She explained it so well! how insane is it that a teacher ran into open traffic with kids and without looking because “what was in front of her wasn’t as bad as what was behind her”. Also her son having been in 3 school lockdowns due to shootings. THIS is terrible.

*Melissa explains it all* and I can't help but tear up hearing her speak. She was one of my childhood roll models. She inspired me as a kid and now an adult.

I went to high school with her. She is an amazing person. Never let her fame get to her head when she was on Nickelodeon.

I’m a teacher and had a kindergartener ask me if “any kids from our school got dead” because she didn’t understand. When I explained that no, this was somewhere else she asked “has that ever happened here?” And I got the biggest lump in my throat and had to excuse myself to the restroom once she was happily playing. It’s so unfair. They deserve to learn and grow in peace.

I didn’t know she lived in Nashville. Glad she was there to help. One of the girls in my law class lost her dad, Mike Hill. There has been a cloud over Nashville this past week, but the humanity of people coming together to help has been astonishing. So sad for the families who lost their loved ones, but thankful there weren’t even more fatalities.

She sounds so shaken and she’s an adult who was just driving by, imagine those poor children

Being on the highway, and seeing a teacher and her students emerge from the bushes, was immediately understood by Melissa and her husband to not be normal. What a sad situation, but nonetheless, they kept the children calm and they inspired the one mother to believe that her child in the school was fine.

The first-hand account is just tearjerking, chilling, and heartbreaking. Thank you to the teachers/staff, Melissa, and all the emergency responders (and unknowns) who helped to those babies be safe as best they could!

I know I maybe late on this but I'm glad the woman did her best to get those kiddos across the street and away from the situation. Losing kids is basically like losing a best friend 😢. And I'm sorry that Nashville is heartbroken from this scary incident that happened on Monday. Sending lots of thoughts and prayers and love to the family that's been affected by this. 🙏🏻♥♥♥♥

You can tell she is down to earth person willing to help no matter her status. Rest In Peace all those lives lost in this. 😢

Now, this is a celebrity and a human being who did something honorable. 👏 👏 👏 It's not necessarily about donating millions... It's about going out there and helping those in trouble. Great example of humanity regardless of your fame and status. I was wondering where the students were at when the police stormed the school. The teachers and staff acted swiftly to protect and save as many students as possible. They should all be commended for their bravery ❤

I honestly don't think I could send my baby to school if I lived in the US. I know this isn't the case for every single school in the US, and I'm sure many children have absolutely fine school experiences in America, but just the idea of it is too frightening for me 💔 I'm so sorry to anyone and everyone involved in any situation like this xx

This was such a raw and honest telling of her experience. Never once did Melissa bring it back to her or try to make herself sound like a hero. You can visibly see and hear in her voice how much this shook her up and how difficult it was to stay strong for those kids she helped. Im from CT and I remember Sandy Hook so vividly. Its so heartbreaking to see this continue to happen almost on the daily in our nation. Anyway, this was a fantastic interview even given the circumstances in which it was conducted. Melissa was right where God needed her to be. On one hand it was hard for her to be so close to the tragedy, on another she was a real blessing to that scared mom and the children.

It’s so chilling. It’s been hard for me to process that this happened since I go to school no more than 5 minutes away. I know exactly which highway she’s talking about. I drive down it every day… I feel horrible for all of the children and parents who had to go through this and have lost someone. It breaks my heart #nashvillestrong

OMG listening to this on what happened and people came together to pray and be there for her. What women can do for each other and children is incredibly touching. Being a mom I live in NY and I get so mad bc we had threats all day but our school district never tells us about threats ever. They one time actually a few times got a shooting threat and they ignored it and didn't tell us. So fricken scary. I think schools need to be trained and cops need to react as quick and amazing that cop who went in with two others and stopped it quickly. And it's sad that in a few schools cops just stand there and wait outside. So what they did this time and ended it. Bullet proof doors to prevent them from being shot out. But truly heartbreaking no kid or person should die from some person who thinks is good to do this. It's scary for kids and every day they go to school their afraid it might happen. Things need to change and stop this disgusting trend. Please God protect our kids look over them and don't let any harm come there way. AMEN! GOD BLESS AND MY HEART IS WITH THESE POOR LOST KIDS AND ADULTS THAT PASSED AS WELL AND ALL THEIR FAMILIES. Parents worst nightmare

If you are in a position to homeschool your children, please do so. There are so many was to socialize your children, give them a well rounded education and pursue hobbies while at home. Save the children

My heart just rips apart for all the people, and good god, the kids who were the victims of such terror!😭😭😭it’s just damn shocking if you look at the list of mass shooting in the US in 2023 alone. And since I’m not from the US I just had no idea that everything is actually sooooo unbelievably horrifying. I’m a teacher and I can’t imagine going through something so tragic and traumatic and then having my childhood hero appear to help me and my students to safety. I’d probably just assume nothing that was happening was real at all.

I can't imagine anyone having to go through something like this in even a tangential way once, let alone multiple times, but listening to her tell the story I do wonder if part of the reason is because due to her faith and kindness and ability to think and act in crisis situations perhaps this part of these stories is a blessing from God sending someone who has that faith and kindness and strength to help out in difficult situations.

Much respect for Melissa and her husband for stepping up and helping out. Situations like this can really take a toll on anybody.

It is absolutely TERRIFYING to send your children to school these days and I cannot BELIEVE any human would ever harm little babies. Small helpless children. Those videos of the body cam with the sirens and a child's lifeless body on the ground was traumatic I couldn't imagine being there in person. So tragic. Prayers for all affected.

Being in one of the office buildings by this school, she speaks truth when she is referencing the woman searching for ways to get to her child. We could all see out our office windows only to see the chaos outside. The horrible part was watching all of the parents rushing towards the school frantically, all the while the ambulances flying past them going in the opposite direction. Such a sad, sad day. My ❤ breaks for those parents.

Melissa! I have missed you!! And this interview reaffirms what I've always admired about you: you're genuineness and realness. I'm so sorry for the toll being there must've had on you, but that was all God putting you right where you needed to be. Those children you walked with. The teachers you helped. All where trying to process deeply traumatic things all at that same moment. It was people like you who just saw the need and met it. You did not turn a blind eye or get the heck outta there for you own safety, but stayed. Those people & children will never forget your support on that day.

I’ve been wondering about her recently… I hate that this is how I see her doing now but I Admire and Respect her Bravery! ♥️♥️ I send everyone impacted love and peace of mind as everyone works through Trauma. What a scary day. Our homeschool co-op is 2 blocks away at a church down the road. Our kids just run around the entire campus without security precautions at all. This made us rethink everything. These sweet precious babies forever changed bc of this incident.

This breaks my heart ❤️. This is on my mind every day when I send my child to school. I should never have to worry about this. Our children should not have to wonder if someone may harm them at school. People are automatically screaming TAKE THE GUNS AWAY!! You are missing the whole point here. If a killer wants a gun bad enough they will always find a way. The killer doesn't give two shits about the law. You can make a million gun laws...THEY DON'T CARE. Taking the gun away isn't the answer and for some reason there seems to be a lot of hesitation in the police force upon arrival. Nashville did great though! These shootings aren't going to stop without a real solution. If I was in a position of power I would be more than happy to come up with one.
