I like how this immediately went from a "ROAST MY STAFF'S RIGS" video to a "guess which staff member these rigs belong to" and honestly, it was way more fun that way.
Man, I use a pad that is like 20 by 26 centimeters and then still vertically cause I don't need more than the 20 centimeters horizontally, and I even use a 21:9 monitor. - And no, I don't use some freakishly high dpi or sensitivity, just a very balanced sweet-spot. I have no issue with both pixel-precision or shooting the cursor to any side or corner of the screen at a flick of the wrist. - I just don't understand. Do people turn everything down and then move their entire forearm?... I don't know about anyone else, but my wrist allows my hand to pivot and my fingers can expand and contract. - But anyway, I could get away with a mousepad of about 20x15 or even 15x15 and still keep my mouse on the pad with the range I use. - It's ironic how tech and gamer people want all that efficiency, but then supposedly use so much travel in their mouse-movement.
Back when I used pads instead of mats i defaulted to vertical because I have insanely long but skinny hands and used a SUPER high mouse sensitivity, so I did it to have equal space on all sides of my mouse. Never gave it much thought, but it made OCD and ADHD brains agree that it was good so I ran with it
@Pettie95 not sure what me taking care of my stuff and not buying the literal cheapest stuff available has anything to do with orientation here lol. Between work and gaming/browsing; im quite literaly on my pc for 10-12 hours a day. I even gave the caveat of my grip potentially being a factor. If your mousepads are getting destroyed to the point of noticeable wear where you have to do shenanigans to make it useable again... then stop buying the cheapest walmart mousepads you can find or simply replace them more often lol. Either way...
@JgHaverty ̈ that's a weirdly definitive and single-minded way to look at it. I can tell you from personal experience with 3 brothers and not enough PCs that the mouspad can get worn down from wrist wear. And especially if the pad is square, not rectangular, then it makes no difference which side is up. Plus, depending on the pattern of the pad, it may not have a true "up" side, one with a face on is clear, one with abstract colours can be whatever orientation.
My assumption is that it is quite the intrepid motive of Konrad to disclose such a confession of considering one's attention to webcasts of the video game colloquially referred to as "Dota" while engaging in commissioned assignments.
Thank you so much for pointing that out! I really sat here for 15 minutes when I only intended to be here for five minutes as I needed to study for my college exam tomorrow. WOOPS!
After watching this video, I cleaned up my desk and removed some of the junk and put them where they belong. I also rearranged my cable management. Thank you Linus!
As a person who uses high dpi, I only need a small mouse pad. And I have it vertically as well because I don't move side to side much, but I do scoot my chair in and out different amounts.
same, it's so weird to be as hostile as them about mousepads of all things, considering that there are many different ways that people feel comfortable using a mouse. Mine's 'vertical' but it's solid black so there is no 'up' to it. I have a high DPI and a small desk. I also don't move side to side often, but like you I do sometime lean forward when gaming - and sometimes I lean back more for watching videos. That extra vertically of my pad makes it so I don't have to adjust it's position all the time.
My favorite setup was an ikeas double desk office setup behind the home theatre chairs facing the large tv. All cables hidden. I could work and keep an eye on the little ones.
lol IKR! shit man just bake that into business costs, and also give people some money to build or buy a pc. If your company is all about computers that'll stop people from boosting from work.
28:36 I used to do the same, i did it because horizontally it was a bit to narrow and my wrist touched the table, so vertically it is usually more comfortable. I have now a new one (which is also pretty small compared to those.)
all those placed Pads are from Shooter Folks: like this its enough place to pull back the mouse because the Recoil. some nice Setups, and some funny ones too. thank you
@JJiG Huh? No, it definitely was not. Apperantly, you're new and it really shows. Luke, was hired since the beginning of LMG. But, ok. If you say so. Lmfao. And, the mineral pc build, was definitely not the beginning of LMG.
jeez that laptop destroys my pc on ez mode. edit: this makes me feel a lot better about myself. my cable management is trash, my setup is cluttered, my dogs' fur is everywhere, it's dusty, and I sweat a lot, but I somehow still come out better than most of these in all those areas lmao. Even with clutter, if it's not comfortable, I can't work.
@Matasa Magic eraser might damage it, too. At least if used too often. It works by being a fine abrasive, like sandpaper almost, and breaking away the stained parts but can wear out the other parts it gets rubbed on.
Are we going to get a Staff-Reacts video to this video? I was imagining the staff sitting in the staff loung watching it all together for the first time - that would be awesome to see.
Wait, hold up a second. Am I plain stupid or isn't Arlo Sarahs Cat? Because I know this cat was in Sarahs Intel Tech Upgrade video. Or do they both just have very similar looking cats? Or are they together? Did I miss smth? XD
It could be that people at LMG knows Arlo really well and the cat is either Sarah's or Jake's, and one simply let the cat live on each other's house or maybe even other LMG employee's house whose owner loves cats
man I hope they get it, especially Emily. You'd think her job would kinda require. or maybe she IS like that at work but at home she's like #@%! it lolz
@Micheal Valois Came here looking for this haha. If this is true: Jake looks like a nice guy so good for Sarah, and Jake?, the man scored an ace there!
"Is that a bone saw?" No Linus, it's a carpentry saw for cutting out wood joinery, like dovetails. I got one myself, among with other assorted joinery tools, which makes sense as I'm a cabinet maker apprentice. Idk why Sam Vafaei have a Japanese look-a-like Dozuki (look-a-like as that teeth count is way too high) as a dev analyst, but judging from these setups, Idek anymore..
Tim Holowachuk, man, I have a feeling all mechanical engineers are deformed in the same way, because if I had the space and money, my setup looks exactly like this. That "work place", right next to PC, divided yet still connected, everything right in the drawer, everything else on the wall, I love it.
Seeing that chassis at 24:17 brings a tear to my eye. I used it in my first ever PC build 20 years ago, and I distinctly remember how much I craved that Thermaltake tower.
@Disco I'd argue that Anthony is worse in this case because he is in *every* video and kinda got this egotistical feel to things, which isnt the main issue This isnt even a Anthony-type video
My theory with the sideways mousepad is they liked the vertical swipe feeling more then the horizontal swipe feeling and turned em, but idk why anyone would do that
Gotta say, I often orientate the mousepad vertical to reduce horizontal workspace as well. It's a funny gag to bag on it, but the truth is that it's more ergonomically sound. Your arms will be more squared to the body and cause less shoulder and back strain by keeping a more natural span of control over your peripherals. ❤
Since this seems to be increasingly difficult,, what about going through the building and performing another person’s job for the day. I think editing would be super interesting. Luke has to do it too
7:54 I'd love to have a Blu-ray drive! But every time I try to find one it seems like the 'best' ones were made in, like, 2013-2015, might (or might not) be able to play/burn Blu-rays that are 100 GB and cost at least $80 and might not even be on the market any longer (depending on which thread I follow). So yeah.
@LocustSaddle And thats sad He should be back more often Then again, Linus doesnt even know his own staff, including the people he actually knows personally and not just the boss of.
Love how Luke goes to protect his friend from looking like an ass to the audience, but then throws him under the bus when he doesn’t get the answer right away
I bought a ton of those MoCA adapters to get wired Ethernet through the coaxial through my house and they were one of the best investments I made, but the use of the home vacuum one is next level. Though I do use my home vacuum so I wouldn't be able to do it.
I had to turn my mousepad vertical when I starting playing Doom Eternal on Ultra Nightmare. The amount of vertical movement you have to do in that game while targeting and tracking at dozens of enemies in all directions efficiently made me keep running out of room on the mousepad vertically but horizontally It was easier to flick my wrist, lift it up and recenter it on the mousepad instinctively. So it was actually like "Woah I'm not the only one who's crazy" kind of a moment when I saw these people with vertical mousepads. Although it was also nice to know that if I worked at LTT, I would be fired 😂
Some mousepads have different speeds horizontally and vertically, so in some cases, it's very viable to turn them 90 degrees. Not these crappers tho. : D
26:05 could you imagine explaining to unemployment why you got fired, and having to tell them my boss did not like the way my mouse pad faced hahahahahahaha!!!
7:32 they both missed that the monitor stand was installed backwards (that's what it's originally there for, even though it isn't being used for that purpose in this case), so the exposed edge of the particle board is facing out. That would have been worth a roast
I know there can be some slight variation between led manufacturers, but I would love to know what color code Nick P. used for his PC with the FF7 stickers! Looks so cool, just like Mako! I can't seem to get the right combo of green and blue myself.
Interesting to see how the developers clearly have much nicer homes and better living situations in general, like living with their parents. Meanwhile Linus talks about owning multiple houses.
I also run my Mouse pad in portrait. Playing Apex I find that I run out of arm flexibility faster in the width direction than the height direction. Portrait solves that for me nicely.
I never thought about mouse pad orientation before this. I defaulted to vertical because I have insanely long but skinny hands and used a SUPER high mouse sensitivity, so I did it to have equal space on all sides of my mouse
Vacuum conduit to run Ethernet is a smart idea! Back when I lived at home we had the tubing for central vac in the house, but never had a central vac. Rather than trying to rip holes thru the walls, I could just feed cabling down from the 2nd to 1st floor to basement easily. I mean, if it's not being used, why not?
Dude, when I saw einhander on David’s screen that brought back memories. I had a copy of that game I got from Pizza Hut or something and it was only a demo. I spent 10 years looking for that game before I finally found it. And I played the shit out of it. Square Enix did a lot of cool stuff.
