God puts some amazing people on this planet and Jed was one of them….. I feel very lucky I got to spend some time hanging out with Jed doing what we love He was truly One of a kind. RIP Jed love you brother 🙏
I only started dropping some more serious trees in the past 3 or 4 months since we moved offgrid and remote in Australia. I found Jacob and Jed while I was looking for better info on cutting trees and came across the 8 ways to fell a tree video. Instantly Jed comes across as both a true professional at his work and also an extremely humble man in how he carried himself. I will be forever indebted to him and Jacob for that video and the information they shared. It's given me the confidence to cut some heavy trees over here and know it will be a good shot. Rest in peace mate.
One thing I know for sure is “ when ever I lose the fear of climbing ,sawing and rigging I’m done with trees”every time I climb I’m scared. Widow makers hide and often never seen. RIL Jed. I learned new techniques from you buddy 😢
I just heard about Jed yesterday. Only new him from Guilty of trees on videos. But you could tell he was very humble and loved his Job. 🙏 Prayers for you and his family God bless.
2 years ago, I took down a 35 foot black walnut in my backyard. After being quoted absolutely ridiculous rates or being ignored by all the arborists in my area, I decided to do it myself. I cut it down, cut the limbs into firewood and built a chainsaw mill to turn the trunk into slabs. I had never touched a chainsaw prior to this endeavor, and everything from safety, to technique, to sharpening the thing, almost all of my knowledge came from this channel and learning from Jed. I feel like he literally taught me everything I know about this. I don't comment on videos, but this is an exception. Rest in peace man. Thank you for everything, and thank you Jacob for the channel and everything you're doing
@Elliott Brown gotta pay the bills. The talent then leave the location without a trace. Homeowners all have high expectations and it quickly translates into skilled labor. It's not groundskeeper Willy working on your property it's craftsman with responsibility and experience that you pay for.
I think it's important to keep in mind that those absolutely ridiculous rates are for the exact reason Jed's life was cut short. Tree work is an incredibly hazardous job that few recognize. Not only the risk of limb, but also property. No matter the size of a tree, there's almost always a hazard presented. What a blessing it was that you were able to gain the courage from Jed's instruction. I too have gained so much from his videos.
it is absolutely incredible how much bringing down a single tree can cost. We recently got quoted something like $7500 to bring down about 15-20 moderately sized trees so I've done the same as you -- relearned it myself
I'll never forget watching the tree felling tutorial for the first time. How humble and genuine he was. This brought a tear out of me. I'm glad you got say I love you. Us guys usually don't say it out loud.
I knew Jed as a teenager and he was always someone you wanted to just be close to. Although we hadn’t spoke since 1992, it was clear that he was still a great thinker, feeler, and communicator. Thank you for putting this together, I’m so sorry for your loss, and for all of our loss.
This hit me harder than I thought it would. Jeds knowledge has been passed to so many. Ive dropped hundreds of trees with his knowledge. RIP Jed, keep slaying big firs in the sky
So true for me too. Jed was an intelligent and talented craftsman. I appreciate the knowledge that he shared with all of us. I hope he’s in the presence of the Lord right now.
Absolutely beautiful tribute. The ending where you guys say I love you is really quite moving. That’s what life is about right there. Rest in peace, Jed.
who woulda have thought years ago your TRvid channel would highlighted just another thing Jed had conquered with his skill and passion! Passion is deep in this video, for the love of jed and for the love of trees. Stay strong Jacob, we're all here for ya!! I watch this weekly and it never gets f'n old!! JED WAS A BAD ASS MAMBA JAMBA!!!! RIP
I just started watching this channel a few days ago. But, man, I am tearing up. I love just what I have seen of Jed. What an awesome man. I can't imagine how many people are missing him already.. praying for the family and friends.
I cried like a baby through this entire tribute. I never had the honor to know Jed personally, but he was a guy you could just love through the screen. He’s always been a legend in my book. That last part in Gordy’s shop when you told each other I love you, that’s always stuck with me. Pure magic. You and all your friends have made a big impact on a lot of lives. We’ll miss you Jed ❤.
Repent to Jesus Christ “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 NIV H
Thank you Jake, Jed would love this tribute video you have made for him and condolences to you all. Be strong Jake, Jed will always be watching with a smile. God bless.
He seemed like an amazing, humble, and fun man. I am glad he found his calling. I am a young guy in the tree game and my nickname is Jed so this one is especially scary and eye opening. Rest in Peace Jed
Beautiful tribute Jake. 8 ways to fell a tree was a major moment in my career. His knowledge is something i carry with me everyday at work. That video alone ignited a passion in me to be a proficient feller not just a climber. RIP Jed. You’re a legend
@Duke Craig Thank you very much for the booktip and for your own story. We have neither mountains nor heavy industries here, nevertheless people still die in their jobs. 100 % safety doesn't exist.
Agree. I'm not a professional treefeller let alone a climber, but that video with - among others - "Inbred" Jed was awesome and the first of your videos I fell upon. Helped my hobbyfelling as well. Take care and maybe some time off if possible. RIP Jed.
Jacob, Thanks for bringing Jed into all of our lives. We all could learn a little bit not just from how he cut and how he filed but how he lived genuine and humble. Thank you and God Bless.
I watch several tree channels regularly but had never seen this one for some reason so this is the first time to see you and Jed. What a great, passionate, sharp guy he was! Definitely the type of person that makes the world a better place and will be sorely missed. As somewhat of a tree feller myself I can understand what he said about the “ineffable” feeling that that sort of work gives you. You feel godlike way up in a tree, overlooking everything around you, while at the same time, being on the ground dropping one also gives you a real sense of power and the forces of nature. A definite respect for each tree and a true appreciation for the forest.
I stumbled over one of your videos as I've been learning how to use a chainsaw for basic garden stuff and was gutted to read about Jed's passing after that first video......this is one hell of a tribute and had me in bits. What an amazingly talented guy he was.
Make sure the ones you love know you love them. We can't know when our time is, all we can do is occupy this temporary home the best way we can until it's our time to go. Rest in peace Jed. I've learned a thang or two watching yall. Sorry for your loss brother. My heart goes out to you guys.
I heard this and even though I didn’t personally know him. I’ve come to know him from hours of video. Always a smile on his face and such a friendly open and inviting guy. He was such an evil genius type when it came to anything tree cutting and chainsaw. I learned so much from him and have been so much safer in my operations. Thank you guys for your content and Jed will be missed. My condolences to you all and his family my deepest sorrow. I have two young daughters myself.
Brutal. Something I always appreciated in your videos and interactions with Jed was that, regardless of jokes, etc., it was very clear how much you valued each other. Rest in Peace, Jed.
Jake… my heart is truly broken. I never thought I’d shed a tear for someone I didn’t know personally. But I was proven wrong today. I can feel your pain and I’m sure many of us feel it as well. Keep your head up brother your community will come through for Jeds wife and little girls . I have a wife and 2 little girls and possibly another on the way. I share the same line of work as a tree climber and bucket operator and I will take this lesson and apply it everyday. Stay diligent , stay focused , follow your heart, and trust in gods plan. For Jed is now with the lord in heaven with streets paved of gold. We will all be up there with our fallen brother one day. Untill the. Every tree I take down will be in memory of him. R.I.P Jed you are a warrior. You’re energy will carry through, you will never truly be gone. With all of my heart I love you guys.
Jed has taught so many people with you through you tube ,he has saved lives 0:56 and gave his humble knowledge to people willing to learn .he was amazing at whatever he did , because he liked it .I didn’t personally know him but just from his incredible videos felt like I did . God bless and thank you for touching so many souls in this world Rest In Peace
I have watched "WORLD'S BEST TREE FELLING TUTORIAL" more times than I will admit. Listening and watching Jed verbalize his thoughts and his approach in the art of felling trees is awe inspiring. Truly, a Mozart of the chainsaw with extraordinary contributions to the field. I never met him, but I will miss him.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends. My heart breaks for you guys, you're videos with him were truly epic. He loved what he was doing and died loving it. A true legend passed too soon. 😞
I spent all day today thinking about Jed, his family, and Jacob. I heard of this tragedy last night and it’s been on my mind since. Jacob, you said it so well, sometimes it just doesn’t matter how good or careful you are. RIP Jed. My deepest condolences to Jed’s family and friends.
just watching your video, anyone can tell how much Jed loved what he does. And how much he loved sharing it. From one Jed to another. That was a hell of a man!
Dang, this shows you how things can change so quickly, even with an experienced craftsman, a damned Widowmaker is all it takes, my condolences to all that were touched by Jed, I have only seen him on video, what a swell dude, he seemed to have a huge heart and every time I watched Jed in a video, he always had a tremendous laugh that was infectious. Guys like Jed are one in a billion This is heart wrenching, Again my condolences to all especially his family. Rest in peace 🕊️
When you said "I love you Jed"…. That was immensely powerful, can’t imagine how it felt for you to edit that. This has honestly rocked my world and I’m just a random regular viewer that cuts his own firewood. My thoughts are with you, and stay strong ❤
Also the way Jed reacted to it gives the full picture of what that relationship was. Really beautiful moment that was actually, and it takes a special couple of guys to say that kind of stuff to each other for one, and to proudly put it on youtube for all to see is a shining example of who these men are.
Yeah, real cool Jacob. Let's never forget to always tell our brothers we love em. Not enough of that in our world. Terribly sorry for the loss of Jed. And I happened to know that there's a God in the heavens that will restore Jed, and ones like him taken too soon, to a renewed life (John 5: 28, 29) God Almighty loves a hard worker, and a family man. He will grant these ones something wonderful in the near future (Isaiah 65: 21-25)
Absolutely gutted to hear of Jed’s passing. Never met him, didn’t know him but he was always so cool and interesting and just loved his work and his life. Condolences to you all from the other side of the Atlantic. God speed Jed.
Oh man that sucks. I’m so sorry for all your loss, Jed came across as a stand out guy just doing what he loved. Stay safe Jake, peace and love to all. RIP
From watching Jed in your vids Jacob I can tell he was a great guy. Things like this happens even to the best of the best it seems. It makes me real sad to hear. Strength to you in these times, losing a good friend and to his family and other friends. RIP Jed.
You sir, have done an amazing job capturing a man at his absolute best, at his craft, and passion. This man has left a legacy. Many have learned, and will continue to learn from Jed because of this. His legacy will live on.
Damn, what a tragedy. I remember the first video I ever watched about tree cutting was the one with Jed explaining all the different cuts, he seemed like he did it all his life and put whole soul into it, definitely a master of his craft. That's a huge loss for the community, everyone who knew him personally and those that will never get to. My condolences and best wishes to all his family and friends.
I heard of Jed from his death, on a firewood channel tonight. I cut as a hobby and truly envy all of the guys who do it for a living. Especially climbers. So sorry to hear of his loss. Prayers for his family and friends. Inept-able ... Great memory for you to share when there are no words.🙏
Anyone who has carried a chainsaw in the backcountry is blessed with the beauty of nature, the calm of the wilderness, the sense of fulfillment upon return to civilization that I too am wild for earning a good living doing what few can. Rest in peace, Jed.
My sympathies to you Jake and Jed’s family. The first video I watched on this channel was the tree felling tutorial with you and Jed. Both you and Jed are very talented people with great personalities. The way you both communicate on camera and work together was very soothing to me. It truly makes me a better person after watching your videos. Thank you for everything and again I’m sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed.
Jed was an inspiration to all arborists, fallers, your fans, his friends and family. It’s not until now that I realize Jed was also a legend in the skateboarding community. News like this brings us an emptiness that your tribute video somehow replenishes with memories of Jed’s attitude, character, and that contagious smile. Rest in peace, friend.
So sorry for your loss Jake I can tell he was your mentor in this industry and good friend, it’s hard to imagine what you’re going through right now 🙏 prayers go out to you and Jed’s family
It's always terrible when we lose a good man. My sincere condolences to Jeds family and his friends. Tree work is a dangerous job as anyone who has wielded a saw truly knows. Yet we do it because it's our calling. Jed was so very skilled and absolutely loved what he was doing. We should all be so fortunate to love our jobs like that. Farewell brother, though I didn't know you personally, you had the right heart
Fly High my fellow tree brother! This is a sad one for sure. Highly respected highly looked up to man who deserves all the praise in the world. To all my other brothers out there keep them eyes wide, listen, and try to be extra observant. Nothing but love to all you. Treeson so sorry for your loss brother keep your head high and continue carrying on the legacy. Be safe out there fellas!
I don't know you from Adam, but your tribute and effort to care for your friend's family is admirable. It touched me deeply. As a father to two little girls myself, I'm broken by the amount of love he must have for his little girls and how badly he probably misses them. At the same time, I am consoled by the knowledge that he has someone like you in his corner to watch over his family. I've donated what little I can because of your efforts. A burden shared is a burden lightened. Thank you.
I didn't know this man at all, but holy shit, how much of a great friend you are to not only have captured such an important part of a man's life, his essence, what he was really born into this world for, and during such a difficult time, you put his greatest moments together, so other humans, who couldn't witness his presence on this Earth, can understand how important this man was for the people around him. It's truly hard to lose family, specially those who you chose to become brothers with. Jed seemed to be a great man, and you definitely was part of his legacy.
I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy and the unfortunate loss of this man. To his family and to his friends, God bless you all and may you find comfort in this time of mourning.
My condolences to all of his family and friends, even those that got to know him by the videos. He was a reminder of my Great Uncle who was in a wheelchair majority of his life due to a tree coming back after falling it and the skill and dedication it takes for you folks to do a dangerous but needed job. Condolences again.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I loved this tribute video the best I've ever seen. My heart goes out to you, his family and friends a like. God bless Jed and may God be with you all in this time of morning and grief.
I'm sorry for your loss man. I didn't know Jed but I'd like to send my condolences to you, Jed's wife, his daughters and anyone else affected by the loss 🙏
Wow. First video on this channel I watched was Jed showing a bunch of different cuts so I could learn how to fell a tree properly. This was hard to watch. Death is always so hard to accept. What a great legacy he left though. Thank you Jed.
RIP Jed - enjoyed the time we had to share watching him as part of your team. God has the bigger plan and is in control of how long we have. He was awesome to watch. Prayers for his family; his wife and daughters, and you all at Eastside!
Jake, stay strong, stay focused and as you do, stay humble. Such an amazing tribute. The banter between the two of you at the end is priceless and can never be replaced.
This hurts, man. Your channel has always been one of my favorites, and Jed has been a big reason why. If he was in a video, I knew it would be a good one. Prayers up for his wife, kids, and friends.
I am often reminded that we do not know the hour or day that we are to be called to stand before the King of kings. I believe Jedd was a man of honor and he was ready before the day started. He will be missed!
I wish I could have met this man….I have been watching all of these videos for years.I have my own tree service in South Carolina and I am deeply saddened over this….watched this tribute many times and I cry every time.Great tribute….Love you too Jake
This has hit an entire community pretty hard. I’m so sorry about his passing. Awesome man from everything I’ve seen and heard. Hope his family will remember the good times and find peace.
This is just so sad. Stay strong and know you have tons of friends that are supporting you, we all love Jed. And will miss him. I am so sorry for your loss. Our loss, we have all learned so much from him and you. Thank you for all you do.
This is my second comment: The nerves it took to make this video are second to none. I don’t see how you kept it together as well as you did. I cried my eyes out and I never met Jed. He would be honored for you to make this video. Thank you , praying for you and his family.
So sorry to hear this. This hits me so much harder than any celebrity death ever will. This man's legend will live on. The videos and lessons you've put out have probably saved a 100 lives. RIP Jed.
Loss is never an easy thing to go through. The loss of a good hardworking man is even harder. In a way your friend will live forever through this tribute. In the 20 years I spent logging western Oregon I’ve seen 11 good hardworking men taken. I wish I had pictures or videos of them , so I could honor them the same way. They should never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
This one is heart wrenching. When you watch these guys on TRvid everyday you start to grow a bond with them. Prayers and love to Jed family and friends. You was a OG. Rest easy Jed
Repent to Jesus Christ “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 NIV H
This is very sad to hear, and definitely checks my ego. We used to cut/fell firewood with Dad when we were little so we got pretty okay at it, and I just recently got back in to land clearing. I can honestly say that I run from most of the trees I fell 🤣 since I'm STILL learning how differently they can fall. I don't think I'll be doing anything like y'all do any time soon -- it's incredible how dangerous and shocking it can be. God bless you all, and I pray you find peace in this difficult time
Truly sorry for your loss Jacob. My jaw literally hit floor after watching this video for the first time. Jed was one of those guys that when he spoke you listened, always articulate and very knowledgeable of his craft. Climb your way up and watch your friends and family from the tree tops in heaven RIP. Praying for you and his family.
What a great tribute to your friend Jake, I'm at a loss for words. I'm so sorry for your loss. I will certainly lift you and his family to the Lord in my prayers.
I’m so sorry for your loss , I happened to come across this tribute after watching one of your chain sharpening videos, as a former forester myself , I feel your grief , RIP Jed 🇬🇧
I got a lot of knowledge from Jed on things that are not prevalent in my area. He will be deeply missed. It’s not a matter of if something happens, but when it does. I have been around the timber business most of my life and have seen so much happen. There are so many unforeseen things that we cannot control. Prayers for Jed’s family.
What a Beautiful tribute 💜. Thank you for sharing. The arborist community has lost quite the brother. I pray his memories live on in the hearts of others and can further promote safety and education across the industry. My deepest condolences 💜🌳
You have blessed us all by allowing us to get to know Jed through your channel. This news actually made me cry. The loss was felt all the way out here in Michigan. Thanks for the sizwill school, Jed.
What a fabulously heartfelt and loving tribute. Jed knew God created a masterpiece and he no doubt felt privileged to work where most men feared to tread. RIP and sorry for your loss.
Damn Jacob, I'm so sorry to hear about Jed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Stay safe out there bud. 🙏 R.I.P. Jed. We love you, and Jacob we love you too.
Relatively new to the channel and want to express my deepest sympathies to Jed and his family. Also want to say how much I appreciate your tribute to him. One thing I’ve learned in my short years on this earth, it can happen to you. That is how I approach life to guard myself from all kinds of peril. God speed.
Poor guy. Goes to show no matter how good you are, life has a way backfiring so very fast. May he rest in peace, he deserves it. Hopefully it's not too rough on his family, and you look after yourself too. Nice work on the tribute video too, must have been hard for you to put it together having to think about losing him the whole time
I'm heartbroken to hear of Jed's passing. You introduced me to Jed through your prior channel work. I looked forward to learning something new each time you and Jed made a video. The square ground chain was fantastic. The world will be a little darker with out the bright personality of Jed here to guide future arborists. I'm just a guy that watches some videos and fells trees on my property when needed. I wish Jed was still here for his 2 daughters and wife even if we never got to see him again. Prayers go out to Jed's family and condolences on their great loss.
I’m so sorry Jake. It took me days to be able to comment. I’ve watched almost every video you guys posted and learned, practiced so much. We love you Jed! What an amazing spirit he was and beautiful life he lived. I hope his family gets through this ok. 🌲💚
Jacob, Jed made a difference. The videos you made together will be online forever. Future generations will be watching them and learning from Jed. His lessons have, and will save lives. We are his legacy and there are millions of us. I can't imagine what his family and close friends are going through. He died doing what he loved. This one hurts. I love you all.
Thank you for sharing the news. It is eye opening how shockingly dangerous this job can be. Jed’s instruction was always clear, concise and easy to follow. Videos of him were not only educational, but entertaining. He was an inspiration as much as he was a siren to the dangers of the trade. Jed’s practical wisdom will live on through the next generation of log cutters. May he rest in peace.
I'm a woodworker and not a tree guy beyond some minimal family tree clearing. Your vids helped me clear a storm downed maple tree SAFELY on my mother in law's property. I've been watching your videos for a while and Jed is my Yoda, just like he was yours. Thank you for introducing us. Brother, I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I don't know any of you but I feel the loss. I know it must feel weird sharing a part of your life with the world so publicly, but it makes a lot of us feel like we know you. We really don't, and you 100% don't know any of us but we're all just people being people and the sharing matters. I love you, Jake, and I love Jed 😥. I'm sad that he will no longer be able to give us his guidance.
I can imagine how difficult this is for you, jake - as well as all of jed’s family and friends. This really sucks. Continue to honor his memory and be well. RIP.
