I didn't get to see this live... he didn't get a concussion from this? I seen his back up was in but been working tons of overtime and didn't follow up... there is no way he wasn't concussed... if he were a lesser of a big name and ratings/ticket sales draw would've been diagnosed concussion... I've had a few and as soon as tou see the eyes you can tell
It's kill kill kill at 100 mph but once somebody is visibly hurt, then it's truly a brotherhood.. nobody wants to see anybody get hurt 9 out of 10 *cough*, Romanowsky cough*
@DKMoney Better than having players get needlessly injured. Have the games on Friday night at the start and end of the year. It makes more sense anyway
Look how far Sermon dips his head before contact. If he keeps his HEAD UP like you're supposed to, there would be no helmet contact at all. The penalty SHOULD have been on Sermon for initiating the helmet contact. And I'm a Washington fan, so I f'ing HATE the Eagles.
@@monroemullinix5974 He got hit in the side of the head right before that, which caused his whole body to pitch forward. That elbow probably scrambled him and he was just moving on inertia after that point.
except with a potential head or neck injury it's probably best they leave him to be attended to by the medical staff, in case the player needs to be immobilized as opposed to picking him up taking him to the sideline.
@@alextoyalex that's the thing that always makes me nervous, it's obviously good to be a supportive teammate but you have to be so careful with head and neck injuries
Repent to Jesus Christ! “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12 NIV H
I played football though high school, some in college before I switched to rugby. The first thing I learned after switching was just how little football players know about tackling lol they just dive in, often times head first. There are much safer and effective ways to tackle that won’t lead to a concussion every time there’s a hit.
I totally agree. I played both rugby and football when I was younger (born and raised in France so rugby has a better level but football is obviously worst than in the us), and tackling is non-sense in football! They could be way more effective, still delivering big hits without endangering themselves like that! Kids should watch rugby players like Chabal, literally breaking jaws without even touching the head of the opposing player. Ands that’s also why players looking like receivers can bring down players looking like 350lbs linemen without any problem
The issue isn't all down to poor tackle technique (although that is a factor). The problem is also in the rules in that the runner gets credit for how far they fall in the tackle, and in a game of inches that's critical. A rugby tackle is all about using the runner's own momentum to bring them to the ground. Giving up a few extra yards to do that is acceptable. In football however a 2yd run is a failure, a 4yd run is a success. If you want to encourage safer tackling in football there needs to be a change in how yards after contact is assessed. How you do that without completely neutering the run game is beyond me.
@@davidheard3964 totally agree with your point, not allowing an extra yard or two is critical in football, especially with the run game. As you said, you don’t want to allow those extra yards and give up a first down Rugby tackling, imo, can be more useful when you think of defensive backs just acting as big rocks trying to hit the receiver, only to bounces off and allow 20 more yards or a touchdown
Man that hit on Mahomes was scary, he means so much to that franchise, it was amazing to see his entire team surround him and bring him to the side. God bless all these players for all they do.
Taylor Lewan was horrifying to watch on live tv, and then to see that Ryan Shazier had tweeted his support just made it worse; Lewan's career wasn't abruptly ended like his, but I cannot imagine seeing that happen to someone else after experiencing something like that myself. I would be shocked if that didn't at least spark some kind of ptsd on Shazier's part.
I can’t imagine the guilt that you carry after causing an injury. Like, if I ever get in the NFL and I hit someone and they’re carted off I’d be crying for that guy, cuz I wouldn’t want to cause someone’s career to end like this.
I understand these hits are actually dangerous and sometimes even life threatening, but when for example a safety/or cornerback is running at a receiver whom the defense doesn’t know if they are going to make the catch or not and if they miss it, it’s kinda hard to stop or change directions when your running at someone that fast.
@@ThePJzzz except if you keep your head up you are going to cause neck injuries to yourself on any sort of contact. Your body is low and your head is high, your head plants into their chest you are going to feel that so much. That is virtually a guarantee if you do that. Not even that, if you are going for the hit to break up the pass, you have to go directly for them. You will not have time to change direction, especially if you are midair already. It’s literally impossible to change direction or slow yourself down without having your feet on the ground
Watching the Cowboys Giants game live, it was scary seeing Jones stumble. But when I was watching I assumed he had spit on his mouth, but now I think he bit through his lip 🤕
That dude that pulled Leaven off the ground at first made me so mad! Clearly the guy wasn’t ready to get up and he didn’t have his hand out for help or anything. What if it had been a neck injury that could have been made worse by that? Or a broken bone?
Man, the way some of these players collapse after general head collisions is terrifying. Maybe the camera angles don’t show every crucial angle, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many in a season regardless.
I love the bengals and watching burrow running the ball is bitter sweet. I hate to see him run like that but also love the determination he has as a young QB.
@@trombonekingdom yes, there’s a chance he never comes back from a torn ACL, especially if it’s a serious one. People don’t realize how bad a soft tissue injury is until they experience jy
I know they've given QBs a lot more, maybe too much protection -- but man as a whole the game is just as brutal as its ever been. Can't say that about other leagues.
@@reedeayers I agree with you and Meow. Even though the the rules have gotten tougher and stricter over time, that's almost canceled out by the bigger, faster and stronger people you mentioned. So fascinating.
they use the smallest lightest padding they can. people are the same size if not smaller in many positions. but the pads have got smaller and smaller. look back when d players wore collars. and receiver wore larger wider pads so they wouldnt ruin a shoulder. and now let me accuse nike of not caring about player safety so they can sell brightly colored over priced copies of player and team shoes that dont work as well as they claim on the "new" surfaces. fake grass and dirt. stick a cleet into that and get hit, goodbye season.
I'm a cowboys fan, but I honestly kind of felt bad for the giants in that game. they lost like 4 players to injury edit: including danny dimes and saquon
Two times I got extremely worried: Davonte Adams gets hit in the head by 49’s guy, and that big hit the cardinals did after the packers guy got the punt.
Prayer to the affected and the rest of the league! We’ve seen soooo many injuries already, I hope everyone can be safe for the remainder of the season!
My dad used to play a lot of highschool football back in the 70's and he got a lot of concussions. His memory to this day blows. Not major, but he forgets a lot of obvious things. I played football too in HS but i never played college. Plus i was a D-end so i wasn't really in danger.
yeah he deff ran up to him to hold him up. good to see stuff like that from opposing teams. usually they just ignore the other team but I guarantee his momma raided him right with respect.
Repent to Jesus Christ! “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12 NIV C
Yeah but he need to stop the circus passes...just go down..him throwing passes when he's halfway down is basically opening him up to more hits...just go down and live to play another down
At 6:55, worst thing to do by his teammates… if he stays on the ground or not moving, don’t try to get him up! Let the medical staff do their job, you’re just making things worst and risking to aggravate the injury
I find it mind boggling that players still do this thing. At this stage, they should be well-informed on what they should or shouldn't do when stuff like this happens.
@Heru Santoso exactly. If someone is injured or down on the ground, it's common sense to not force them up. Some people I think just don't care or are stupid.
Thank you for this reality check of high impact sports. I enjoy football and forget the frailty of man as I get caught up in the action of being invincible.
I've got to wonder, in contrast to other contact sports, if the armour and helmets actually make it more dangerous at times, as opposed to rules and pllaystyle that are used to protect players from serious injury. It seems really common to use their bodies as a missile weapon, especially their own helmets, and targeting the legs, back, or head is still common, even by accident all whilst a conventional tackle would suffice. It's a weird sport sometimes for that.
You may be right. Back about 90 years ago, they hardly wore any padding of any kind, and only wore leather helmets, if they wore them at all. And the injury rates were not nearly as high, or as serious as they are now.
@@markl2322 guys were tougher back then, alot tougher. Plus they were used to getting layed out, their bodies prepare for it unlike the guys today. I think alot of players pretend to be injured today to. Not to mention they don't know how to tackle so awkward tackles to avoid breaking the rules injure knees, ankles, backs etc.
Bridgewater did see it, but missed the catch… that was a dirty ass hit imo. Dude had him even if he did make the catch, but you could tell he was out to hurt. Some guys get like that or even stay like that… life usually becomes very bad for them later on.
1:20 a moment that every KC Chiefs fan dreads. But even if you're not a fan of the team you hope and prey for any NFL player who gets hit with an injury. Im a long time Packers fan so I've been down this road before, how a single injury can have such repercussions.
im a packers fan and man... our star reciever davante adams got hit that hard and it scared me because i thought he was hurt but he got back up and shook it off.
the ones that scare me the most are the ones where they get hit, go down, and there's no one home. They are COMPLETELY out cold. Those scare me the most.
Cris Collinsworth is such a company man. The very first clip he says the hit is late and right to the head. It wasn't late and he hit the receiver in the chest.
I have no idea how that Adams hit wasn’t flagged. Not saying that there was ill intent on the part of the DB but it definitely matches the definition of a helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless player.
Can we talk about what the **** Green was doing at the end to blow that cardinals game . That hard hit and comeback all for nothing but our first loss . Hats off to both teams it was a amazing game
If you need a clear example of why discussions about either replacing the kickoff or changing it in some way to make it safer should be taken seriously, that Ward/Hill collision should be justification enough. Hill tore his ACL on that hit and I'm glad it wasn't worse than that, which is saying something. That hit was something that could have snapped bone and not just muscle, but he's unquestionably out for the season. And Ward is lucky he got out with only a concussion. He went top of his head first into Hill's hip. If that would have done anything to his spine, either compressing it or if his neck would have bent badly, he could have ended his career there from just a poorly chosen tackling approach. The kick return is so damn dangerous. I know some people like it as a sort of starting whistle, but man. Just use Jon Bois suggestion and spot it at the 20/25 or use his onside kick alternative. No single play is necessary enough to have players sprint nearly 50 yards directly at a player and hit them at full speed.
thats wasnt the first injury caused by ward. he has so many times were he is uncontrollable, and ends up injuring a player. with that play style of his, he was bound to be injured. unfortunate for the packers player alot, nothing he could do to stop it. i hope the best for em both
@@daltonburnett7181 wow that sucks, it sucks that special teams players HAVE to play so fast and hard bc each of them are one bad play away from cut. I'm not saying do away with the kick off but when keeping your job is the incentive for making a highlight reel tackle on ST then hits and injuries like this are rhe out come
I never understood how some people could make hits like that and go away all hyped up, I hit a kid once in football and he wouldn't get up, I had to check on him before anything and I still feel guilty about it
