Bro I’m sobbing reading these comments, when I heard bastard when I was 12, it helped me stay me in an area where being the weird brown kid wasn’t it. The things he said in his songs I related too, it was important for me as a kid to have someone like Tyler and his outrageous lyrics. He was for the goofy weird kids that liked to make the people that don’t like them uncomfortable. I felt his anger towards his dad. I felt those violent thoughts. Tyler was proof you can experience these dark thoughts and not let it consume you or make you a bad person. He taught me to channel those feelings into art. My mom was the only person I could ever play Tyler’s old music around, she’s been mother the creator ever since. As a kid I never thought tyler would be who he is today and it’s been fucking awesome being there for each era and album, it’s been amazing watching this man blossom. He is truly the greatest of all time like he deserves everything.
This is art. The opening "I'm sorry" with the expression gets me everytime. Anyone who's ever had to apologize to their abuser knows the shame, disgust and fear associated with that I'm sorry.
for me it just reminded me of how i’ve tried to apologize to this one person in my life so many times and they just won’t talk. it’s been eating at me for a year and i can’t shake it
tyler is such a genius, the way he’s able to tell stories thru rapping. I love that about rappers, that they’re able to tell stories and express their feelings in such unique ways.
Lyrics: Pardon me, excusez-moi (I'm sorry) Yeah, I coulda made a better choice, I mean, what the fuck? I'm sorry, I'm fucking sorry Yeah I'm sorry, I'm sorry I don't see you more I'm sorry that the four minutes where you see your son could feel like a chore Sis', I'm sorry I'm your kin Sorry we ain't close as we should've been Sorry to my old friends The stories we coulda wrote if our egos didn't take the pen Sorry to the freaks I led on (nah, for real, I'm sorry) Who thought their life was gonna change 'cause I gave 'em head on But instead, I sped off, yeah, I know I'm dead wrong Sorry to the guys I had to hide (ooh) Sorry to the girls I had to lie to who ain't need to know if I was by the lake switchin' tides, too (tides) Anyway, I don't wanna talk (ooh) Sorry if you gotta dig for info I don't wanna give So you stalk, make up fibs, just to talk about my private life 'cause you're weird (Uh) Met that girl this year (but), that's none ya biz Give enough with my art, know your place My personal space, y'all don't need to to be a part I'm sorry I don't wanna link and small talk over dinner I don't even drink, can't guilt trip me, I'm ice cold, roller rink Nigga-nigga-nigga, read the room Don't assume niggas is cool Stay in your pocket, this is pool Blah, blah, blah, blah 'bout trauma You ain't special, everybody got problems, uh Sorry I'm not empathetic (nah, I'm fuckin'), sorry you think I'm pathetic Sorry I don't wanna bro down, sorry I don't know your pronouns I don't mean no disrespect, but, damn, we just met, calm the fuck down Oh, I'm out of touch and I'm a jerk? A bank account could never match my worth (that nigga gettin' money, he a dick now) Sorry Mother Earth, polluted air with chemicals and dirt These cars ain't gonna buy and drive themselves What the hell you think I work for? Not to not explore and stay the same (I'm) Sorry to the fans who say I changed, 'cause I did Sorry you don't know me on a personal level to pinpoint what it is I'm sorry to my ancestors (I'm so sorry), I know I'm supposed to fight (I know) But this ice shinin' brighter than a black man's plight, I'ma make it right In the meantime, I'll give some advice while these blood diamonds gettin' cleaned off Nigga, fuck the price, spend it then, then again, I can't save niggas I'm not Superman, but I could try I'm sorry I'm pretentious Sorry that the talent, knowledge, passion isn't missin' Sorry when I talk my shit and I could back it up with confidence it get you niggas trippin', man Fuck the numbers, fuck a hook You put me on a stage and I'll show you the difference Let me see y'all hit a stage (no, y'all can't do it) Let me see y'all write a page (y'all not gon' do it) Let me see you make a decision I made And claim that I don't know about minimum wage or Section 8 water in the ketchup bottle to stretch when niggas ate Gettin' pressed by niggas hoppin' gates Thinkin' it's normal 'cause you ain't supposed to make it past 18 or escape the Figure 8 cycle And I promise this is like a diet, I'ma make a way and I did, did feel good, work paid off, now we gon' celebrate But niggas claim you arrogant when they can't relate to moments of feelin' great So they aim, duck-duck-duck 'em Shot right back, buck-buck-buck 'em Sorry, not sorry (buck 'em, buck 'em) I got two words, fuck 'em
This is my imagery take. The man in the Uniform at the very beginning welcoming everyone in is Tyler's persona in the Sam is Dead video. The only hand the man in the uniform shakes is Lucas's. The curtains roll back and reveal all of Tyler's album personal. From left to right at 0:29; Flower Boy, Goblin, Cherry Bomb, Igor (in the very back), Call Me If You Get Lost, Bastard, (Tyler's personal persona, who we see in Sam Is Dead), and lastly, WOLF. At 1:42 you can see Tyler's 'Sam is Dead' persona leave the screen. One by one, the Flower Boy, Cherry Bomb, and IGOR album characters leave the screen, then seemingly being taken out by his 'Sam is dead' persona. Followed by his WOLF character. The only characters left that don't get "taken out" by his villain persona was the Bastard, Goblin, and his newest, Call Me If You Get Lost, persona, before being violently beaten to a bloody pulp by the original 'Sam Is Dead' persona, as a man who can only resemble the infamous father figure character known as Clancy (WOLF Haley), as he on-looks from what appears to be a viewing booth. This raises two questions I'm sure all of us have. For one, after hearing this theory, is Sam Dead? Was Sam Tyler's 'CMIYGL' persona? What was the significance of Clancy watching the "original" Tyler The Creator "kill" all of his more recent album personas? And two, was the order in which character was taken out significant? I don't think it's a coincidence.
Clancy has been through every phase of Tyler's life, thick and thin. Makes sense that cinematically he is the one watching The culmination of a new Tyler; be it destructive or graceful.
Lastly, the personas that remain are from albums old Tyler fans CONSTANTLY bring up, constantly saying old Tyler was better, to to me their lasting existence is like the stain that remains. All of the newer Tyler personas were the first to exit. Thats how I see it.
One day we’re all gonna be a lot older and look back at these masterpieces and they’re gonna take us back in time to a Time in life where these albums gave us refuge from whatever we were going thru . These albums rlly tell a great story that I think we all can relate to on some level . Thank you Tyler
This is fucking incredible. Each one of him is representing an album of his, a chapter of his life, a version of himself. And in this work they are all interacting and showing how different aspects of himself work together. The self awareness is TOP FUCKING NOTCH This is what art CAN BE A way to know yourself so intimately, your unique kaleidoscope expressed
Every album really did feel like Tyler coming into his own, slowly but methodically creating projects only he could bring to life. He absolutely earned the right to say he is truly being himself.
You know whats crazy, Tyler went from making vines & Creating a whole trilogy to absolute masterpieces like this and to be honest all his alter egos from the past years now really shows how much he is improving on his music, Not onlg that this genuinely made me cry real tears listening to this.
He’s so artistic, just in about 3 minutes he tells a whole story talking about his past seeing all of his past selfs and being sorry for the things he has done but he is also not sorry because look where he is now. Than at the end you see his “naked self” or his true self, killing the facade that everyone know as Tyler. This guy is just amazing.
Also there are 8 tyler's here but he has 7 albums in total, the killing at the end could just be to signal that a new album is coming by killing of Tyler Baudelair
the way he literally displays all of the album eras and how they slowly leave the scene really gives out a strong feel of improvement because it means that he is done with his mistakes and wants to be a better version of himself. I may not be a big fan of him, but I really felt the lyrics and video when i realised the true meaning. He is an extraordinary artist. Im gna listen to him more fr💯
@lewis_m btw i meant that literally means just that but he used as metaphorically, its just like if i say "you are literally a car" no you are not, you could be a figurative car, but its impossible to be a literal car, you are human not a car
I remember first hearing tyler in 2012 from my older brother and from then on ive been a massive fan. Everything hes ever done has been perfect and im not just talking about music. Im talking about his tv show, his brands, and his music. He was the first person that helped me realize it was okay to be the weird kid and that i wasnt alone. He helped me grow and mature as a person through these albums and i honestly cant wait for his next era❤
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
to culminate your whole discography into 3:22 while still telling a sublime story is mind blowing, i can’t explain in detail in enough time how much this song has effected me in such a short time and will continue to effect me, tyler is really 1 of 1, this is one of if not his best songs ever! thank you for making this piece art.
@Rach D. thats most likely not true. Its hard to say if he had them finished or not. I feel like he just wants to make a deluxe for the album because it was really good and he has more ideas for it.
Pardon me, excusez-moi (I'm sorry) Yeah, I coulda made a better choice, I mean, what the fuck? I'm sorry, I'm fucking sorry Yeah [Verse: Tyler, The Creator] I'm sorry, I'm sorry I don't see you more I'm sorry that the four minutes where you see your son could feel like a chore Sis', I'm sorry I'm your kin Sorry we ain't close as we should've been Sorry to my old friends The stories we coulda wrote if our egos didn't take the pen Sorry to the freaks I led on (Nah, for real, I'm sorry) Who thought their life was gonna change 'cause I gave 'em head on But instead, I sped off, yeah, I know I'm dead wrong Sorry to the guys I had to hide (Ooh) Sorry to the girls I had to lie to Who ain't need to know if I was by the lake switchin' tides, too (Tides) Anyway, I don't wanna talk (Ooh) Sorry if you gotta dig for info I don't wanna give So you stalk, make up fibs, just to talk about my private life 'cause you're weird (Uh) Met that girl this year (But), that's none ya biz Give enough with my art, know your place My personal space, y'all don't need to to be a part I'm sorry I don't wanna link and small talk over dinner I don't even drink, can't guilt trip me, I'm ice cold, roller rink Nigga-nigga-nigga, read the room Don't assume niggas is cool Stay in your pocket, this is pool Blah, blah, blah, blah 'bout trauma You ain't special, everybody got problems, uh Sorry I'm not empathetic (Nah, I'm fuckin') Sorry you think I'm pathetic Sorry I don't wanna bro down Sorry I don't know your pronouns I don't mean no disrespect But, damn, we just met, calm the fuck down Oh, I'm out of touch and I'm a jerk? the way this is shot at double the speed then slowed down makes for such an eerie feeling in all the gesture, perfectly matching the sample and lyrics.
Legit he dressed up as all of his albums and showed his backstory and apologized. killed his old selves, and showed the true him, this is one of the best music videos ever.
honestly he never says it literally on the lyrics (also a nice detail) but says it in the title, “SORRY NOT SORRY”. he’s not sorry for nothing of all of that, that’s all the things he was forced to do or criticized by the public for, but he knows and we know he was right about all of that. or for some verses at minimum he was being true to himself and being himself, always acting true to his feelings, and he’s not at fault for all that made him be who he is/was. truly this might aswell one of his best songs ever with the video
imo if his next album is thematically like this, he could lift himself up to the level of kendrick and such, this feels like something he wrote after listening to mr morale and the bigsteppers. we already know his musicality and quality of songs is there, but getting to know him for who he is with personal songs, is something that adds a lot of depth to everything he's done. he’s criticizing both collective and individual general criticisms and judgements. this song caught me in changing times and i’m obsessed with it
The lyrics of "Sorry Not Sorry" by tyler are about how he could have made a better choice, but instead, he sped off. He is sorry to his old friends, the freaks he led on, the guys he had to hide, and the girls he had to lie to. He is also sorry that he doesn't see his son more often, and that he is not empathetic and doesn't know his pronouns. Finally, he is sorry that he is out of touch and he is a jerk. The song "I'm Not Superman" is about a man who is not able to match his worth. He is sorry to his ancestors, to the fans who say he changed, and to the people who don't know him on a personal level. He promises to make it right and to give some advice while these blood diamonds get cleaned off. He also expresses his pride in his talent, knowledge, passion, and ability to talk his shit and back it up with confidence. He also claims that niggas claim he is arrogant when they can't relate to moments of feelin' great. Finally, he states that he is not Superman, but he can try to save niggas. He ends the song by saying, "Fuck the numbers, fuck a hook, and I got two words, fuck 'em."
golee, 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/10 vid bro im excited for the next album and i absolutely loved the storytelling and the meaning of everything, this fr a materpiece man, keep the bops coming.
The shirtless him is his true self. He’s artistically explaining/representing each album and saying he’s sorry for that stage of his life but his true self is coming through killing his regrets. This is a masterpiece
It's amazing how Tyler not only had all of these eras not only in the music video but in the song too: Bastard showing his potential in the beginning Goblin with the outburst rap style Wolf solidifying that he has a vision that's different Cherry Bomb with the smooth instrumental Flower Boy with him being vulnerable about his sexuality IGOR with the harmonies Baudelaire with the braggadocio after making it this far And shirtless Tyler talking about his real life issues as well as killing off all his alter egos at the end.
I don't think I've ever heard a song and just played it on repeat 5 times. The "real" Tyler the one not wearing a costume may be one of the first time in a long time that tyler has shown his hair as well. Sounds like he's ready to show the world who he's become and truly be proud of who he is, No costumes just an artist.
This song is incredible. Apologizing for all the things he did in the past but reminding everyone he's not sorry for overcoming his struggles. This is great😭😭
@bob boberson No, he's not sorry about the stuff he talks about when he switches his flow: overcoming section 8, minimum wage jobs, ect. He's admitting he was wrong about everything else. It's supposed to be a contrast of the good and bad thus far in his career.
@Josiah Excuse me, take a sec and listen to some of the records I've made , then give me ur honest opinion on it. I'd really appreciate it fam 💯. Have a great week.
I think Estate Sale was always part of the Album in the grand scheme of things. He let us have the best of his up coming and used this B side as a way to wrap up the album with a bow by killing his alter egos or personalities if that's how you want to look at his albums. His next project is going to be very interesting on how he approaches it. Who knows what personality will come forward. Although I recall not long ago him saying he isn't going to be making music much longer. I wouldn't be surprised if his next album will be his last for a long while.
@Silent Sage Excuse me, take a sec and listen to some of the records I've made , then give me ur honest opinion on it. I'd really appreciate it fam 💯. Have a great week.
I love how each persona was in the music vid and how there’s a piece of every era in the song. Wether it’s Sir Baudelaire talking his shit, Igor’s vocals, or goblins rough edgy little verse, it’s all perfect. The little pieces of every past album in here let the song seem like a grand opening to a well deserved finale for Tyler the creator. Also notice the order of which shirtless Tyler kills the others. Igor/flower boy are killed off screen, cherry bomb is seen being rushed for a split second. Then wolf is dragged off and goblin/bastard are then killed off screen as well. Why would he leave sir Baudelaire for last? Probably because sir Baudelaire is the most pretentious and egotistical of the bunch. Tyler is essentially killing his ego last. Once you kill your ego, a new transformation will occur…likely leading us to a new Tyler for the next album. I’m afraid this one might be his last because of it.
Theory: Notice how you see the people getting killed but not Igor? Example: Flower Boy looks to his right before being taken away. Cherry Bomb is being shown before being taken away. Every other persona of his is being shown BEFORE being taken away, but Igor must've seen shirtless Tyler killing the others, so he dissappeared. Kind of a stretch though...
Nice analysis I have a feeling he will now stray away from “Tyler the Creator” and just be “Tyler Okonma” he’s hinted to it and your analysis makes perfect sense
I’ve listened to this track like 10 times a day since it dropped. Maybe my new favorite Tyler track. He’s such a brilliant artist it’s insane. Love watching such a brilliant evolution.
I just love how every lyric sung by one alter ego fits their character. From Baudelaire both singing and acting egotistical flexing his chains and winking at the crowd that one time in the beginning and how every goblin verse was aggressive and the camera shaking when they came on and even flower boy’s verse was him talking about hiding his love interests and lying. I can’t stop watching the video.
This song speaks to me so much, some stuff I relate to heavily some parts u don't because I'm not successful, but it speaks to me in that his many personal problems aligns wit mine...this is also one of the best music videos, as an artist myself (aspiring manga artist) I love the pure creativity oozing out of this video, he has a passion for movies I believe? Makes sense why this is amazing...he is a real visionary, he is gonna be this generations defining musician I'd say.
[Intro: Tyler, The Creator & DJ Drama] Pardon me, excusez-moi (I'm sorry) Yeah, I coulda made a better choice, I mean, what the fuck? The fact that Igor never has a line makes me think that Igor was just merely a phase in which Tyler was just expressing his emotions that came to him and now he feels those feelings less as he has matured.
