@Buushin true, there is a proper way to shoot it is just varying depends on the shooter's height, strength and built. For example, taller players tends to have a higher set points while shorter players shoot in a lower set point. That is one of the factors. What Kobe has said is just a half truth. It will not apply generally but particularly.
Great tips about shooting. I have played basketball for years, and in the past I have had an inconsistent shot. I could not figure out why. Then I learned to grip the ball (shooting hand) with a wide grip of my fingerpads and lift the ball slightly off my palm while shooting. After a lot of practice., this (and giving the ball more arch) greatly increased my accuracy. Just putting this out there for what it's worth.
@Ark Balls Yep i would say to do how Professor is showing ..the one entire motion using your legs and arms (for long shots if needed). Also like i mentioned ...from years of playing basketball ( im over 40) i finally started realizing how to put an arch on my shot. Its like you hoist it *UP* not just foRward. Doing that made me have an arch and got rid of me hitting back of the rim like that so much yea. .. also is how one can have that shooters roll on the rim (like Professor gets sO much of) if ya do hit rim. Ya know. Like not throwing it to the basket but tossing it uP and letting it fall into the hoop.
I haven't even dribbled a ball or shot one in 20 years or so. I'm 40 years old now and randomly stumbled across one of your videos and I was so entertained I watched would have to be 3hrs of your content (then subscribed) and ended up buying a $3k Megaslam XL hoop for our family. We have 4 kids ranging from 5 years old to 22 years old. I am so excited! I grew up with a hoop and so should my kids. Thanks for the content!
Good advice - especially the right forearm perpendicular to the court surface part. You didn't mention what you were aiming at: I prefer to aim at the metal net hangers on the rim. On my jump shot, I aim where the net hangs from the hangers. That gives me the "Duke Rip" - that sound that a well coached player has when his successful shots rip the net. Also, you might have covered the importance of correct head tilt because that effects the arc of the shot.
Thank you professor for the pointers on shooting a basketball. I will definitely work on it. And thank you for sharing and being a great inspiration to me and others. Be blessed 😊😊😊
Woww!! Thanks, professor. I nearly can do it! But I still have to learn much more about shooting or layup. But you did very good. Nice movements. Thanks for the video!!😄😁😁
He’s literally the professor of basketball, just look at this, he’s teaching us basketball shooting technique just like how a professor at a school teaches their students, he plays very well and he can teach us, this man’s a legend
Great video! One thing that I learned is the hop step when someone passes you the ball off a curl or swing pass. Hoping into the pass helps get your legs to get engaged like a rubber band and you get better bounce and power for your shot.
You oughta do another one of these. You were good then but im sure you've learned at least a little bit that you could share in a follow up video. I love your stuff dude!
I learned my shot style from slow-mo replay on old school NBA live and 2K games growing up... no BS I’m 29 and still shoot pretty good although not the best dribbler....
@Jesus Aguayo watch some steph’s highlights. Steph is not only a good 3 point shooter, he can shoot great mid range and his ball handling (dribbling) is one of the best of all time. His defence is also underrated and he has good vision and high game iq. I respect the professor a lot, he may even beat some nba players but not Steph Curry. Cheers.
Awesome tips, though I'd put them in a different order. 1) Body Alignment 2) Hand Placement 3) Release 4) Stance That's my guide for catch and shoot. And I'd even switch 1 and 2 and put hand placement as the most important thing because the hand is the last thing to touch the basketball. But I'll stick with what I said and say that Body Alignment is paramount followed swiftly by Hand Placement.
I just started to play Shooter Games on the PC and I've learned the only way to get good at something is to just do it, there is no shortcut, it is truly just you magically turn good one day, same thing apply to any skill, keep doing it and one day you'll be a god at it
We need to petition the NBA to let The Professor participate in the 2019 NBA All-Star weekend (Friday or Saturday) to recognize his dedication to the sport and his longevity. RIP And 1 Volumes.
The most important thing for shooting is your feet. Like Curry, if your feet is set, you can make straighter shots. Also, if your feet is set and it’s not going straight, look at your elbows where your shooting hand is. If your elbow is not straight and is going left or right ( depending which hand you shoot) practice by making your elbows *STRAIGHT*. Do not jump high because it will affect your power the higher you jump. When your about to shoot with your feet set and elbows straight, put your heels up and flick the ball. Well, that’s my technique I guess. ( SECRET ) When your about to shoot, imagine your hand is in the rim when you shoot. I don’t know why but it just helps me make shots myself lol. Anyways, have a great day 😃 By the way, what I mean by “Set your feet” is like making your feet straight with BOTH of them. Don’t turn your feet that much from the side because you might shoot to the right or left 😅 FYI: Flick helps you get more power. When you think you have to much power into your shot, don’t make it less powered! Just go for it. Don’t have doubts because you might hit the rim because of less-power.
Its hard to align your elbow with a wide stance. Just a personal preference thing but yall shud really try pointing your feet to the side and around shoulder width apart. Then make sure your elbow aligns with your front knee. Your shot will most likely always be straight
Also the best way to shoot is to have your guide hand at the top of the ball so that you can automatically get that 90 degree elbow so that you can aim better
When it comes to distance, how do you calibrate a consistency, or what measures do you use to get that distance perfect in the shot. For example, when putting on a golf green, my back swing is equivalent to the distance to the hole. 'Feel' can be unreliable under pressure, so we build a measured distance in practise.
This is good stuff! A lot of the dribbling stuff's unnecessary but I think this guy's biggest trick is simpler than that... he's a high percentage shooter. Good to see the technique broken down! All very orthodox too... 'fundamentals' (in prof-ese'). You can hear that flick too. Smooth!
I played point guard when I was in school & could dribble pretty well but I saw this kid at a b-ball camp that could dribble behind his back goin down court faster than most can in front & I mean a quick back & forth not hooking around your hip. I don't know how he didn't hit his heals
Already know how to shoot but I wanna see if you do it right Edit: it’s a pretty good tutorial I think you missed some key small things like cocking your wrist back a little to add more spin and having a gap under the ball aka a pocket also people should try putting their left foot if left handed a little in front and other way around if your right handed but good tutorial
I have just started basketball yesterday and i can now confidently shoot and get the basketball in between peoples legs.thank you for your great lessons....and u might not see this XD
Not saying, you're wrong about the one-step jumpshot, but I think it should be noticed that dome of the best shooters ever, like Mj and Kobe had a 2 step shot. They would jump all the way up and then shoot at the top of their jump. I have copied this technique and it has worked very well for me. Idk just a thought.
Thanks for the tutorial. I always have trouble with a jumpshot when I play basketball with my friends because whenever I go with a jumpshot the ball usually hits the backboard and doesn't go in or it's just an air ball.
aim approx 6 inchs above rim and six inchs in front of rim theory i came up with is the same as throwing ball straight up in air ball STOPS for nano second at top most point before coming back down same as at the 6 inch up and 6 inch in front point thus coming in similair to a plane landing anyway i have been playing for thirty years without any coaching as soon as i tried this about two years back i consistantly here people saying hes a shooter ..hes money ..etc before that competive people didnt want to pass me the ball even though i was a lock down defender with unquestionable stamina because i would either consitantly clank it off the front rim or the back of the rim now people are even saying to me you got to shoot more as i look often to set up people for easy baskets after all its about team success evn if ego tells me different love your humbleness coach professor
I was just watching some old footage of Professor back in the day with The "And 1" Tour, and his jump shot has improved a TON. Form and All. God Bless.
5654 Soccer is the number 1 and most powerful sport on Earth and its massive in over 240 nations. FIFA has 211 member nations. Basketball is massive in less than 40 nations eydv
I find many times I miss it released of my pink and ring finger. When it realeas from my index or middle it’s always accurate and switch; stance is also very important
MJ talked about the 3 90s. 90 degrees at the elbow, 90 degrees at the armpit and 90 degrees at the wrist with your elbow in line with your body not jutted out.
More like this Step one: watch the video Step two: apply this knowledge on the court Step three: try not to forget what you just watched step four: break your phone on the court
I asked myself why did my friend say that my crush was OP at shooting 3's back at 6th grade, then I realized, I haven't actually been paying attention to what Professor has taught me unlike my crush when he practices. Point is, my friend was right about me cappable of being better than my crush if I do learn what I get. Btw, my crush has been playing since he was little, and I only started playing 2 1/2 years ago, and if I hadn't lost my shooting skills at 26th month I've been playing, I would've dominated but now, thanks to Professor, I'm getting all my shots back.
Professor has a consistent mid-range jumper. Even when he's losing my like eight to an opponent I feel pulled out those mid-range jumpers and get you frustrated! Some street ballers dribble wayy too much and Don't even score the basketball.
This very helpful for ppl to learn fundamental of shooting or someone change their form, but onething i got after watched alot of tutorial even deep details about shooting that the most important key to shooting basketball is... See more
