Even if they sealed the windows, they wouldn't have infinite air) Plus, they can build infinite rocket ships and find infinitely many planets exactly like earth.

@Kopi Tarik If there are also infinitely many guests in the hotel and they occupy all rooms starting from 1, then all rooms are of course occupied. You can still move the guests around to make room for more guests, since the hotel has infinitely many rooms... but only countably infinitely many, so the uncountably infinite party bus will never fit, even if all rooms were unoccupied.

@Kopi Tarik I'm not sure I understand your question fully, but the problem is comparing infinities, so you have infinite guests and infinite rooms, in theory all rooms are already occupied, so there is no empty room. By readmitting all guests to new rooms we show that in fact both infinities have the same size. This is the peculiar part, we create space where before there was no, so we practically "stretch" an infinitely long discrete distance, which by itself remains infinite to make space for new points.

@daniel smith they aren’t hacking anything, they’re doing maths with the Infinite, which can be counter-intuitive. Here is the thing. “generate” here is an unhelpful notion. In the video, he doesn’t “generate” a new Abba, he exposes one *which should already be accounted for* and isn’t. What the video shows is that some infinite sets are “as big as” one another, while others infinite sets are “bigger”. For instance, the set of positive numbers {1, 2, 3, 4…} is the same size as the set of nonnegative integers {0, 1, 2, 3…} because we can associate each element of the first set to a single element of the second set, by doing -1. That’s the first exemple, when he shows that a full Hilbert hotel can accommodate one more person. The set of natural numbers is as big as the set of natural numbers plus one element. In other words, infinity=infinity+1. The set of natural numbers is also as big as two copies of the set of natural numbers. That’s the second exemple, when he shows that a full Hilbert hotel can accommodate a full Hilbert bus. In other words, infinity=2*infinity. The set of natural numbers is also the same size as an infinite number of copies of the set of natural numbers. That’s the exemple with the infinite number of buses. In other words, infinity=infinity². Now, what’s more tricky is that there are bigger infinities. For instance, the set of all infinite sequences of As and Bs is bigger than the set of natural numbers. There are an equal number of even, odd and natural numbers. Twice of countable infinity is still countable infinity aka aleph null, in fact countable infinity times countable infinity can't even reach uncountable infinity of real numbers i.e aleph 1. Then there are bigger infinities still. Inaccessible cardinal is to aleph 1 what infinity is to any finite number. There is Mahlo cardinal, Woodin cardinal and Berkeley cardinal. And none of these compare to the monster of absolute infinity.

Just use an infinite take-a-number ticket dispenser. Have all the existing guests move to double their numbers, then back one room, so they're now in all the odd-numbered rooms. Next, have the ABBAs enter the hotel in arbitrary order. They each take a ticket, then double the number on it to get their room number. The first guest takes a ticket. It says #1, so they get room #2. And so on for infinity. I think this shows that the distinction of using "unique names" instead of "unique numbers" is just smoke and mirrors. Any infinite set becomes countably infinite when you, you know, count it. Am I missing something here?

Here is the thing. Let’s assume we use your method for just 2 Hilbert buses (not ABBA busses, just infinite buses.) Everyone on the first bus can get a ticket. However, it would take infinite time just to finish the first bus, which means that nobody on the second bus ever gets a room. There is a way of accommodating everyone on both buses, but you have to be smarter. For instance, assuming you first make an infinite number of free rooms, you can put the first person of the first bus to the first available room, then the first person of the second bus in the second room, then the second person of the first bus and so on. Now, with the party bus, it’s the same thing except we can’t be smart. There is no way to accommodate everyone. Also, keep in mind that there is no natural order of the people in the party bus. We can choose a first one, let's say the guy with only As in his name, but you have to make a choice for who is the second guy, then a choice for who is the third etc. You can’t just count them “in order”, because there would need to be a canonical order, and there can’t be.

This is a very common procedure in math called proof by contradiction, he assumes there's a way of fitting everyone in and them shows, that at least one person is missing, which is a contradiction and proves the statement. 2. Follows from the proof of contradiction. It doesn't even work with only one bus without seats, because that bus represents an uncountable infinity

This is actually solveable, you can simply put number 1 for the letter A and number 2 for the letter B then whoever shows up you'll always have a room number for them

Sadly not, because even if the hotel has infinitely many rooms, no room has an infinitely long room number, which would be required

I think I have a solution. I tell everyone in the hotel to move the amount of occupied rooms plus their room number forward. As they have to move infinite rooms forward, we make infinite vacant rooms, to fit in all people in the last bus.

@CJBox It isn't that surprising, and there is a reason why it seems to happen to a lot people. Think about how many different comments you read and how many different videos you watch. According to statistics, you are bound to encounter a comment that overlaps with your current video time. It just seems common because we only think about the times it does occur and never about the times it doesn't. It would actually be way more surprising if that never happens to you.
