Fishing back where I use to fish 🎣 haven’t been back there in years

Storm brings the H²S (hydrogensulfide) gas to break up from the sediment. Thats why it stinks so much, plus its very toxic for fish. So you have a depletion of oxygen plus hydrogensulfide and the result is masses of fishes killed. Greets from germany

Getting skunked is part of fishing. Don't feel bad about it.

You should contact the Louisiana fish and game commission and let them investigate that. Glad to see you made through that nasty storm.

I think shady companies dump stuff they aren't supposed to during a storm like that to cover the fact they are illegally dumping. The storm washes the evidence away, and nobody is out in it to see. Chemicals in the water would kill fish.

there is some sort of poison in that water. something got pushed in, could have been pool chemicals.

The dark water is exactly as you stated, dead biomass churned up from torrential rain and pumping down the canals prior to land falling storm. The slick is more than likely reminents of year of fuel spills on and around the Naval Air Station. The current EPA standards for fuel spill containment and cleanup are extremely stringent compared to 20-30 years ago, therefore when you get heavy rain some old fuel will weap out of the ground and present as a sheen on the water. Glad to see you're posting again and I'm glad to call Belle Chasse home as well.

Yep, Facial hair has blown away and looks like that sulfur gas has robbed the water of Oxygen. Glad you're safe. Glad you have power now. Continue to stay safe. Thanks for catching us up Mark.

Doze the storm surge tack all the oxygen out of the water that kills the fish.

Here in Vermont when we get a big huge storm a lot of rain lots of big cities were released overflow from the sewer into the Brotz and rivers and you get that smell and you get a lot of dead fish plus you get the residue from homes from pesticide use fertilizer from farmers a lot of factors cause death of a fish and a lot of rain and a temperature of the water will kill fish certain fish

Yes do a carp fishing video! Also carp can take low oxygen levels too so it’s weird so many died.

Keep your head up brother, thanks for the video. Hopefully the water will settle down soon and you can get back on track. Maybe cast net for mullet and fishing for tanks if you can get to the river.

It's good to see normalcy. I'm in South Houma. It's insane here. Like a bomb exploded here...

Odd that lots of carp are dead cause they can survive in low oxygen levels presuming the oxygen levels plummeted or sewers or crap from roads like petrol etc got into the pond

I can’t say for sure but looks like dead fishoil. Any animal can leave a slick like that, I shot a turtle in a pond thought I missed him. When I came back a few days later the whole pond had a slick on it that stank.

At the 5:30 mark you were talking about a curfew. Why is there a curfew? Covid? Or something to do with the storm?
zymbotictoot

@Neal Aucoin Thanks for the reply. Some people are going to be without power for a month or so is absolutely insane. And you've been without power now for over a week is awful. I live in Eastern Canada and we had some rain and minor flooding from Ida but nothing like the absolute nightmare y'all are going through. I'm praying for all my southern neighbors. I hope everything gets back to normal for you soon.

Most places they weren’t enforced too much but if businesses had power or running off generators they had to shut down no lights for streets including traffic light so they wanted less amount of people on road lots still without power still some won’t have for months expecting ours soon in Livingston parish south west of him it is terrible I’m northwest of him

All the fish are dying everywhere but the river. The back of the shrimp lot an all the little ditches along the expressway are usually where ill throw a cast net for bait but all the bait is dead or dying. Its especially bad at the back of the shrimp lot.
