In this video I play a rapid chess game against fellow Twitch Streamer vengaard_live (www.twitch.tv/vengaard) who is a relatively new to chess- only been playing for ~3 months! In the game, I unleash the Ponziani Opening and proceed to show no mercy. I hope this game provides some instructional value when it comes to exploiting common beginner mistakes and using basic tactics to seize the advantage. Towards the end of the game (once I achieved a decisive material advantage) I put more of my focus towards answering various questions from the Twitch Chat. After the game, I provide some basic tips and advice and show how black could have improve the opening play against the Ponziani.

Why am I finding all of his moves before him and even better ones when he is IM and I'm 700 elo player who most of the time blunders queens and loses some matches to other 700 elo players? I also don't see these kinds of moves when i play.. I don't know a single opening btw I just move pieces.. Can someone explain?

Why didn't knight go to a7 at 11:38?
Gregory Farr
Gregory Farr 14 gün önce
At 7:38 why not Knight F7? It forks both rooks and the queen, it also is a discovered attack on the queen from the bishop on F4.

I don't think chess inherently improves concentration, more like concentration improves how you play chess. Chess rewards certain behaviors and types of thoughts and gives you reasons and encouragement to learn how to focus, but it's not chess=concentration. But it is a good motivator or a means to try and improve, similar to how trying to improve in a sport ends up making you work out and focus on your physical build more

wow I saw better moves for black
Det Rusty Guardrail Bear
Real question... why not use the queen to take his first rook to put him in check instead of your bishop? If you used the queen, then there’s no chance of the king moving in front of your bishop to protect his hanging bishop. Which leads me to my next question,,, since he moved the king to B8 anyway, why not pickup his bishop with your queen right away?

Hey at 11:37 why dint you play knight A7 then queen D7 after the check?
Det Rusty Guardrail Bear
Well because king was already on c8 at that point so, although it would result in check, once he moved the Qd7, the king wasn’t mated anyway since he could move closer to the knight checking him. So by doing it the way he did, he was able to trade a single knight for a knight, a rook, and if he used his queen to take the rook instead of his bishop, he would have guarenteed that the king moves b8 instead of being able to protect his bishop by moving d8. Then the queen could scoop the bishop as well. This 3 pieces of equal and higher values is devastating since the mate wasn’t there right away in either option. (King ended up moving to b8 anyway, but for some reason he didn’t take the bishop right away.)

Wouldn't a bishop C8 queen D8 win the game sooner? If the king moved from check then take b8 with queen and check mate.

So just stumbled on this: but do you just play "complex and hope for blunders" or are you playing with a strategic point? Slightly moot question on such insanely fast speeds: you don't even have time to *say* what you play. Let alone think a few good moves ahead.

It’s a shame that Vengaard missed that the Queen was subject to uncovered attack. I thought maybe he’d seen it when attacking the Queen with the pawn. Ok he still had the worst of it until then but avoid the Queen issue and it’s still competitive
