the whole concept of this is so cool. you def have to watch it a few times because everything is moving a fast, but i think it’s about her finding herself aside from this relationship, aka no longer being his “ride or die bitch”. she starts with helping him kill who they need to kill, but the entire time she’s penning “SOS” (save our sons, save or souls) on her wrist. that correlates to the end of the video when she’s in all white, pushes his car off the pier, and then gets on the boat. then the scene where she gets shot is supposed to be the moment she finally “dies” and he abandons her and she realizes the real person he is and is “reborn”. the bloodstrain on her shirt is supposed to symbolize the blood on her hands from the actions she did because she loved him and because of him. shes hurt people, but she’s more importantly hurt herself. the next scene where he’s driving the street is supposed to be him making his easy getaway, but then he sees her in the back seat, so now he knows he’s fucked up. the last scene is her final revenge for sure. i feel like the dance is supposed to symbolize kinda that look but don’t touch idea. it’s her moment to finally do what she wants to do and not have to ask for permission or feel a certain way about it. she no longer is going to allow herself to keep the bloodstain on her shirt. the whole video and song is about her freeing herself from her past self. that “damn bitch you so thristy” line i also believe is an introspection. she’s talking to herself about how dumb she looks out here ride or dying for a niggas she knows will leave her in the dust if it benefitted him. her past self used to be always down for nigga, but now she knows that they only care about themselves, so she’s no longer allowing herself to be degraded and overpowered by this man. hence why she kills her shadow at the end. it’s the final kill she has to make to be this new woman. hope that makes sense, this song is so beautiful! i love you so much sza.

@Jade Kira what bothers me is that this artist and her supporters whatever their race or ethnicity are participating in colonizing R&B music by turning it into something that more closely resembles the type of music they believe will attract a wider fan base through adding listeners who traditionally listen to other forms of music. It's calculated and disrespectful of the rich culture that inscribes R&B music that has such a strong legacy that many still listen to songs from the past today. So many of these artists who perform this kind of music are interchangeable trends who developed an online following and will be replaced by the next new trance music, rather than practicing the craft by performing in front of live audiences. I'm so glad that there are some who are guarding the keys to culture while still modernizing it.
