Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special - Reaction 

I love that they revealed that Yondu only started collecting the figures on his console BECAUSE of Quill. He gave him the first one, and he just started collecting them afterwards.

I like that Nebula got Rocket a gift. They were the only two not to get snapped away, so they must have bonded over the five years between Infinity War and Endgame. And the fact that she somehow acquired Bucky's arm is hilarious!

We really needed an end-credits scene with Bucky waking up to find his arm is missing. 😄

How pom & Karen kept straight faces with "get over the zarg nuts" & "you can't outrun me bacon" I will never know

The reveal that Mantis was Quill’s sister was going to be in Guardians 2 but they cut it. Glad they included it here

BEST HOLIDAY SPECIAL EVER!!! The sight of Rocket getting Bucky’s arm and tearing up was both heartwarming and hilarious. And I loved that we found out Peter and Mantis are siblings!

This holiday special made me appreciate Mantis a lot more. Now I'm worried about her fate in the third film.

I so wish there was a post credit scene of Bucky, in a Christmas hat, sitting on Sam's couch with one arm like "I don't want to talk about it"

This special was great. There's a scene in Guardians 2 at about 1:27:20 where Ego is talking about how he had children with all the species he came across. If you pause it during his presentation where it shows him with all the different species, you can see him with a woman of Mantis's species in the upper left I think. It was kind of an easter egg. They didn't say it explicitly. The only reason I had a hint of it before I saw this special is because New Rockstars made a breakdown video for Guardians 2 and I think they mentioned it. It makes sense. Ego was having a difficult time sleeping and Mantis could put him to sleep. It's also really dark if you think about it. He murdered all his other children because they weren't useful. Mantis lucked out.

We need the Marvel Supertroupers, Kingo, Simon Williams, Trevor Slattery, the Asgardian Amateur Dramatic Society all led by Kevin Bacon in a Special, to redeem the acting profession.

The ending with Mantis and Quill was one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever seen!

You don't get how dangerous Mantis is until this special. She has powers that are close to Killgrave's in Jessica Jones.

Don't worry about being a sap Jay, I was crying non stop from the moment they lit up the lights for Peter.

I loved the animated scenes with Yondu. James Gunn confirmed they were all shot on film with Michael Rooker and then rotoscoped frame by frame.

This was an absolute joy. James Gunn is a mastermind. Guardians 3 is gonna hit us like a brick.

The added touch of Mr. Bacon watching the best-worst Christmas movie ever is fantastic. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) is one of my favs.

So a few things: - While they never established the sibling connection before, it was heavily theorized as soon as Vol. 2 came out because in the movie, when Ego shows the mannequins of all the women he's knocked up, there's a woman of Mantis' species. We're also told that Ego has killed all of his children before & Mantis states that Ego keeps her alive because she can use her powers to overcome Ego's insomnia - Cosmo's a good girl! James Gunn tweeted that he made Cosmo female as a tribute to Laika, the dog the Soviets sent to space in real life. Cosmo even has the Soviet space program initials on her uniform here. And yes, she'll be in Vol. 3 (officially confirmed at Comic Con 2022, even before we knew she was in this special) - James Gunn also tweeted that Nebula went to Earth around the same time Mantis & Drax did, fought Bucky and took off his vibranium arm specifically to give to Rocket. Which means Bucky will have a new arm when he's a Thunderbolt. Might be a blessing in disguise that he no longer has a vibranium arm while doing missions for Val, since she's all about acquiring vibranium at all costs.

This special is silly, and fun, but the ending really got to me with Pom Klementieff acting.

3:55 Fairytale of New York by The Pogues an Anglo-Irish Celtic punk band. This song is pretty much played in every Irish/British household at Christmas extremally well known where I live. It's my favourite Christmas song but I'm not sure if it's well known outside of United Kingdom/Ireland. Perfect song for Peter and Yondu's relationship. I need more Mantis! She is so sweet, which goes really well with her occasional angry yelling. Great special!

That appears to be Quills first year with him and the first of Yondu's little creatures. It could be that every single one of them was a Christmas gift from Quill.

Not gonna lie, I cried like a bitch from the point where Kevin Bacon decided to stay. This was adorable from start to finish. Even the part where Drax was beating the shit outta a go bots cosplayer. I have a new holiday classic

This was so touching especially since Peter literally lost his whole family, and any family figure before this event. Definitely makes this hit harder by the end.

I love how Groot’s CGI was so good in this that so many people seem to think it was practical! Nice to see Marvel can still put out quality cg.

I feel like the Groot costume is a callback to the Star Wars Holiday Special, which James loves and has said repeatedly was the whole reason he wanted to do this show, and was centered around Chewbacca's family so there were people running around in Wookiee costumes. Same with the rotoscoped animation, which, in the SW Special, was used to introduce Boba Fett for the first time.

With Groot being raised on a ship with Quill, Drax, and Rocket, I can see why he is so buff.

"I'm such a sap!" "Aaahhhh! This is is so stupid and I love it!" I literally said both of these while watching this with my family. 🤣

The amount of music you had to mute added an extra level of comedy to the whole thing.

Mantis going all xenomorph jumping on the walls chasing Kevin Bacon is terrifying.

I think they redesigned Groot specifically so he can start showing up as a character in Disney parks.

After the epicness of several shows and movies (House of Dragon, Andor, Wakanda Forever, etc.), this felt like a nice peppermint joyful taste

This special was pure joy. I want to watch it every year.

Now I want to see a Holiday Special next year with Deadpool & She-Hulk establishing that Santa Claus is the most powerful mutant in the MCU!😮👍😉

It was the perfect blend of comedy, schmaltz and some genuine sentiment. Also, because of James Gunn, it has a terrific Christmas playlist.

This was such a fun holiday special, and I loved how hilarious Drax and Mantis were throughout it.

Definitely one of my favorite things in a while! With She-Hulk ended and only having Andor, I was glad to have something funny and entertaining again! It was so good!

fun fact: groot is completely cgi still! a lot of people thought it was a practical suit, which really is a testament to how good his cgi looks

Mantis being Ego's daughter was very obvious/heavily inplied in the second film. You see a figurine of her mother in those exposition egg pods

Groot actually isn’t practical, he’s all CGI according to James Gunn. Looks like they are going for a man-in-suit look, so it feels more practical

Something people missed I think is that the gift Peter gives to Yondu is his first little doll. It's what started the tradition of collecting them, not because he liked them before!

Mantis and Drax were significantly changed from Comics to Movies - but this is the first time we've seen Mantis' martial arts skills, which is who and what she primarily was originally. The emotion and "push" powers were added. Also, Drax can fly in the comics and was a human artificially changed to be the ultimate enemy of Thanos.

Been waiting for this! It's such a fun little Christmas "movie".

I agree with your suggestion on an annual MCU Christmas Special tradition. I have long championed the idea of Star Wars also doing Holiday Specials each year, but not Life Day-themed, just a one-off hour-long story that doesn't warrant a series or feature film. Use it to play with ideas or resurrect abandoned projects.

I think that when they were showing the dioramas of all the places Ego had "planted his seed" I think that one of them showed an "insectoid" family.

This was my absolute favorite Marvel thing to come out this year. I believe Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 comes out in May 2023.

For the Christmas-averse, such as I, this was perfect - much like Nightmare before Christmas before it, the story follows characters who are learning about Christmas rather than just celebrating, and there's something about that formula that's just way more palatable...

By saying they bought Knowhere from the Collector that confirms hes still alive and didnt get killed by Thanos in Infinity War. They did a lot of little things like this in this special and i enjoy Marvel doing that more now.

Mantis is just so adorable here Batista would make a good pre 2018 God of War Kratos if he can't land the Gears of War gig. I'm going to miss James Gunn's contributions to the MCU. Very excited to see what can he do for the DCEU though

Thanks, Jay and Adam. This gave me exactly what I needed. Now, I guess, Kevin Bacon is part of The MCU, and the whole 6 Degrees Of Kevin Bacon thing is true in both realities. And, We know that The Guardians, The Avengers, and S.H.I.E.L.D. (imagine Sam Jackson and Bacon sharing scenes together?!) can rely on him, now, on Earth, when they show up.

I really thought this was how they were going to introduce his volume 3 for the next films soundtrack but nvm it was lots of fun and heartfelt!

Yondu loved Peter through and through, the scene with the little toy troll was, I think, the first time Yondu really recognized it and showed it. It doesn't take blood or genetics to make a dad, it takes love, miles and miles of love.
