so much respect for the animators, they did a fantastic and realistic effects of lion king. i am so happy and grateful for the scene effects that was totally brilliant. Great respect for you guys. thank you so much for the efforts and talents you showed in this industry.
Say whatever you want about how bad the remake is, I still think the CGI looks awesome and at least is worth a great deal of appreciation as the crew behind it spent hundreds even thousands of hours of dedication, specialty, and professionalism on the project.
@Don jon favreau has absolutely no knowledge of what made the original lion king so amazing, he knows it's amazing, but doesn't know why, and it shows in every frame of this disgusting remake.
@nnitro It's like this, you can also have a video game, you can put as much effort to making it look realistic, but in the end what matters most is story, and since there is lack of originality and mood to the film it's trash.
@85stumpen A lot of people always have an extreme despise towards live-action Disney films because these films are cash-grabs that not only it can't surpassed the animated movies, but it can also tarnish the legacy of Walt Disney and his amazing works that changed animation forever and that's not what he wants, which I can do understand what others are saying. Disney, a wealthy company, might be hated for its greed, but at least in the behind the scenes, the people working on live-action remakes are trying their best to replicate the animated films into something fresh, but all the hard work cost them nothing. I do understand what the audience thought about the live-action remakes, but they can be snobbish sometimes when it comes to nostalgia. Bob Iger is, of course, a huge middle finger to Walt Disney's legacy as a CEO.
Can we just appreciate how much hard work the animators put into this for everyone? I mean, 70 *million hours.* You can't not respect all the hard work they put into this amazing animation that is *so realistic.*
In my opinion its a good movie even if its a remake, yes I love the old one but the work put in this movie was exellent, I RESPECT THEIR EFFORTS in making it. Despite the constant critism that they recieved from critics and viewers alike...
The movie didn't move me as it did when I first saw the animated one as a kid but man the technology they used to make it is phenomenal. In fact that was what excited me the most when watching the new movie.
@Caitlin This is as animated as it gets. Just one plate and the rest of the shots are entirely CG. At the end of the day, it's an animation, just really realistic and expensive.
Love or hate the film, you have to respect the level of detail and work put into the film. For me it was breath taking, I will always be loyal to the original animated release but this remake was beautiful, i love it separately as its own stand alone film. It could be my biased for lions and conservation but for me it was well worth the wait.
@LightStreak567 Let's be real. It's animation, not live action. Purpose of animation is to create something that realism does not have. There WAS a purpose why they put those human features on their faces and it was big part of the animation's beauty. You're just making a point to defend the film while forcing audience to enjoy the animation in a way most people don't.
I think I liked it because they used more body movements, instead it facial expressions which wouldn’t make it deal real. If your gonna make them have full on facial expressions you might as well just rerelease the original.
@LightStreak567 these people will never understand. It is literally impossible to animate realistic animals with human expressions without it becoming uncanny and strange. Though, when people look at something that is talking with a mouth, they expect some kind of expression. Especially when singing. But I just hate the argument “they weren’t expressive enough” there literally is nothing to express, and I swear to god no one better try to compare to the lion from Narnia.
Essentially a shot-for-shot remake except lacking all of the personality of the original. However, no one can deny that this movie absolutely looks freaking incredible. Too bad it had to be for a blatant cash grab though
@Zed and even this "realism" looks so ugly today, it does not hold up, there are so many shots where an object looks so fake based on how it moves and the textures, not to mention the voice acting and the music, which were all absolute dogshit, even james earl jones was really bad as mufasa in this remake because he's so old he can barely read his lines
@Just Jonathan Sure but again, for more accurate body movements you would be sacrificing facial expressions which are supposed to express emotions and make the audience feel better connected to them. Having the audience connect with the characters is important if you want a audience to stay engaged and not get bored.

Actually, ALL of it was CGI = vs the logistics of travelling to Africa to film footage makes no sense; lots of films going back 20+ years have created digital backgrounds as it's either illogical or expensive to film certain places.
I watched this movie a few days ago and was memorized by the CGI detail. Walt Disney always pushed the envelope when it came to the smallest details of his animation back in the day. This is obviously no different and an amazing example of pushing the limits of the art of annimation. Walt would have been proud...
I am still absolutely amazed by this movie. Currently studying animation/vfx at uni, hoping to break into the industry after graduating, and even now after 2 years of full time study I still have no idea how they did this. I'm just blown away and can only dream of working on something this perfect in the future!
Although a lot of people hated on lion king, even if a live action wasn't necessary, we should still acknowledge the realism of the CGI, because almost EVERYTHING in that movie was animated
@raemey Not to mention they made the characters do unrealistic movements but wouldn’t do the same to give them more facial expression in moments where emotional expression should have been a primary concern
@raemey as someone who was obsessed with lion king especially lion king 2. The live action version although impressive in my opinion wasn’t the greatest. Yes it was very similar but just the colors alone kinda made it meh. In the original they went crazy with colors in songs such as “I just can’t wait to be king” and I felt they could have carried that over. Almost like a Mary Poppins injection. But I think that would have been amazing to see a super hyper realistic scene. Not only that but in the original there was so many theatrical elements that brought interest and drama! Where was that in the new film? When Mufasa does simba’s expression was so blank they could have strayed away from being realistic in moment like these to bring emotion and emphasis, other than the music and voice actors doing it alone. I could go on and on. Yes it was impressive but there was a lot of things in my personal opinion they could have done differently
It is amazing how they made actually real looking lions with te characteristics of each character, but I feel that all the animals including the lions look kind of stiff sometimes, this can be more appretiated when you see clips of this movie in low resolution. I have the feeling that Aslan in Narnia was much better done in this aspect, you can feel the weight of his enormous body in every step he takes

I'm in so much physical pain seeing that all these animators and vfx artists put so much effort into what they were doing... all in the wrong damn places. Because at the end of the day this isn't the lion king. This is a nat geo documentary.
@Just Jonathan Exactly. Each one can have their own preference. Cartoon or live action. So really, people are just upset because their preference is the cartoon but then don't blame the story line because it is the exact same.
I think I liked it because they used more body movements, instead it facial expressions which wouldn’t make it feel real. If your gonna make them have full on facial expressions you might as well just rerelease the original.
@Arenic It was just really weird getting two @s from the same old comment on the same day. Also they both felt unnecessarily targeted even if they didn't actually say anything bad.
The main thing I liked about the original was it was animated in 2D and has more personality. In this movie, I like how beautifully it rendered like it is one the best CGI film
This is mindblowing work! I think all the bad reviews for the film are mostly due people feeling nostalgic about the original. If someone were to see this today without knowing the original they would rate it the same as The Jungle Book or higher.
@SkittleCornNation You the one who keep responding.. why am I gonna entertain myself making a comeback to your statement. You really over here arguing with people in the comments for what. Go eat some hard candy bye.
@Emerald Diamonds I'm pretty that's why ppl hate anime watchers so much. We're not all like that trust me. You should definitely give anime a try but if you don't like it then you don't like it
@Mr. Friendship Exactly, I was told “I hate you” by one of my friends just because I said I didn’t like anime (I don’t like nightcore either). It’s so messed up how people will hate you for telling them how you feel about something
@crowpancakes That's called opinion. Sure, you don't like the movie and it's fine. But trying to call someone out for liking something and making them feel like a bad person is not a healthy way to conversate. I don't like the movie because it has some problems, but it doesn't mean I attack someone for having an opinion. Better watch out with your words, buddy. I don't care what everyone, like you, said, but everyone has different views and paths, and they have the rights to have their own statements to choose whether they like it or not.
Unfortunately, I found the remake really bad! I was missing almost any magic !!! The film was made far too realistic and seems more like a "documentary" to me! But it is still interesting to see how such a film is made.
they really used their knowledge and intelligence to make this film , but what they really forgot was emotions ,expressions, love ,evil and goodness. The main reason lion king was so famous among populace was the characters emotions , the eyes of nala when she spent's romantic evening with simba showed lust in the womans eyes , the face and eyes of scar showed the evil , the maine of mufasa with his eyebrows in an upward arrow showed the boldness of a father and his expectation in his son . There were so many things which were beyond technology which represents the different beauties in life which I don't think improved technology can solve , it needs creative art and understanding of life.
Okay, well. It's cool that technology has come that far, so we can a whole movie just from Computer animated animals (maybe humans too), but I (personally) think that the modern Lion King reminds me more of a documentary, than a Disney movie. The characters barely show emotions, it all looks so real, but it's actually unnecessary, because the animation was on point and it just looks like, that Disney just throws all of the beautiful animations away, just to make some hyper realistic things out of it... and uses it for money...
A state of art, this movie ! A universal capodopera ! A milestone for every child in that world! Congratulations for the teams who worked on this movie!
Yeah the technology is quite a feat for sure. But it still lacks emotion. We shouldnt get so obsessed with reality that we sacrifice the art of animation.
It’s sad that everyone hated this so much, it was an amazing and a beautiful masterpiece. However most of the people who didn’t like it weren’t as absorbed into art and focusing on how much effort was put into it as much as we are :(
Even though it’s nice to see the animators working hard at what they do, we can’t deny that this movie was just another jab at Disney running out of ideas. This movie could’ve been even good if they had tried to make the animals more expressive like the owls from the Guardians of Ga’Hoole while adding some new stuff that wasn’t included in the original
0:01 I've Been To See The Live Action Remake Of Disney's The Lion King Last Year Back In July 31st 2019 And It Was A Huge Big Box Office Smash Hit. This Live Action Disney Movie Will Beat Disney's Frozen The Original Classic's Box Office Record In 2013 Along With Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets The Movie In 2002 From Warner Bros Family Entertainment. Disney's The Lion King The Live Action Remake Is One Of My Favourites Along With Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame In 1996 And Of Course Disney's The Lion King The Original Classic In 1994 And It's From The Disney Renaissance Series From The Makers Of Disney's Aladdin In 1992 Alongside Disney's The Little Mermaid In 1989 And Finely Disney's Beauty And The Beast In 1991. Thanks Mate. It's The Circle Of Life And It's Moves Us All. PS I've Can't Wait To Watch This Movie On Disney Plus Channel. X
I’ll save you some time and tell you how it was animated right now They put all the budget into detailing the smallest things and then realised they didn’t have enough money to animate the facial expressions
I saw this in theaters with a 2 year old in the row behind me narrating the whole movie and when Mufasa died. Omggggggg. “DADDYS DEAD, MOOOOOM DADDY DIEDDDDD” he then cried for a half hour and when when Simba tried to wake mufasa up after he died. The kid goes “DADDY,WAKE UP DADDY”. Oml he was crying and still narrated the movie
@Shadow Lazarus It really isn't a movie made for babies. It isn't targeted toward kids. It's just a movie that kids can watch because it doesn't have tons of violence etc. In it.
@Jess Reyes You were a kid If you say you hate them you are saying you wished they never existed but if they didn't, then well.... how do I explain this because they eventually turn into adults! It's not like if I say "I hate warthogs" because I am saying I hate the species. But if I said that I hate baby warthog, that wouldn't make sense.
I actually went into this movie expecting to hate it (was so obsessive about the original) but ended up loving it. I remember going to see that live action 101 Dalmatians as a kid and figured sooner or later they would an attempt a live-action Lion King someday.
Always such an injustice that artists work so much harder, than the writers or directors who choose what happens in terms of story and decision making. They're the ones who make the movie terrible.
Many disliked how it seemed like a documentary but I actually loved that, it's a different take on the story telling that i respect a lot. In my opinion it works amazingly well, and still has a ton of emotion without the cartoony expressions.
Here is my question: But why? Why not write a new movie with this amazing technology. A cool new story. Then I might have actually watched the movie. I have no desire to do so, but I'd like to see that technology in an interesting story that isn't a bad remake.
how tragic that all this amazing effort and talent was put into such a disappointing film. There is a beauty and essence in animation that aren’t always necessarily meant to be brought to real life just for the sake of making more money lol
I was never a fan of animated movies which I always found to be too much over the top on the fascial expressions etc. That is the reason why i enjoyed the remake of the lion king even if i'm one of few.
I love animals, and I appreciate animal behavior and behavior in general. I never saw the original Lion King (sorry!), so I went in with no preconceptions. This was truly a great blend of realism and classic Disney animation values that will I think stand the test of time. It is a remarkable achievement and I can tell how much love was put into each frame, each movement, and each expression of the animals. How much do I love animals and animal behavior? I have a BSc in zoology and PhD in neuroscience, and I'm still in awe of how they recreated and gave anthropomorphic life to the animals in this motion picture. Anything that brings greater love of nature and wildlife I believe is good for all of us...well done Disney!
Dumbo, Beauty ATB, Maleficent, Aladdin, Jungle Book = amazing remakes. Lion King, Pete's Dragon (to date) = nightmarish, soul-less for kids + WTF for people young & older who saw the originals. "Oh, we (Disney) just can't wait to make cash!"
All this hard work, attention to detail, dedication to realism, processing superpower, and appreciation of natural beauty, but they couldn't render the creatures with goddamn nipples or anuses or testes.
We used to live in India in rural India, Once we were watching Lord of the rings about 10 years ago. A maid who was watching the gollum , watched it for a while, turned to me and said that thus person might have done sins so that the god cursed him to be that structure. Pretty convincing animation.
