A simple group of 50 special forces sent into Argentina to dish out some EXTREME PREJUDICE on their POLITICIANS would have saved a lot of lives .Once Argentinas politicians realised they were being targeted they would have ordered a retreat from the Islands .It was a disgrace to send out troops to do this job when a tiny task force could and should have been deployed ...One will add that an Email was sent to the Home office mentioning this option .I never did get a reply

I'm Argentinian and I don't know if someone would ever read this that you forgot: the dictator of Argentina sent 18 to 22 years old guys to fight in the war without any previous training. They took away children from their families to fight a war they've never expected to fight. This is why so many people here say (myself included) that our true enemy were not the British but our Negligent Goverment Those Argentinian soldiers were victims of the dictatorship of Argentina

Unfortunately I believe that to be the act of the old juntra propoganda still being brought through to give the general populace something to look at to ignore the issues of Argentina, or make them try and get sympathy from other countries for being bullied by Britain. Unfortunately this leads to a large amount of annoyance on Europe's half, and the islanders live in fear of aggression from Argentina

@Gabriel Guedes Balogo Correct. Doesn't mean that Argentina is a major naval power, and it certainly doesn't invalidate the original point, which is that Britain easily had the ability to sail a major fleet 8,000 miles to defend the Falklands.
Magor Farkas
Magor Farkas 5 aylar önce
@Gabriel Guedes Balogo the brits destroyed the Great Armada, thus came out of the conflict as the major naval force, and the spanish lost almost all their power at that point. Spain was the great sailor of the seas for 2-3 hundred years at most, but England dominated all of naval warfare for half a millenia

Another interesting story from this conflict is the one of the UK's forward air attacks by RAF Avro Vulcan Bombers. They were I believe transported to the ascension islands and then flew to the Falklands, being refueled by Handley Paige Victor Carrier/Bombers - which also had to be refueled in the air in an incredibly complex operation. It's called Operation Black Buck, and it's a really interesting story of Thatcher's desire to keep the island, and of the ingenuity of the RAF engineers and pilots to make it happen.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 We all deserve to go to hell because we have sinned. But God loved us and gave us His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross in our place to pay the punishment of all of our sins for us when he died on the cross. Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and yet God the Son also. God the Father (God)has raised Jesus his son from the dead. JESUS IS COMING AGAIN!!!! Repent of your sins, and believe in who Jesus is and what He did for you and that God the Father has raised Him from the dead and you WILL BE SAVED FROM THE LAKE OF FIRE(hell). Sinner’s prayer Lord, I know I’m a sinner, I believe that you died on the cross in my place of burning in hell forever so I wouldn’t have to go to hell. I accept your sacrifice for me. Please save me from the lake of fire and forgive my sins. Thank you for the gift of eternal life! Amen. We are saved by grace through faith! After accepting Jesus the Holy Spirit will come indwell you, and help guide you in your Christian life!:) Now turn from your old, sinful ways towards Jesus Christ and surrender your life to Him! Read the Bible(particularly New Testament to start)for more instructions! If you have any questions please ask me! God bless you!😊

There's a graphic novel by Raymond Briggs called "The Tin Pot Foreign General and the Old Iron Woman" is a satire on the Falklands war, it both hilarious and at the same time realistic and surreal. Like Briggs turned both Galtieri and Thatcher into giant metal robot monstrosity, with Galtieri carrying bloody knife and Thatcher literally shooting cannons out of her bosoms.

That is literally what borders are on a map, look at US and all the straight lines drawn between states. It people looking at a map saying this is us and that is you. Then it was done for sectioning colonial territorial control and in the US some state lines where drawn to give some states access to rivers and other valuable pieces of exploitable geography that they didn't have previously. People draw lines on maps It's the exact same thing.

There was one man from Britain who fought there. The rush of adrenaline from the fire at him had such an usual effect: he couldn't sweat. And so it was in 2001, at his daughters 5th birthday party at a Pizza Express chain in Woking, London. He was decisively not with a young, non-consenting woman, as she had the misinformation of him sweating profusely that very night.

My school friend's dad fought on the Falkland War, he was an artillery man (Argentina), he gave a speech to us but sadly I can't remember much, it was pretty long ago. The only thing I remember, is that we all agreed that the war was completely unnecessary, and even then, the government was sending 18 years old people with no experience in military at all to fight in the islands, while the british had less people but they were way more trained
Tall Troll
Tall Troll Yıl önce
Yeah, the Argentinian troops were mostly conscripts with far too few officers and NCOs to lead them, whereas the lead British troops were Royal Marines and Paras, both highly trained, elite formations (the Marines have the longest basic training course of any regular army in the world at 42 weeks). Add that to naval and aerial superiority for the British forces, and the rather poor supplies the Argentinian troops were getting , and it's not very surprising that they weren't all that up for fighting
Persea
Persea Yıl önce
@Tall Troll And to top it off, some argentine troops didn't know they were going to war until they were already on the boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean
a Tin of Spam

not to mention the majority of the British forces in the falklands were elite units; the SAS, Marines and Paras were and still are the most elite units in the entire british armed forces, if not NATO. There were standard british army soldiers, but mainly for garrisons and rear guard. So not only were the argentinians poorly trained, but they were fighting literally the best soldiers the british had

This story is actually about 100 times more crazy. The British had started (I think in the 70s) running a program to hand over the islands to Argentina. They first had to get the Island citizens accustomed to being' Argentinian'. . . Just about all the children of the Falklanders went to school in Argentina (and could already speak Spanish). They bought their groceries in Argentina and all international flights were via Argentina. In essence the Falklands was too expensive for the UK and was slowly being integrated in Argentina. Thatcher was willing to cut the costs of the Falklands and hand them to Argentina. . . The entire 'hand over program' was going to take generations. This was taking too long for the Argentine Governing Junta who were in financial trouble and wanted the islands immediately as an attempt to raise political pride. The British warned them not to invade or rush the program as the Falklanders held British citizenship and the British were bound by law to protect their citizens. . . The Argentine government thought they were stronger than the 'pesky' Brits and decided to move in.... the rest is history.

It's a terrible shared tragedy in our nation's histories. People from both the old and new worlds died for the sake of one South American dictator's vanity project: Those small islands, which we would have certainly ceded without incident if diplomacy had won the day. And now a transfer doesn't seem possible for an extremely long time because we're too nervous to begin withdrawing again and the population is now so overwhelmingly pro-Britain. It'd be like if the Chinese attacked Hong Kong while we discussed transfer arrangements.

Did you know the Falkland war was one of the last wars for an army to use bayonets. Some marines were pinned and out of ammo so the lieutenant told them to load bayonets (because you know, Royal Marines). It was only then the Argentinians surrendered that battle because it well and good shooting at a range but when you have 50 or so marines charging at you with point bits of metal with the intent to kill you until you kill them all is a bit less ok

The landscape and climate was very similar to areas of Wales and Scotland where the British train- it was just as miserable as home. The Argentinians were trained (it at all) to fight in warm or tropical South America. A minor fun point- some settlers in Argentina were from Wales and spoke Welsh. It was a great 'code' language as no other S American countries spoke it. However un encrypted radio messages were listened into by the Welsh Guards who were fluent in Welsh and so they got good info.
