This is our First Time Watching The Last of Us Episode 4 "Please Hold My Hand". Joel and Ellie encounter something that is far more lethal than the infected after leaving Bill and Frank's stronghold. Joel must take every precaution to keep Ellie safe lest he experience the same thing that happened to his daughter all those years ago.

The woman leader from the Hunters, Kathleen, is a new character. They introduced her to give this group a bit more background and why they are chasing and trying to kill you in the game/series. The bearded guy, the "officer" of Kathleen, is btw Jeffrey Pierce who did the voice over of Tommy in the game.

I'm loving the characterization between these two. Ellie's pun book that she kept from Riley, Joel teaching her how to properly care a gun insinuating the trust he's instilling in her, not to mention how quickly they still get in a lot of progression in despite the short runtime. They waste no time with this. The fact they even gave some depth to some of the hunters here is also a massive plus.

As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas. But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like and expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural. And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

They are doing incredible. My wife is ready to play pt1 remake and I’m holding off until we finish the show. I can’t tell if I’m more excited to watch the show, watch something I love with the person I love, or have the person I love play the game I fell in love with. I think this show honestly is designing for this exact experience

Jumping in early, so this is about the first part. Specifically the ambush. It's SO FUN to watch the two different reactions. On the right we have these author/director-intended reactions. "Oooh! Whoa! Ahhhh!" Etc. (I'm paraphrasing.) And on the LEFT you've got... big smile! Clearly *loving* the adaptation... noting the similarities. There's something just DELIGHTFUL about the contrast! Both loving it... in your own ways! Good stuff!

When ellie walked away in the shop scène...i felt for her... mad af i think we are all joel and ellie is all of our daughters..i always hate seeing her being anything other than a child tbh... its a theme here...one i never really appreciated but always felt deep down... looking at everything bad in tlou the one constant seems to be protection of innocence...even kathleen had those vibes.... well until she went all missery chops on us.

The Hank Williams tape is the same one that they listen to in the game. And it was in one one of the trailers for the show. Plus that “he ain’t even hurt.” Moment was one of the first scenes marketing the game back when it was announced.

@Victor Negron Because, as they explain, she is the one who caused the revolution. As game-Tommy said, her brother talked and talked but he never did anything. Kathleen was able to do the terrible things necessary to overthrown FEDRA.

If he was still around they’d still be stuck doing nothing. 😂 I understand the explanation the show gave for her being in charge. The point I was trying to make is it’s not believable. She just didn’t strike me as someone who would get all that stuff done. She comes off as more of a “Karen” type than an actual leader of a revolution.

@Motivation Mike They're secret conversation in that you don't get prompts for them to happen. You literally have to go to certain spots and stand there for 1-2 minutes. Unless you already knew about them, most people playing the game for the first time didn't find any of the joke conversations.

Just go back and replay the games man . Won’t hurt . Games been through the ps3 , then remastered on ps4 and now remade on ps5. Games one of the best to ever come out and it really sticks out of alot of other games so you definitely should play it again to get a refresher. I of course love the games way more then the show and the choice of the characters looks in the game as in the show I don’t like the actor choices in terms of there appearance that don’t look anything like them from the game

Anthony should stop focusing on the differences in the game and enjoy the show. It is good that they are deviating from the source material. In the game these dudes were called “Hunters” and we don’t get any context into who they are and what they do. They are bad just to be bad. In a show they can explore these characters more and show how this world is more grey and how everyone you kill is not just an NPC but real humans.

"I don't really miss the action', she says here. WHAT? This is a story that is based on action (role playing is action) and not having any in two back to back episodes lowers the quality of the show. Making this show seem more like a bait and switch (as if last week's episode wasn't a big enough clue to that) to serve The Message. I mean, let me add it up. Homosexuals living in Paradise despite the world around them falling apart. EVERY single leader of the groups (even in this one) is a woman (and/or minority). The main character having been race/swapped. IF I remember correctly, Druckman said he wanted the show to veer away from violence and focus on the drama.

When people that have played the game praise it, 99 times out of 100 they are praising the story, the characters - they are not praising the action (which is great, but it's just there because it's a game).

@Hornacek I would urge you to watch ANY of the miniseries from the 1970s (Master of the Game, Stand, Winds of War, and dozens more besides) and you will see that it does not matter if the miniseries runs for two nights (As V the Alien Invasion miniseries did) or three nights (As V: The Final Battle did) or any of the longer, character driven, miniseries (Stand, Roots, Winds of War or any of the miniseries based on the stories of John Jakes). While most of the miniseries from the 1970s were based on bestselling novels (the video games of the age) and had to be shortened or otherwise edited to fit the time they had to run, what they did not do--and what you defended the Last of Us for doing--was to cut the action. They managed (because the screen writers were picked based on talent and not because they checked a box) to fit in nearly all of the action, and even in the shorter 2 day ones, all of the character development. In this series only episode 3 managed to do the character development but it was light on the action, and still the characters (and the actors playing them) were successful enough to be compared to the miniseries of the1970s.

The character playing cathleen is trash. They casted a soccer mom to play a lead of a crazy group of killers. They easily could have gotten some bad azz chick or dude to play that part. Her character sucks and I really hope gets killed off next episode.
