We asked three unique and lovely centenarians what their most valuable life lessons were, and also their regrets.
The conversations that followed were remarkable. They talked about the importance of family, people, relationships and love. Their view on life, as an elderly citizen with a lot of experience is truly an inspiration and motivation. Enjoy the video! And please let us know what your thoughts are!

I used to work in a nursing home, I asked a 103yo the secret to a long life. He told “don’t forget to breath!”. I laughed at the time but it has multiple layers really.
Christina Sophia Paterno
That’s true! Literally of course, then….take time to smell the roses, take a moment before you react, etc. Breathing is also the way to inner connectedness, pranayama. I’m sure you could dig up five more meanings.

@Christina Sophia Paterno those are pretty much the same meanings I put into it. Although to be honest I think he only actually meant the literal one, he was a bit of a joker.

I started a conversation with an older gentleman at the gym the other day. I like talking to people and have been into the gym for 20 years now. I'm 37. I knew this guy was older but when he told me he had just celebrated his 95th birthday I was shocked. That is by far the oldest person I have seen lifting weights and in such shape. So cool. He told me his son died at 52 and he outlived his wife. Then he said what I was seriously hoping for. He asked if I would go for a coffee with him sometime. It was literally the cutest thing in the world. He said the following: "You have no idea how much you made my day by talking to me, thank you." "When you get to my age there aren't many people left you know." "Most people just pass you by." It was heart warming seriously people. I shared that cool story because as younger people we don't feel the way they do. The world still sees us. Heck, sometimes we get so much attention we want people to actually leave us alone!! lol. I know I do sometimes. Most cultures hold their elders in very high regard, we should all hold them there. Try to talk to these lovely people whenever you can. Just say hello if nothing else, you will almost always receive a warm smile. Cheers

I really felt this. I'm 17 now, making plans for my life, wanting to chase money and success, being great and change the world, becoming important in a wider meaning. But when I see such things, when people who have already lived tell me what living really is like, I think I'm completely missing the point: I just want to be happy, and live a happy and fulfilling life. And when I'll be old I think it won't matter if I had been rich or if my life plans had gone right, I will only care about how I really lived my life. Thank you for sharing your stories, teaching us these life lessons. Should definitely talk more with my grandparents...

Er, the whole time I was watching it, it struck me that they all look quite well off, live in nice homes, in nice locations......so I think you should chase money and success in your younger years, or you won't be living like that once you're retired (unless you are coming into an inheritance at some point). And that is the reality.

Well it's strange, because my friend's daughter told me the other day she's 3 and a half, and we all laughed at how cute it is. And of course, when you have only been alive for 3 years, a half a year is a very long time, and quite a big deal. But it was refreshing to hear a man 99 years older still using the half 🙂

I talked with my neighbor who was 97 years old. He was becoming incredibly frail and I would see him sit outside with his walker. I would join him whenever I saw him outside, and he would talk about his experiences in Poland and being a child prisoner, and his experience in the RAF as a radar operator during WW2, also how he came to the USA and started a family. That man really lived a life that I will never come close to experiencing. He passed away about this time last year and I was really glad that I sat and talked with him. We both share the same first name and heritage, I only knew him for about a year and I miss him.

I come from Poland and my own grandparents were extremely uptight, rarely smiling people. I got married with a Japanese man and all the elders in his family are the exact opposite. I never knew someone can be over 90 and this happy, this joyful, this social, this nice. I'm surely glad to become part of his family. Seems people don't really change with age much. They just are who they are.

“Be as independent as you can but don’t be reluctant to ask for help when you need it”. I just turned 25 and honestly this has been helping me … I had to learn it the hard way. You really think the most important thing on this planet is having a good time here? Why people are that deceived they only think about this life instead of thinking about the life after death. Maryanne Galo Why so much hate people get always angry when they hear the truth. But that’s nothing new jesus told us this thousands years ago. And believe me i wasn’t always a believer i was atheist than i realized that there must be a god and start searching in buddhism, hinduism, islam, new age, i tried acid and mushrooms but only jesus can fill the hole in you. I avoid christianity because i thought this can’t be real this sounds too weird. But jesus is the truth and the way to eternal life. And just because you don’t believe in it that doesn’t mean it’s not true don’t be ignorant jesus proofed that he was who he pretended to be people can’t ignore him👌🏼

That generation is truly beautiful and so inspiring❤️ I am Gen z, and while there are good things about my generation, we lack the gratitude, humility, and selflessness generations before us have. Sadly, these beautiful things have been replaced with self-entitlement and narcissism. I only hope to have the wisdom of these three one day, and live my life with selflessness, positivity, love, gratitude, humility, and kindness toward others. This can be such a battle though as the pull of the world I am living in is strong. I, along with our society, need to refocus on God again! He is our only hope.

These lovely people are so inspirational. It's always a pleasure to listen to them. My husband and I moved into an apartment when we retired and were fortunate to meet a neighbour just into her 90s while we were in our mid 60s. She was a real lady and had been in the army in WW2 with so many stories to tell. We felt there was no age gap at all between us. With the help of her family she lived in her own home until the end. She died just 4 months short of 100. Never write people off just because they're old, we can learn so much from them. ❤️

this somehow gives me a feeling that older generations lived real and intact lives. they have their own world full of their own feelings. nowadays we always build too many connections and get ourselves influenced by unimportant things and people too much, our lives are torn up and feel so fake.

These 100 years olds are more younger looking and more sharp then some 70-80 year olds! It’s the truth, they look incredible and amazing! I’m just speechless and truly admire people that have led wonderful lives and are positive and keep a healthy outlook. I’d love to meet these people and I pray I can go over 100 too:) I believe the secret is always God. God will prolong your life for as long as He desires for it’s His Will first:) Truly heartwarming how upbeat and how they keep going:)✨🙋🏼♥️✨

Easy, lucky, stress-free life with a positive/happy outlook seems to be the recipe for a long life. There seems to be no trauma in the childhood of those that live very long. Plus they also seem to gravitate towards stable, mentally and emotionally healthy partners, continuing the bliss. Shows you how stress is a killer and harmony a healer.

Amelia outlived her children who she says she loved ‘immensely’ and her husb who she’d been with since 16. That’s not stress free. She was emotionally resilient and adapted to the cards dealt. Very few can do that now. If either man was in the war they saw and experienced things most of us hopefully never will.

No matter the age, everyone has something to teach. Whether directly or indirectly, we can learn from everyone, including ourselves. Everyone learns and lives a unique paces. I think what we can learn most from older individuals is regrets of matters not pursued earlier on. Though if we live each moment whilst bearing in mind the reasons for all that we do, we may not ever regret anything, knowing everything we did mattered in the moment; and this in itself is a life worth living,

My grandfather lived with me for awhile when he was in his late 80’s before he passed away. He told me to live my dream and let no one ever hold me back from living it. He told me that good men are as rare as diamonds, and not to fall for the fake shiny and sparkly ones. It takes time and examination to find the true gem of the earth. He lived to 92 years young. We grandkids used to joke that he would be found propped up on some sort of farm equipment out in the field when he passed. It wasn’t far from the truth in the end. I want to be like him.

Seeing others happy makes me happy. I'm in my early 30s at the moment and I can happily say that I'm ready to die of Covid 19 although I don't have it. I wish I could meet these people and share some stories because I made some stupid mistakes in my life but as long as I still live I will keep taking care of my health and prove who I am. People will know the real truth one day. I used to believe that I was born to be one of the best and I want to get that belief back and if I don't make it to the top, at least I know I tried.

Watching this video makes me smile. They may be in the triple digits when it comes to age but they are all seemingly so youthful! They are talking so vibrantly and so cheerfully! There's nothing they can say about life but wonderful things and how content they are. I've seen bitter youths and adults who doesn't seem to have anything good to say about life. This makes me very hopeful that when I get there in age that aging can be made to be cheerful and grateful.

I remember being really young, like 6 or 7 and my school had this group where we did things for the community and we volunteered at retirement homes or nursing homes, sometimes. And from what I remember, I used to love talking with the elderly and they were so kind to me. I barely remember it and I’m only 22 now, but being 6 or 7, I didn’t appreciate it to remember it enough. But sometimes I look back at it and wonder how they are or if they’re still alive.

Boy it really is difficult for young folk like me to comprehend how much they know. I was once taught why by a Vietnam war vet, "When your young you think you know everything and it takes you 40 years to figure out you don't know squat." Impressive how these old people are still youthful in life. My grandpa was born in July 1922, fought in WW2, went to the same school Trump and his kids went to, managed a Honeywell, and after retiring lived to 92; so I could make it to 100. I have hard odds though as both my parents were born between September and November. People born then have a 40% greater chance of living to 100 than people born in March April or May (my birth month). My half sister was born in that September-November bracket so she could live to 100. Another reason I have harder odds is because I do work that regularly risks infection or injury. I'm on the cusp of becoming a leader in the field though. I do think it would be interesting to have all of them, or at least some of them live to 100. I'm certain I would outlive them though since I'm on the younger side. Before I outlive them I want them to live to the max, they know that. I understand the path that we take upon our death on Earth. I have learned from many sources including those who have died and came back. It is now known that those experiences are not hallucinations and are real www.technologynetworks.com/neuroscience/news/why-near-death-experiences-are-not-just-hallucinations-360467 It's fascinating that we can know what happens before we experience it, that knowledge helps us live the way we should while here. Stay blessed everyone

I agree! That was the best line and the complete truth. Why do we always feel like such failures when things don’t go exactly as planned. Everything happens for a reason. We may not know why at the time but if we don’t lose hope we can figure out why.
