It is such a simple repair, and I think that's why not a whole lot of people cover it on YT. Even my auto instructor from HS didn't go much in depth on this repair. So glad Chris finally made a video, can't tell you how many cars I've had to sell just because I didn't know how to fix the wiper brakes.

This is a great video by Chris. I'm a master technician of 25 years. I had a customer last week saying that their wipers were clapping the windshield when the wipers moves back into the resting position, even with new wipers. Come to find out that the wiper rotors were warped. I changed them and the wipers were back to normal. And I also replaced their blinker fluid with a new type of liquid with reflective particles to make their blinkers more bright. They were very satisfied.

I made the mistake of not using DOT 3.5 blinker fluid when bleeding my wiper breaks and we all know in NJ inspection stations they check for wear and fluid level. Thanks again Chris for keeping me off track!😊 It's not like the old days when you had vacuum wipers when you pressed the gas pedal to the floor the wipers would just stop in the middle of the windshield.

A suggestion (for those car guys that have to replace these brake pads once in a while, I would know), NEVER reuse the original rotors! Always, ALWAYS replace them with the included rotor in the kit, this will prolong the life of your wiper resting position, as well as having the brakes have a nice even surface to grip on to, just a nice tip for those car guys out there.
Jackson Matheson
Jackson Matheson 21 gün önce
There's no point re-using them anyway imo. they ussually come in a full set anyway, no point re-using a rotor to save, what, $10.

There is this second brake pedal for the wiper brakes to the left of the main brake pedal on my 1982 Russian built Mikhail Olson SUV. The wiper brake petal is often to the right of the foot parking brake and is usually pretty much identical to it. Therefore, if you were to press the wiper brake pedal, the wipers would slow down. This is especially helpful when the wipers reach the A-pillars and you don't wanna scratch your paint. Edit: I later discovered that Mikhail later switched this pedal in the early 1990s with a hand operated lever upon the introduction of the second generation model. Although the wiper brakes in this model (alongside other models that use wiper brakes) usually stop the wipers prematurely, Mikhail ultimately had to recall the Olson for this exact reason in the late 1990s. In addition, the 3.6L Aspirin diesel engine offered as the sole diesel option by happenstance incurred the same faults as the later 6.0L Powerstroke diesel engine. Aside from this, wiper brakes were largely abandoned in cars manufactured by Mikhail by the late 1980s, and by the 2010s, some models even had wipers driven by direct-drive servomotors. This is all information I got from a salesman for a U.S. dealer.

Priceless! I'll have to replace my wiper brakes this weekend when I change the blinker fluid. When I go to get the parts, I'll take back the sheet metal screws I bought last week. Half of them had the heads on the wrong end. Edit: I was wrong on the screws. The ones with the head on the other end are for the other side of the car!

IAROTFLMAO!!! This is your best one yet! The attention to details is just amazing! The only thing you forgot to mention was that the pads will overheat and wear prematurely if you don't keep your washer bucket at least half full. Hey Chris, You have covered most if not all of the basics of car repair and one or two slightly more advanced repairs. I am wondering if you are willing to venture into a complete engine rebuild. I would love to hear your take on a few details of an engine rebuild. Specifically connecting rod bearings, machining crankshaft, boring the cylinder etc. These are all things i have attempted in the past and all failed catastrophically and all i learned from it was its cheaper to go get a used motor from the junkyard LOL.

At the dealership this is one of the first things recommended for replacement every ten thousands wipes. If they start to stick it could cause the car to pull to one side, becoming a safety hazard. I believe they have a special wiper fluid that helps, but you should still replace, just to make sure. For them to do it, it is pretty pricey. So pay attention !

I really should have watched this when it came out 😅 i had put it off, forgot about it and now i feel silly. Im only just starting my journey into the world of cars, after years of putting it off. Thanks for the laugh and all the help you provide with your videos, it has helped ease my nerves working on my 2008 xtrail. Respect to you, all the way from down under.

The timing on the wipers moving right when you need them to was amazing. Was someone hiding under the driver seat or did you just perfectly time it with your long your line was?

You’re a life saver ! Could you please make a video explaining how to change the indicator light oil? I notice a lot of cars with non-working indicators - probably due to lack of lubrication.

Awesome. All of your videos are great, because there precise, have all the information one would need to complete the job yourself and best of all, you dont waste anytime at all. But this video is my favorite, by far.

This was very nice to know. Hope you show us how to properly adjust the timing of the window regulator engines next year. Cause mine seems to be off and the windows are stuck.

Hi Chris, it would be really nice if you could make a video about basic tools that you need to have in order to fix car problems. If you have such a video, I would appreciate it if you could send me a link.

Nothing less than 100% commitment here. You can tell Chris is a man of integrity. Also, no time like now to change your blinker fluid, there's a video in here from around the same time of year showing that process.

Make sure you get the correct season of headlight fluid for your location. No one wants their head lights boiling over or freezing in the middle of a cruise

Please be extra careful when replacing blinker fluid, if it gets in your eye you might end up blinking for hours on end! Don't ask how i know...

Thanks so much for doing this video. I've been waiting so long for someone on youtube to show how to replace the windshield wiper brakes. Mine went bad about 6 months ago and I've been dealing with it for a while now, and I'm not ready to pay $600 to get them replaced. I always loved your channel. Could you also do a video on how to replace your spark plug coolant?

I enjoy every April fools day thanks to this channel. As someone who does lots of work on my personal vehicles I know that these are jokes. Yet somehow I begin to question myself with how detailed these videos are and start to think engines have return springs.

I always have my wiper rotors turned when I replace the pads. It’s a pain but worth it to prevent premature wear.

I prefer drum brakes for this application as they last much longer, although being in the UK there's plenty of rain to top up the atmospheric pressure water-cooled system drums come with :)

honestly just buy regular wiper brakes rather than slotted since they'll most likely last a lot longer and get more bang for your buck

Hi Chris! I regularly follow you on your Chanel , and for the first time, i was very sceptical about ( wiper brakes) , because for me, it seems like a simple joke of the first April, because I remember the work i did on my 2004 Pontiac Vibe, just for replace the rusty and broken wiper transmission linkage and adjust the wiper arms at the same time and the mechanic was more simple thant that. I finally must admit that i was totally wrong about it, but i am at the same time very happy to not have that système on my car!😂👍
