I used Scream as a reference for a horror gender studies project I did. I used it as the first horror movie with a final girl and a final woman. Both Gale and Sidney process the Ghostface killings very differently from one another which is why their relationship throughout the franchise is so interesting

This is one of the few select movies that a Kill Count has gotten me to watch for myself, despite being a scaredy cat who cannot handle horror movies! Absolutely loved it, and James's love for the franchise is infectious. Billy and Stu were *absolutely* dating on the down-low.

Fun fact Rose McGowan (tatum) dressed herself in the movie for all her outfits, she did that because she didn't like the outfits they wanted her to wear (they wanted her to wear overalls and platform shoes and she didn't like it). Rose McGowan is not talked about enough honestly her performance in scream is so amazing and she's so charismatic.

In 1996 I walked into theater opening night barely knowing what it was gonna be, we all did, only thing we knew was it was gonna be horror and drew barrymore was gonna be the star, so seeing her brutally killed in the opening really set the tone, nobody knew which direction it was gonna, whether the killer was a supernatural killer like jason, freddy etc or a crazed human serial killer, going in we all knew only one thing and that was it gonna be something unique. Nobody knew anything while watching the movie first time viewing. And i really miss those days. Nowdays the trailers give out everything, or people spoil shit, heck even ppl that give theories and dont spoil but just pick apart rumors and trailers can even ruin the movie. I miss the days nobody could analyze shit and theres no leaks or spoilers, you just go into a movie with barely any info but know your gonna get hooked right in.

The only character that should live minimum 3 flicks in a slasher franchise is the slasher. It becomes predictable. I honestly think one of my favorite parts of this movie, at least in terms of the greatness of simple face acting, is when Gale's re-gale-ing Kenny with the idea of Cotton being innocent, and Kenny has that little smile of "Oh, hey, maybe she's not so bad!" I love Matthew Lillard in this movie. I recall watching the movie once with the commentary playing and there was a moment where Kevin Williamson mentioned how his performance actually added a lot to Stu's character because there wasn't really all that much to him in the original script.

Funworld is amazing for letting them use the mask without much hassle. Many Scream fans love Ghostface mask. The combination of characters into 1 is what I find interesting. Fun worlds mask, voice actor of ghostface, actor playing ghost face, and the stunt double! It's amazing!

I love the way they turn the tables in the ending scene! In Slashers, the killer has all the power, all the speed, all the smarts, and all the luck. Once Billy & Stu took off the masks, they lost that power. When Sid found the costume, she gained all that power. Slashers become the Slashees!

I still go back to watch that scene. The first film is good overall but that final act is MINDBLOWING. Everything from 'we all go a little mad sometimes' is PEAK cinema.

The final act is the best part of the movie besides the opening, while Stu is still having a hell of time enjoying the scene, Billy is far more chilling and sociopathic so in point he didn't mind stabbing his partner deeply to frame him along with Sidney's father as the killer. A acting
