Rats are the most predominant terrestrial food source for bass. Because of humans rodents have exploded in their population making them go into water more frequently especially at night. I found that rats can be very territorial and they will chase other rats out of their territory for competition. In places like the San Diego River I've seen bass position themselves on rodent highways as I call it and wait for a rat to come close enough to the water that the bass knows it can just jump out and eat it. I've seen similar behavior with dragonflies. they're not afraid to jump out of the water to cream these rodents or insects. I remember last summer I was on the float tube on the river throwing the black king daddy frog and I was going along the bank while I was looking at a stretch of reeds with the fallen tree I saw a big rat scurrying across a branch a couple inches of the water on one of these logs and a big fish I'm assuming was probably four to six pounds crushed it and slammed it back in the water and ate the rat. It was one of the most insane experiences I've seen fishing. The rat body was probably 8-10in in length. And I can see why the bass positioned himself there. If I was a bass I'd want to expend as little energy as possible getting food and if I could wait in one spot and wait for the food to come to me. all I had to do was jump out and grab it and while the rat wasn't expecting it. It's a very easy meal for big bass.

This past summer when i was in NY for a fishing trip i had tied on a rat, but waited until the last day of the trip to throw it. I threw it as a joke and because i made a bet with a friend that id catch a fish on it. Long story short the freaking rat got demolished. I caught 7 largemouth and 3 big smallmouth after dark on this thing. Now its apart of my tackle box every day during the warm season!

Sorry can't agree that bass recognize a lure as any animal especially when the lure - a swimming rodent - moves totally unnatural because of the plastic bill. A majority of lures look and move unnaturally yet provoke fish to bite them. The one in the video is hopefully of such a design that it's worth buying and works in most waters fished.

Hellyeah, fresh TXC content. This is a great refresh / addition to your old rodent vid. I've got a Micro Mink from the pre-order headed my way, what's the stock crank-down ability of them? Thanks, sir.

@Sid .Mohorovich I will probably try some pinch weights / split shots on the hook shanks to get a little more crank down out of it. Thanks for your input :)

Ian Kehler i think hed said similar to wake n crank. With a little weight tuning with hooks and rings they should crank on a slow retrieve even

I literally have always said a rat bait is just a wake bait. This has me really rethinking that theory...
