far, the series is based on the first game - with a twist. They have added the woke crap from the second game. Why fix something that is not broken?
The last of us devia ser um filmaço i não serie.. The last of us foi o melhor jogo que joguei no console ate hoje,e sempre sera conçerteza, nunca nenhum jogo me tocou tanto como o the last of us! ❤️
@Juan Francisco Rivera Valcárcel You cant really say that bruh..I heard many people saying that the writing and pacing goes downhill in the Last of us 2 and it was just a generic and an unnecessary sequel with relentless violence.. I never played the game,so i cant really judge..so i actually appreciate the other guy's opinion as he is a Berserk enjoyer..as in this case,we cant really state a simple objective right answer..
Watching the first episode and it's really really good praise to the film crew how much they try to follow the game steps Take notes Resident Evil! That's how you film a game!!!
They take out the best small parts from the game.
I honestly had low expectations for this at first, but this looks REALLY good. Also I like how they're putting their own twist with additional dialouge and scenes while staying faithful to the game.
@Shockked aye well I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! I like Bella as Ellie but I agree we are gonna have to watch the whole thing before our judgements can be finalized! So stoked for Ep 2 tomorrow!!
@Jeffrey Greco I take back everything I said. Legitimately everything. I made this comment over a month ago. I’m still on the fence about Ellie, but everyone else killed it.
@Shockked the casting is top tier. Pedro nailed Joel so far, Bella nailed Ellie. Marlene is the same actress who voiced her. Gabriel Luna embodied Tommy. Just bc you don't like how they look doesn't mean it was bad casting
Just got done with the third episode so far this is pretty much a PG version of the game. There is hardly any violence or tension pretty much no infected to deal with. Hopefully it starts to pick up next episode.
I enjoyed the first episode with very compelling scenes, credible and pressing dialogues, I have strong doubts about the number of episodes that could water down the contents
Ellies sarcasm, joels indifference, the clickers, a bloater, traversing rooftops with boards, Tommy being there for his brother, etc... It's just like the game.
Omg im so hyped to see my favourite game in a film. Ive beaten and speedrun it so many times past the years this is gonna be amazing to see in a film...
This is going to be bigger than Game of thrones and will lead to the last of us part 3 on ps5! Looks so promising for fans of the game that changed videogames forever! Hope it'll get the success it deserves!
I choked up when I recognized certain characters. It's crazy how much the games make you care for them, then break your heart by what happens to them. This show is going to be SO good.
@finding channel name crying feels freeing :) If a show is good enough to evoke those feelings from me, I'd say it deserves those tears. Don't shame people for having emotions dude. Life is hard enough already.
Yeah but I was like “Ooh not that scene again! My heart couldn’t take it.” 😢 Edit: when you try not to give a spoiler and the whole thread has already spoiled it with names and everything 😂
The mall lighting up, Riley and Ellie taking a picture, Sam hugging his brother, Bill meeting his partner, Ellie and Joel hugging!!!!! This show is going to tear us apart!!!😭❤😄 BEYOND EXCITED!!!
After I played the first game I said it needed to be made into a movie. Nearly 10 years later, after all the talk of movies/making a series were finally getting it. Feels like a dream come true. I hope it lives up to the game because it was the best game I have ever played
@Dmitry V I'm no hater, but TLOU is good because it has a good story. The gameplay is only solid (as in its perfect for the game but not the best) Just staying within the type of game (zombie/apocalypse), there are plenty of games with "better" gameplay like metro, fallout, state of decay, project zomboid, STALKER. Going out of it you have plenty more, Batman series, Spider-Man series, Tomb raider series, Red Dead & GTA series and etc. Not including plenty of gameplay focused games like X-Com etc. Heck, I'd even say that Uncharted has better gameplay because the puzzle elements are better there because they are a main part of the gameplay. The main part of TLOU is stealth combat. Scavenging for parts is the second main gameplay element (which isn't anything new) and "puzzles" are just mini environmental breaks from the action (understandably not complex given the scenarios).
@OneTwoMark And that's what we call good casting. You get actors who can embody the character and then transform them into the character, not the opposite. We don't need cosplayers.
Kathryn Newton would've been perfect as Ellie. Also, there's a fan made video out there with Nikolaj Coster Waldau as Joel and he seemed perfect for the role even though Pedro Pascal has done a great job so far.
