This was recorded in her home. The guitarist, hired by her uncle Mike is Ivan Mendez, a proffesional musician/student. He would go over to her house and they would record songs. Many they both just learned. The microphone is a Neumann microphone model TM-102. She got it for her 12th birthday. They both had just learned this song. Her looking to the right is her reading the words. This was recorded on their second take. He screwed up the tempo in the first take. I saw an interview with him and he said she was so unbelievable that somtimes he would get lost in her voice and would mess up but she would always be very nice and remind him of the arrangement then they would do it again. I love the little details behind the songs and I hope I relay them accurately. Have a great day guys!

Here is a bit of info on why we love Angelina even more. When Angelina was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age in Iran. The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Angelina then “vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them.” She keeps that promise to this day, as she says that little girl “is always in my heart.”
I've always loved this song myself. When I saw Angelina had covered it, I was very hopeful that she would live up to the original. I don't know why I was even questioning it. She not only lived up to the original, she (as she often does) surpassed it IMO. No disrespect to rihanna (she's the one that made me love the song in the first place), but at only 12 years old, Angelina sat down with her guitarist (Ivan Mendez) and was able to add so much depth and character to this vocal. She gave it a new feeling that I never got from it before. It's just staggering the talent this girl has.
Staggering is a really good adjective to describe the experience so many feel when listening to Angelina. I am so used to listening to just about only Angelina and loving her singing, smiles, and caring,… she brings me into the music so deeply and respectfully.

Someone has to be the best singer you’ve ever heard. For many of us, it’s Angelina. I believe the slight mix-up on the lyrics has nothing to do with English being Angelina’s second or third language. This was one of her frequent informal sessions with her guitarist where Angelina is just going where her musicality takes her, reading the lyrics off her phone. There are many videos created just like this one. Although this is, for me, the best version I’ve ever heard of Stay, my favorite in this setting is her staggering cover of Adele’s “A Million Years Ago.” Angelina doesn’t just interpret the lyrics-she brings you along with her, and you relate to the lyrics with memories from your own life and experience. I believe Angelina was 11 or 12 for A Million Years Ago. That’s the performance, completely informal and unrehearsed, that made me realize that a very young child was the best singer I’ve ever heard.

In my humble opinion, by the time AJ finishes her musical career, she will become the greatest musical prodigy in history. Yes! she has been arranging the music from an early age, same as Mozart. And yes! she has been vocalizing since a toddler, but what sets her apart from every other musician, is that she rearranges the music, based on the vibrations, so that when she puts her vocals on top of the vibrations, the same song that we've heard a thousand times before, we feel it brand new and so much better than the original version. Pedro, you are absolutely correct. The only singer in my opinion that was like her is Eva Cassidy. At age 16 Angelina is almost leveling Eva at twice the age. Angelina still is a bit behind in the gospel kind of voice and "beautiful" voice. But in blues, rock, pop, jazz she is at same level or better.
There is so much in the way she expresses. So much more than you thought was possible. She sounds like she lived it and wrote the song and its the profound expression of her heart as well. And she is a child basically. I was thinking its like a Shakespearean actor brings so much to the character when they perform and she seems a music version of that same supreme elegance and power elevated above mere mortals. Whatever poetry is to words her voice is to sound. We are amazing as a race that we incudes someone like this.

One of my first thoughts when I first heard Angelina was, I now have reason to believe that Homer’s sirens in the Odyssey may have been less of a fable than previously thought.
You guys are incredibly in-tune with Angelina's artistry. I felt the same way hearing it the first time, how a young person can sound so smoky, soulful and so educated; but its all God-given. This little girl has a true gift that we will sin in adoring. We shouldn't have idols, but if we did, her voice would be one.

You’ll notice in most her songs she closes her eyes a lot, when asked why she said in an interview when she was around 8 that when singing and eyes are closed she goes to another world where everything is beautiful, that world is probably what you experienced when you closed your eyes, I’ve noticed a lot of the reaction about her in the comments say she with her emotional singing transports them there. Even at 7 one of the judges on NGT said she had the unique ability to emote emotion through song. She is truly a gift. Luckily she had a strong support system to guide her from the many vultures of the music industry, money is not what motivates Angelina like she told the little orphan girl when she was 6 “ I just want to sing for the world “ and the little girl said she’d pray for Angelina.

Thanks for a lovely reaction. I have seen this cover by Angelina a lot of times, but it still amazes me, like many other of her songs. It's funny when Kaya said "is it a special microphone" I came to think of a reactor named Sandy, who maked her first reaction to this by Angelina and she didn't believe what she heard and that there might be some effect on the microphone. She then found a song with the same guitarist and without a microphone. Here she learned that it was Angelina's voice. Today this reaction by Sandy has been viewed over 1 million times. After seeing Kaya's reaction to Angelina, it will be exciting to see her react to other of Angelina's songs.
It's not just a change of melody, she changes the phrasing (for lack of a better term). She pauses at different times on some sentences, other than the original artist, which somehow brings a different 'feel/meaning' to the lyrics. What she does, in some ways, brings a different meaning to some parts of the song. She's truly talented!
I just loved this reaction.All of them... As far as English not being her first language , she has been fluent in english from a relatively young age...and speaks it in an American dialect.... I'm from Southern California and she sounds like a native to me....My point being understanding English is never a barrier for her...

Notice that she is reading the lyrics from an Ipad. Ivan Mendez, the guitarist, says that they shot most of their sessions on the first or second try. Neither did they rehearse or plan for what songs to do, it is more of a jam session. There is a great interview with him about it. The other songs they did are also absolute gold.

Guys Angelina has 3 brand new videos out. “Suspicious Minds” an Elvis Cover has been released is on her official channel. It is an incredible rendition and a great video. There are also 2 videos from her live concert in Norway last week, “Bohemian Rhapsody” from Queen and “I have Nothing” from Whitney Houston. She had previously done both songs at age 13. Now you can experience them from 16 year old Angelina in a live concert. The growth, maturity, stage presence, professionalism and confidence in all 3 videos is amazing. She looks stunning and all 3 are must watches.

Yeah something about this one. Feel kind of the same way about her Adele cover 'million years ago'. Similar time period, same guitar guy. So strange, the most impressive control and range any teen could ask for, and it's pieces like those instead where it is less about insane talent and more about whatever it is she's doing to us when she sings more subtly. Feels more like her take on a song maybe I don't know. Maybe the high notes, belts and runs are too impressive and distracting from the feel sometimes. Maybe her artistry is just above most of us, and that's why we don't know how to explain any of it, maybe it shines through more in her soft lower register. Those vocal gymnastics maybe more digestable this way, I do notice in some of her songs she does incredibly difficult and seemless gymnastics all the same, even while belting, but it takes me countless times to notice all the nuances, and not every time am I transported elsewhere. Think she was 12. Maybe music was meant to be a little less over done and over produced than it is done these days.

There are 2 spots in " Million Years Ago," where Angelina sings the lyric "I miss mother," just by the way she sings the word "mother" conveys such profound emotion, and she varies it slightly each time. Amazing.
@Fred Neecher thanks man. Just checked one out when she was 10 or so, outdoors. Less my style but undoubtably another one of those something about it's. Crazy she had these skills at 10. I kind of knew that already, but further confirmation in a different style. Everything was already there and is really just constantly fine tuned since. The video was really cool. Her stage presence was similar to her agt performances.

I agree with you Ryan. Angelina is best when she's just singing on her own with maybe a simple guitar accompaniment. As for the stripped back, soft sound, it's hard to beat Every Time We Say Goodbye in my opinion.
Angelina was 12 here. A wonderful experience might be reacting to Angelina's interpretation of. "I'm a fool to want you," at age 7 and then as a teenager (at maybe 13 or 14). It is very rewarding. She lets the genie out of the bottle. Fantastic.

Angelina you did it again, your music moves me in a way, that only one other artist has, that artist was Elvis. I can't believe how much emotion and passion comes out of your songs, some people say you are a once in a generation singer. @fred5784 I get what you are implying, but there are many videos of her singing without a mic, with just a cellphone, with the same quality and richness of voice. If the purpose of using the microphone was to apply any kind of process, they would have started by removing the breathing noises we hear that are usually removed first in post-production. What this microphone received a few months ago for her 12th birthday brings is the capture of all the nuances of her voice, even the breathing.

I've heard Angelina's version of this song many times and I just noticed something. There's no "compression" on her vocals. This is not the usual studio recording where the music is processed and has all kinds post production effects added. This is just her voice and a guitar and microphone and a video camera. This gives it a live feel.
Sweet reaction..nice to see the 3 of you together. Ivan (Mexican/American living in LA) sent audition tapes to Angelina in Norway. After Angelina's family moved to LA (2018) Ivan would come to Angelina's place after work (notice Ivan's work shirt) and jam. They would discuss songs and pick some to play that day. Sometimes Ivan had not heard them before, so after some practice, they would record (often just one take). Alan Papier interviewed Ivan Mendez for his TRvid channel. Very enlightening and revealing of who Ivan is.
How nice to have your beautiful sister with you. I liked the otherworldly sound Angelina put in her voice. This was the first time I have heard Rihanna and it was pretty. For me the difference was simply that Angelina's voice is multi threaded while Rihanna's is more simple. Love your sister's reaction. You were talking about Angelina's first language being Norwegian. Have you ever listened to someone speaking Norwegian? It's one of the sing songy languages along with Swedish. When they speak they literally sound like the are singing.

It's so intriguing to see somebody respond initially the way I did when I first heard her. Angelina was only 12 in this video and she has many more that are like this. If you like the venue and the setting, a million years ago by Adele was the very first song I ever heard by Angelina. It is even more emotional than this. Another is Born to die by Lana del Rey. Those folks make great reactions in a similar setting to this. No production, just her voice and a guitar. Angelina is 12 here. She had just received this wonderful Neumann microphone for her 12th Bday (01/10/2018), and shortly after that she headed to LA. Within a couple of months she met Ivan Mendez (guitarist) and they recorded three of my favorite Angelina performances in April/May. "Stay" is one of them, and I have listed the other two below:' You can tell the setting is the same but her top is different each time. The acoustics are Fabulous! Slows it way down, acoustic guitar only, and gives it a bluesie, jazz vibe, and Voila! A brand-new song. And her tone is ethereal. STUNNING!! @Roger Carrière Maybe so, but I've never seen a video of her actually singing that song. And none posted during the two month time period of these three songs (April/May 2018). The recording is very good, and it seems like it's Ivan on guitar, but as I said, I've never actually seen her performing this song as she was in the other three. Maybe you have that video link or can tell me how to access it.
