When Zach talks about harvesting power from the sun, he sounds like an evil scientist that has learned to hide his evil laugh!

adding a battery backup to my array definitely increased the cost a lot, but the first time the neighborhood lost power and i only noticed when i saw everyone else’s house dark... priceless.

One other thing to think about is when you mount the solar panels on the roof it keeps your roof cooler in the summertime so your house does not get as hot.

I guess allowing the batteries to discharge to the house could significantly reduce the mileage of the vehicle.

Can't wait for the 30 year update...literally, that'll put me in my 90's....if I'm that lucky ;)

Thank you for sharing, Zack! Very useful, as we are threading towards renewables in terms of mini usage way faster, where we are not critically dependable on the energy, like cars, bikes and hybrid systems at home

As long as these solar panels scratch at a level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7, then yes, it’s absolutely worth it!!

My state actually allows Power companies to charge a penalty for using solar panels. To add insult to injury Alabama Power only pays "avoided costs" for energy you send back to the grid.

Pretty cool. I really like these videos, probably more than the durability tests and tear downs. All are great but this one was best.

Hallo Jerry. First off, thanks for the great and interesting videos!! I live in Germany and we pay € 0,32 per Kw/H (that's the most expensive in the whole of Europe). We're getting a ton of sun here in the south of Germany but with the cost of the solar system and installation, the shortest time to get even is about 10 to 12 years. Most of the insentives from the government have been scrapped and you will pay full price for the system. The amount you get back for every Kw/h you put in the grid is a joke (under €0,05 and keep in mind we PAY € 0,32 per Kw/h) so it seems the German government is actually actively discuraging people from going for Solar. The initial costs and long payback time are not woth it to a lot of people. A shame really.....

Hello Jerry, your solar system both before and after videos are great! Can you show us little more on off grid system installation, add batteries into the system and also a transfer switch from solar back to the utility company? Thank you!
MobileChaos
Battery backups for Solar has been traditionally for off grid living, however the reality is that the power company doesn't store the energy you send to them and they have to produce the energy you get back from them. It does put a burden on the energy company to either use all this excess power they didn't produce during the day, and provide power to those who were sending the excess power to them at night. This is one of the reasons to store your own power, so you don't have to rely on the fossil fuel energy that the power company will send back and you are not as much of a burden to the grid.

I watched this whole video at 1x, great work man! I've had solar panels for over 4 years and I learnt more about them in this video than I ever knew 😂

Does this have a noticeable effect on the life of the room? I would think the pa els shielding the roof from direct exposure to sunlight and rain would mean it will last longer.

my parents also recently for solar panels (non DIY) and they say it's 100% worth it it! also their company pays them the energy they didn't use which can range around 8k$ (at least)! there's no reason not to get them in my opinion.

This is so encouraging to see. I love that solar is taking off and becoming a more viable option for people

Clear and informative - thanks for making this video! Looking forward to the day when Teslas can do V2G and vehicle to vehicle, so we can rescue each other when needed.

Love you channel and really excited to see how Cambry is doing on your channel. I loved her Living Beyond "What If?" video from Hope Works. Just curious what your thoughts are on nuclear power? I'm all for using everything we can to produce electricity, but I'm not convinced solar is the end all solution I think we need a more holistic approach to getting the energy we need for the planet as a whole. Just want to be totally transparent here I'm a nuclear engineer from Utah working to promote nuclear the same way solar has been promoted for the last 20 years :)
