0:00 Introduction: How to clean out your arteries and reduce the risk of heart disease
0:22 What causes plaque in the arteries?
1:34 High LDL cholesterol
2:20 The best nutrients to support your heart
5:13 The best foods for blocked arteries
12:33 Learn more about biofilms!
Let’s talk about the best meal you could eat to clean your arteries and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
The plaque that can build up in the arteries is a combination of calcium, protein, and cholesterol. In many cases, the calcium results from biofilms, which are colonies of microbes with something like a shell to protect themselves.
Biofilms tend to accumulate on roughened edges-if the arteries are smooth and strong, they probably won’t accumulate there. Lesions, oxidation, inflammation, or damage could lead to plaque in the arteries.
Typically, a person with clogged arteries will also have high LDL cholesterol (small-dense particle size LDL). Both arterial plaque and this type of LDL are correlated with a high-carb, high-sugar diet.
The best nutrients to support the cardiovascular system and reduce the risk of heart disease:
1. Vitamin K2
2. Vitamin C
3. Vitamin E
4. Omega-3 fatty acids
The best meal for your cardiovascular system:
• Wild-caught salmon
• Sauerkraut
• A large arugula salad with extra-virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, sunflower seeds, Parmigiano cheese, and garlic.

One addition IMPORTANT point: heat destroys vitamin C (as in "pasteurization"), so when you get your sauerkraut, find one that is raw or make it yourself.

I am talking about the raw unpasteurized ones in the health food stores. What would be the point in buying the crappy one that is pasteurized and heat treated? These good ones still do not list vitamin C.

2:20 The best way to prevent, slow down or reverse plaquing in the arteries: • Vitamin K2 • High vitamin C foods • Vitamin E • Keep your Omega-6 fatty acids very low and keep your Omega-3 fatty acids very very high 5:13 The best foods for blocked arteries: • Wild-caught salmon • Sauerkraut (a fermented cabbage product): it's loaded with vitamin K2, it's also loaded with Vitamin C (7 times the RDA) • A big arugula salad with extra-virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar (or red balsamic vinegar), sunflower seeds, Parmigiano cheese (get the authentic type from Italy), and garlic Thank you Dr. Berg Sincerely, 11 : 11 Meditation Portal Channel

So awesome to hear all this. I am 59 and thought I was eating healthy than most. However, found that I really wasn't eating as well as I thought. I have intermittently fasted now daily for 6+ months doing two close meals a day with once-a-week OMAD and changed the way I eat. Even though I looked fit before, I didn't feel fit. I now lost 20 lbs (went from size 8/10 to 4/6) and my debilitating joint pain and stiffness have subsided. Thanks to Dr. Berg and Dr. Ekberg. Both are Awesome for sharing all of this information. I found them from researching after my husband had a heart attack in the Fall. He has lost 40+ lbs and changed his terrible eating habits and no longer wants to take naps every day and sit on the couch! SO GRATEFUL

Also, be sure to read the ingredients on your fermented "pickled" foods (i.e., sauerkraut). If vinegar is listed, then it's NOT actually fermented and will lack the good stuff that Dr. Berg is recommending. Vinegar is used as a flavoring/seasoning to make foods taste fermented. But the REAL fermented/pickled foods will not use vinegar. Check out Bubbies and Saverne brands. They are the real deal!

Dr. Berg said pasteurized sauerkraut isn't good. From BUBBIES website: "Are Bubbies products a “raw food” or are they pasteurized? Our Kosher Dill Pickles and Relish are 100% raw. Our Sauerkraut goes through a heat treatment process designed to slow down the fermentation so that it’s perfectly fermented when opened. This treatment means our Sauerkraut is neither raw nor pasteurized. Only our Bread & Butter Chips are pasteurized and “shelf stable”. Sounds like FLASH-PASTEURIZATION to me.
Donya Lane
Donya Lane 3 aylar önce
@Cocky SonuvaB*, are you saying that Bubbies sauerkraut is a no-go then? That's a real shame! But it also sounds like (as it's being described) it might be fermented up to the point that it's heat treated. Perhaps that doesn't completely destroy the probiotics. But still... too bad. Guess I'll be checking out their kosher dills, instead.
Sarah Hoskins

Cleveland kitchens pickles are fermented. Bubbies is not.

I ferment and can my own Sauerkraut. That process does not included vinegar, but does require salt and a heating process for vacuum sealing. I'm assuming the salt and heating process kills off the good bacteria.

I just did my first ferment which should be ready this weekend. I used 1 red cabbage, 1 green cabbage, and an apple along with some Redmans Salt. It's so healthy and a bonus for me is that I love cabbage. I'll be eating this everyday moving forward. Just remember, it should be a raw ferment and not store bought. It's easy to make and requires very little extra kitchen gadgets. Mary's Nest and Off Grid with Doug and Stacy all have videos on the best way to make.

I’m on a low sodium diet. I think sauerkraut has too much sodium.
resourcefulgirl
resourcefulgirl 2 aylar önce
@Judie Ahmed If I had to guess I would say it's about 1/8 of a tablespoon per serving. Dr Berg did a video on Baja Gold salt that has a lower percentage of sodium. It has the needed minerals just less sodium. If you could ferment with that you would be fine. Search his channel for the Baja salt and look into it.
resourcefulgirl
resourcefulgirl 2 aylar önce
@Blonde Bobbi Cool! I'm eating it everyday and the texture of the cabbage is the best! I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I made 2 batches and one sat in the dark for 2 weeks and then I refrigerated. The second one will be refrigerated this weekend after 3 weeks of sitting out. They should both taste different so I can decide which I like best.

Great video, keep in mind periodontal disease is closely related to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D also helps keep tight junctions between the cells to prevent bacterial leakage. As a dentist i don't believe that periodontal disease spreads to cause dementia, and or cardiovascular disease, but that those individuals with periodontal disease have very low vitamin D levels, which correlated with major illness of every kind. fix the D level (preferably by natural sunlight exposure) which controls the gut microbiome, and a lot of problems disappear....

I am down fifty pounds due to intermittent fasting and eating healthy. My biggest secret is getting a lot of rest and stepping away from stressful situations. My journey has been going on for seven months thus far. I am also over sixty and one of the greatest mindsets is to first eat to get healthy and secondary is the weight loss that will occur. Arugula salads have been my go to food. I am still refining my dietary choices according to every video that I watch. Thank you!🌞🌻🙏🌼

salad is not healthy. its full arsenic. But learn the hard way like everyone else. Meat has the nutrition your body needs. You want to stay away from carbs cause there is not a lot of nutrition in it and it will bloat you and make you tired. All it does is turn into sugar. That is basically what salad does with a ton of arsenic in it. All your doing is putting sugar in your body. Foods that are composed of carbohydrates are turned into sugar or glucose. These include foods such as pasta, bread, vegetables, fruit, and rice= eat meat. Just because you lost weight doesn't mean you are being healthy.

@Valerie Neal i know my first hand from my own mother and relatives who come from underdeveloped countries where health insurance doesn’t exist everything is based on cash. Either you use what little pay you receive on basic living needs or try and get dental work but the point they have heart issues you can already see the damage their dental is in and they have no idea that this is an outward sign of something worse going on in their bodies. It is so sad that ppl have too make this detrimental decisions through no fault of their own.

I am Italian and you pronounced Parmigiano correctly doc! That's incredible how the diet you described is really mostly part of our daily intake, especially in the northern part of Italy, where we are closer to Austria and we inherited the culture of sauerkraut. Of course we do eat also quite a lot of less healthy stuff such as lots of cold cuts, alcohol, sweet cakes and refined grains. But our grandparents did not. Thats why they get to live till 100 whereas the younger generation is "kind of" less healthy. In Italy we say :"if you eat like a king, you'll die like a king" which, by the way, kings were dieing very young and from coronary deseases.

I lost 21 lbs. on Ozempic. The crazy thing is- I literally lost my desire for cheese and milk products and crave salads all the time now. 😕 I used to hate salads. Huge fan of sourcrout though, I’m so glad my body craves what is good for it now- that has not always been the case. Great episode, Dr. Berg. I hope you don’t mind me mentioning it in my podcast Diabetic Survival? Your advice is priceless. Indeed here in the US, we need to allow food to be our medicine, but with foods grown in soil deprived conditions, many of our seemingly harmless crops are just wasted resources. Need to get back into the old ways of farming just like in Europe. Btw- what do you think of Dr. Gundry, and lectins? Another hazard in the world of vegetables. 😮

The thing about Parmesan, the legal term we use for that here in England is 'Protected Designation'. Many foods/drinks are affected by it. Things like Devonshire Clotted Cream, Cornish Pasties, Jersey Royal Potatoes etc. I believe Champaign is a protected designation in France too. I do love parmesan, although our youngest has a dairy allergy so I don't get to enjoy it as often as I'd like. edit: also, you mention about getting the genuine Parmesan. Absolutely 100%. And because it contains masses of flavour you don't need a whole mountain of it. For the high price it can be used for many dishes so the cost evens out over many meals.

I appreciate all your videos and since listening and following them, I have been losing weight, gaining energy and a lot of the "symptoms" I was suffering have stopped or been reduced. The only thing I have a small issue with is that buying all these foods, especially the organic or fresh market foods, is very expensive. I would love to know how this diet can be maintained when on a budget.

I went on a mediterranean diet. My blood pressure which was not high averaged at 125/80 went to 110/70. But what helped the most was my pain from inflammation went down a lot. Its not a cheap diet but one that is easy to stay on.

Thank you Dr. Eric Berg DC for this supportive video. I’m 52 years old and I just want to keep my heart healthy because my mother and father has had heart failure problems and got a pace-maker and I am trying to avoid that in this age now and watching what I put in my mouth and eatting it. Also, for my liver and trying to quit which I should on alcohol but I don’t know for red wine pinot noir good for the heart as well.

Dr. Berg - what do you think about black garlic? It tastes amazing, and doesn't leave you with garlic breath. The fermentation process causes black garlic to contain substantially more antioxidants than raw garlic. This is partly because allicin, the compound that gives garlic its pungent odor when crushed, is converted into antioxidant compounds like alkaloids and flavonoids as black garlic ferments.

Hi, some useful info in this video. Just a couple of questions - isn't kimchi supposed to be superior to sauerkraut? Secondly - isn't the omega3/omega6 ratio better in rapeseed oil than olive oil. As omega 6 was mentioned as inflammatory I would have thought rapeseed oil would be better?

One of the most useful things you could add to this would just be to explain what sauerkraut is for example: sauerkraut is.... eg: "Sauerkraut is finely cut raw cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria. It has a long shelf life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid formed when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage leaves. It is one of the best-known national dishes in Germany."

Hi where do you get kefir milk?
My Personal Channel for Family Videos
@atlantis-xaymaca moors I get it at the grocery store. A lot of them carry it, but certainly the high end ones do for sure. We found a whole section of it in FL in a whole food grocery there. They usually have both goat and cow kefir milk. You can also use fermented sauerkraut as well. Just start slow and use a little every day until you see how much you really need. For me it took 4-8 weeks for a significant difference.

Uk - I use to be 22 stone in weight which is 308ibs, I now weigh 15.5 stone which is 217 - my body fat is 27% apparently. I Recently had it checked by a studio in Cambridge for a fee (health check included). I lost a lot of my weight by simply changing my diet, exercising and taking up some hobbies. My morning routine: - around 7-8am awake, I do 30-50 burpees before breakfast Breakfast - porridge, fruits, fat yogurts (not diet), sometimes toast it depends on work I skip lunch so between 9am to 5pm I dont eat, except for fruit and water dinner - anything but carbohydrates, I eat a lot of fish, red meats, vegetables and dry foods. Snacks - Nuts, dry berries, fruits (oranges my fav I guess because of the sugar) occasionally a square piece of chocolate (rare) drinks - Coffee and water only. Black coffee mostly. Exercise - 3-5 days a week. I do weights every 2 days and jog every day that isnt weights. example monday - weights, arms and chest tuesday - 3 mile jog wednesday - weights, upper body thursday - 3 mile jog plus leg weights friday - weights arms and chest saturday - rest, usually go out sunday - depends on family, but I do manage to go for a jog most evenings Depends on job, life and events happening. But above is a routine I stick to most of the time and its helped me keep the weight off for years after. I am 33 years old now and suffered as a very heavy person at the age of 21. edit - I did have asthma really badly aswell, my breathing was 350 on the peak flow test but these days it ranges from 600-650, still have asthma. So its hard being asthmatic and overweight. Get the weight in check ppl before its to late.

2019 out of the blue I was diagnosed with arterial sclerosis. My arteries were blocking up with plaque. Within weeks I suffered a dvt. I was a former wildlife ranger in a remote set of Scottish Islands in the Atlantic and later a hill walking guide in the Scottish Highlands. I considered myself fit and healthy and yet....... It's a progressive disease and within a few moths I could barely walk because of pain. I smoked and had done so for over 60 years. I'd always considered myself so fit and healthy that I could get away with it but I was wrong. It's taken 3 years but I've completely reversed my medical condition. Stopped smoking and every day eat a bowl of banana, avocado, blueberries, black grapes, flax seed, granola with nuts and raisins, yoghurt and almond milk. I eat twice a day and my 2nd meal is grilled chicken and asparagus sprinkled with Italian hard cheese

At 6:14, sauerkraut is suggested as a cardiovascular disease remedy. However, sauerkraut contains a heavy dose of sodium, associated with increasing blood pressure. The added sodium also does not promote all healthy gut bacteria, even if the salt does not prevent growth of the specific bacteria in sauerkraut culture. Salt is routinely added to meat products to counter growth of all bacteria.

This is great! I LOVE sauerkraut! And arugula! And sunflower seeds. So happy to know I gravitate to healthy food naturally! I try to eat only European hard cheeses but it has been hard to find since COVID. I noticed that cellulose being put into pre-grated Parmesan years ago! This is why it is ALWAYS better to buy whole foods and go from there. A block of Parmesan is expensive but when you just grate a little, that block goes a long way!

Vitamin C, R-lipoic acid, lysine, proline, Vitamin D3, omega 3s, folic acid, elemental magnesium and magnesium chloride. This will clean all of the plaque, regulate blood pressure, and fill in the previous plaque areas with new collagen. This Linus Pauling had great research on all of this and my dad did this after a stroke for 3 months and they said his cells looked 10 years younger than they did 3 months ago when the stroke occurred and he had little to no blockages anymore.
