If you think about it, it also probably let them get away with more. For example, in a PG film, I doubt Sony would have allowed Spider-Man getting his chest crushed by Kingpin. But since he's so big, he pretty much covers the entire body so kids can't see anything, which would help with getting permission to add such a brutal scene to this kid's movie.
One minor detail that I loved in this movie. When Doc Ock reveals who she is, she puts her hair up in a bun and it makes her head look more octopus like. Just a neat little visual effect.
it’s also a fun thematic change that can be explained practically. she’s got mechanic tentacles, she wouldn’t want her hair getting caught up in it and either messing up the tech or hurting and distracting her. i love when lil design choices are also things that just make sense
@Andrej Z89 It’s either a reference to the movie ‘Tall Girl’ or it’s just something random that’s supposed to throw you off, subvert expectations and make you laugh. Surprise is the number one tool in a comedians toolkit.
When Blondie pete says "There is only 1 spiderman" 7 birds fly past him highlighting the number of spider-people in the movie Edit: Damn i didn't think this would get 1K likes Coming back after 10 months
The part that always gets me is when Aunt May tells Peter that he looks tired and he confirms it. With him loosing his May and her loosing her Peter this small exchange always makes me choke up. Favorite scene in my favorite movie.
I think my favourite detail in the film is from the Prowler reveal scene. Notice how the music doesn't kick in and become super intense when Aaron takes his hood off; that happens when we see Miles' reaction. The music wasn't there to nail home the twist for the audience, it was there to show us how Miles is feeling.
that actually reminds me of Vulture's reveal in Spider-Man homecoming. the music went from being upbeat and reflecting Peter's cheery vibes to just completely dropping the second the door opened. no dramatic "sinister" sound to foreshadow as peter waited outside, it just completely cut out all together, then slowly picked up as something reflective of Peter's tension and panic.
I love how much diversity this movie had. And even more, how they normalized it. It makes people who are like that feel like they can relate to these characters even more.
Oh and one more thing: Anyone can relate to these characters. That's the kicker. When you build a characters entire personality off *what* they are, make that the point, well... they just aren't relatable to a lot of people. It's representation, but for people with a different experience it doesn't mean anything to them. It doesn't bring them closer to these characters. Another way this did that right where many don't. Miles draws you in, even when, to the outside observer, you are nothing like him.
It was really good. Humanizing. When movies call attention to *what* the characters are over *who* they are... that just has the opposite effect. It says they are in the "other" box. I totally get what he says about the forced diversity, so counter to what it should be. But when a movie like this just treats people like people, as it should be, it is just so much more positive and genuine. Just another way this movie proved it's quality.
I completely agree! I love how they made them all different and unique but at the same time incredibly relatable on some way. I'm not black for example, but I could relate to Miles on so many levels, his artistic spirit, the feeling of being overwhelmed with expectations and wanting to run away, but eventually growing and taking the leap of faith into becoming who i want to be. Or the fact that i speak Spanish too XD. And that's with everyone! They're all either really relatable or really cool. And I'm glad that now everyone can have a spiderman they can relate to and look up to. Another win for this movie!
My one issue with this movie (and it’s one of my favorites ever) is how they gloss over Gwen’s trauma. When Peter (burnt out) sees MJ, we get a whole thing about how he’s sorry and how he still loves her and such, but when Gwen sees Peter for the first time, her friend, who died, who is also a spider person, nothing. They never even acknowledge that she’s seeing her dead friend, but we get a whole goofy thing about peters love interest. Just kinda bums me out.
i think your right tho, but they didnt need it to make the movie great and i dont think there was any way they could have made it as meaningful with the relationships the spidergang had, plus i think it might make for great emotional beats in the next movie
Since she gets blown into the past in Miles's timeline, she actually has to go through Peter dying a second time, which has to be tough. But bear in mind that Peter B Parker is around twenty years older than her Peter, so it's not exactly like seeing her friend in the flesh again.
My fav thing I found out about this movie is that the entire movie was animated at 24 frames per sec except Miles who was at 12 frames a second. It shows how new and clumsy he is with his new spider powers, but by the final fight, he is finally animated at 24 fps as well. You can really tell how jerky he is when they escape doc oct’s lab and are swinging side by side
@Saket Bakshi exactly, that didn’t have very good fight scenes and pacing, though it’s better directed than the average MCU movie. I actually think Spider-Verse Kingpin is my favourite Spider-Man movie villain because not only is he threatening, but has all the silliness of a Raimi villain.
@J McAuley I'd argue it might be one of the best movies of all time. Yeah, there's cheesy shit in it. It's animated (in the most bonkers way possible). Yet, there's many layers of the deeper aspects of life for every stage through the human experience. Trust in others, in self, letting go, adversity, loss, love, sacrifice, how anyone can be a hero, ect.
@Saket Bakshi nwh was awesome and imo tom should have won an oscar. However, spiderverse is beyond words. If a genie granted me a wish I'd wish to rewatch it for the first time on acid again.
@Saket Bakshi it’s garbage. What shittery was NWH. So cringe and boring. My friends were on their phones 85% of the show. Like spiderman trying to turn villains into good guys? Seriously? 🤣🤣🤣
I tear up every time for that scene.. Its so very meaningfully deep in every little detail from the glass breaking to the camera turning upside down to symbolize miles rising up. Its a masterpiece
It took me long while to notice this but when all the spider guys are glitching in peters bat man like basement I noticed that spider noir was glitching in black and white which was a nice touch sense he’s in black and white
Personally a huge thing for me is Noir having the worst origin story (huge nightmares about spider totems, uncle Ben being cannibalized, the Great Depression, etc) but acknowledging that Miles’ still is hardcore as well
Hahah that’s funnie because he’s referencing an actual comedic cartoon series with comedic purpose instead of satirically breaking the 4th wall for comedic effect and making copyright jokes as if Sony isn’t a money hungry copystriking company
You missed the fact that in the first trilogy (Maguire’s trilogy), the spiderwebbing was a major part of the opening/ending scenes. It was an allusion to the first trilogy. The fact that they used that “zooming through an infinite collection of spiderwebs” thing with the multiverse travel shot in first place was pretty awesome. I love that it also was fractals of time and space showing through for every single alternate universe, appearing as one chaotic spiderweb with no true direction. Because, well, spiders build their webs based off of gravitational and light direction.
Little detail that probably only I care about, when Miles takes his leap of faith and just before the glass breaks, if you go through the frames you can see that the glass actually looks like water just before it shatters, I love this so much even if you can only see this if you really love looking hidden details.
Did anyone else brake down crying in the theater when you saw the Stan Lee cameo, it hit me like a train that when he said the suit fits eventually and the way they had it framed so he was talking right to the audience. I thought it would hurt seeing him in other movies after this but I rewatch this movie and the Toby trilogy and had a blinding moment of happiness seeing him. RIP Stan, one of the most influential icons of many generations.
14:04 also another thing to add; for this scene they mix in the Prowler's lietmotif in the background with Miles' theme and I just love the message of that, that his uncles death is one thing that keeps him going and that he is a part of Miles' identity. its awesome
Notice how in miles or Peter Parker’s universe it says “Koca-Soda” (0:55) but in Peter B. Parker’s universe it says “Coca Cola” (7:38). Great attention to detail Sony.
Fun fact: The directors of this film were fired by Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy off of Solo for "creative differences." They later worked on this film and won an Oscar for this masterpiece, while Solo lost money
@Miles Morales - Into the Spider-Verse I mean, yes, of course! KK still hasn't learned her lesson after that. She digs in her heels with her nonsense and infected hard to mess up projects.
As a Spider-Man work, Spider-Verse is the most authentic Marvel Movie ever made. As one of the very few AAA meta-works, Spider-Verse is the most fan-aware movie ever made. As "Sequential Art: The Movie", Spider-Verse is the most complete manual ever made. As a tribute to their original creators, Spider-Verse is the best fan homage ever made. Artistically and thematically, Spider-Verse is undoubtely the best movie ever made. It's so good to be alive in this era.
I get goosebumps and freeze everytime I hear Mike's theme. It's so heroic and it really fits Miles trying to be a Spiderman he's not, while realizing he can be his own Spiderman
I’m sooo glad I didn’t know Uncle Aaron was The Prowler because when he took off his mask I straight up died inside, the music, Miles reaction, it was a great scene.
Some of this movie's most hilarious scenes are when you pause at Peni's different facial expressions and take a good look at them. Like you said, it's incredible how well they managed to integrate her style in a 3d animated movie.
One tiny detail that I love about the Leap of Faith scene is that earlier Miles says he's better at running than at swinging in webs. Later, when he crosses the city to get in the collider we see that he does a lot more of free running/parkour than any of the spiders, almost like the Prowler if he had webshooters. Just amazing
One thing I love about this movie that no one talks about is the fact that Doc Oc makes educational science videos on the side of her supervillain hustle. Imagine being a superhero, getting an alert about a bank robbery or something, and you get there and the villian is Bill Nye!
I’m sure you noticed this, but the fact that the number 42 REPEATEDLY shows up in the film (the number of the slider that bit him) is something I love so so much
My favorite part of the movie is porkers line “you can’t save everyone” it’s heartwrenching, especially when you realize all of them has lost someone important to them, whether it be a family member, or a friend
Another thing is that when Miles is first learning to be spider man, he's animated at half the frames during action sequences so he looks choppy and not as clean as the other spider people
@Slevin Channel I'm sorry, I know I'm late but calling this movie's visuals a fail? That's like calling Akira a fail. These two movies are at the same caliber of being revolutionary.
Spider verse is Peter Parker story . Miles Morales is least visible charachter in the Spider verse comics . There are bigger Spider charachters in Spiderverse comics with great importance.
I only just watched this movie (like LITERALLY just finished; Im aware Im super late) and MAN this movie exceeds the hell out of its expectations. I immediately want to watch it again. It made me cry. And it is so GORGEOUS.
Every time i watch miles leap of faith scene i get a little teary eyed. Like the inclusion of his idols and guardians words of encouragement as he takes that leap. Or as mentioned how he rises through the scene or rises up to the challenge, with whats up danger playing in the background. The fact that his hands still stick to the glass. Theres just so much about that scene that is written so right.
The part where Miles' dad is talking to him at the door is the part that always gets me. For most of my life I've also felt like an "other", and its only really in recent years when my dad started to say stuff similar to what was said in that scene. So in a way, I connect with Miles personally in that scene, and being in a situation like that, it feels almost impossible to take that leap into the unknown. You have to trust in yourself that you will survive the leap and come away from it better, and that's really the part I have the most trouble with nowadays.
The broken glass followed by the upside down camera to show miles rising up is potentially the most profoundly deep piece of character development ever depicted in an animated comic book movie. This whole movie is imo a beautiful masterpiece with very few noticeable flaws
This is easily my favorite Spider-Man movie, personally the only thing I didn’t care for was the pig but otherwise this was perfect. The characters are completely relatable as individuals and we aren’t constantly reminded of ràce.
Surprisingly I just now noticed that when Miles jumps off the building when he first uses his powers, the song repeats the word DANGER, DANGER, DANGER, emphasizing how dangerous the jumps is or it could be Miles telling himself that it is dangerous. I am shocked that it took me years to notice this.
I have been making a lot of my friends watch this movie. My bro and his friend and I are just in love with this movie. They are in love with Gwen, but that's not the point. I even gave this to my teacher to watch. This move has so many great things in it: the characters, the growth, the scenes, the animation, the cultural literacy, EVERYTHING! There is nothing to dislike. What a show-stopper
@FlameCentralYT it is. I think The Game Theorists (or Film, I don't remember which) had an episode on the topic. Yeah, probably The Film Theorists, 'cause it's tied to Men in Black (obviously, duh). And what they're saying is: the technology exists. Maybe it's not too perfect yet, but it kinda already works. You have only vague memories of the movie left, and nothing about the plot twists or the ending.
19:14 Miles dad points gun to the ground, puts it up only after Miles becomes invisible. It's great, because it shows what police should actually do, not showing them gun blazing.
Everything great about spiderman: into the spiderverse... Everything. The animation, the story, parallels, the jokes and connection sony made with real life spiderman and his merchandise, how miles falls and then rises again minutes later in the same areas, the places he fell and would fail were the same places he would succeed in. miles main theme (whats up danger) honestly goes so well with miles, his personality, the entire movie and the fact that again miles would succeed, this type song is often paired with the feeling that you or a character is going to bigger hieghts than ever before, and it's exactly what miles does! This movie has become one of my all time favorites and I could really just watch it over and over!
It’s super great when you remember that Miles is a hardcore spider man fan so he most likely knew or suspected that having a “backstory” meant something bad was going to happen and it could only get worse but still decided to try and continue down this path. Miles knew it was going to happen and still continued.
This is the moment that I got the most goosebumps while watching this moving- 11:25. Absolutely heart-wrenching, music that makes you get the chills, heart-racing, just everything is perfect about it and three years later still gets me every single time.
The whole soundtrack for this movie and the game is so good! It makes it more modern and you can relate to Miles a bit more- you have no time, you want to focus on what you love etc. I rate this movie and it's up there for one of the best movies I've seen
When miles gets spider-man costume from Stan Lee, he says it will fit eventually and when Miles came back to Aunt May, she says " They fit perfectly". That's just beautiful.
A cool detail I loved as an anime fan is that Peni's lips don't always match up with what she's saying. Just like how anime with English dubs never completely line up as well.
The fact that I watched this movie so many times in 1 year that I can’t even remember how I reacted when I first watched it, I also watched it so many times I already knew basically all the lyrics to sunflower without listening to the song or looking up the lyrics
Absolutely adore this movie on so many levels. Although I disagree with you on 1 teeny detail...o don't think Peter B is too lazy to ring the doorbell, I think he web shoots it he doesn't look imposing standing right on their doorstep. Later on when he goes to visit MJ he does the same thing and it's quite respectful how he's standing back to give her space, making the effort, but not imposing. I think it shows him as quite a sweet person ❤️
You mentioned Penni's anime expressions and movements, but did you notice her lips don't sinc with her dialog? So as an anime character, she's dubbed, not subbed.
Well, even in their original language, some anime doesn't sync the lips of the character to the dialog. Of course, more modern anime really are paying attention to this, but some old school don't sync "perfectly."
Ok, so, I am by no means an artsy person, but I immediately fell in love with this movie, I have nothing, absolutely nothing but words of praise for the movie itself and all the people who made it possible and all the hard work and LOVE they put in it! The art style is so fresh and unique while paying tribute to the comics, and the story is so so good that it's one of my favorite movies ever and I can't wait for a sequel, it lives in a very special place in my heart and I doubt it'll ever be replaced.
He talked about it a bit, but I don't think he talked enough about how amazing the prowler character is from his amazing character ark, his awesome suit, and even is theme music! He will always be one of my favorite spider man villains, better than anything the MCU could do.
You missed the EPIC WIN when Aunt May gives Miles the webshooters and says, "they fit perfectly" which is a direct callback to when Stan Lee says, "It always fits... eventually" when giving him the suit!
There's a cool little detail that I find really nice, and that's when Spider-Man first meets Miles, and that's the blue and red for Spider-Man whereas Miles' was purple and green before it turned to blue and red. Purple and green is a direct contrast and are colours represented with evil and corruption and Miles' uncle takes on a green and purple pallet for the most part. The change from purple and green to red and blue for Miles is a great way to portray the influence and also the path he will lead and how he uses his powers.
this has been my favourite movie since i was 9 when it came out! it was the only animated movie i had seen with such a good range of diversity and to me as a kid, it was thrilling. my favourite thing is miles having later reactions earlier on as he was new with his spider powers. it shows how much care was actually put into the movie. this is the best spiderman movie out of them all and i am prepared to fight anyone on it
What would've made this movie a bit more amazing is if they made the The Prowler's musical theme come up everytime Aaron was on screen, only making it muffled or very distant so it's kind of like a hint or clue.
This is my favorite spiderman movie ever made, ive seen it from start to finish atleast 50 times and not once have i ever noticed the spider camouflaging to blend into the different colors underneath him lol. That explains miles invisibility lol. Learn somethin new every day 😂
I know this is a video made two years ago, but something I thought was super cool, was when they were showing spider-sense you can faintly hear a whisper of “look out”. Love the attention to detail, like his subconscious was telling him to move.
An honourable mention I’d like to add: Spider-Man B goes the first half of the movie depressed enough that he’s willing to die numerous times, and it’s not until toward the end of the movie he starts thinking he’s not just expendable. This subtle nod to mental health and self worth was really a nice touch. Even a stone in a river can get worn down over time, but with fellow stones beside you, it’s not so bad :)
It's beautiful because after being Spider-Man for so long and losing everything that made him want to be Spider-Man, helping Miles along his journey helped him rekindle his love of being a super-hero again and helped him remind himself why he started in the first place.
I do also love the detail of Peter B. Parker saying he’ll put aside his personal biases and then the audience have their personal biases put aside by finding out doc Ock is actually a woman in Miles’ universe.
I can't believe the incredible, no, Amazing Spider-Man movies we've gotten over the past few years. Spiderverse was absolutely perfect, now No Way Home brought the magic back to live action Spider-Man. We are truly living in the golden age of Spider-Man movies.
I love that when peter is dying the eyes on his mask stop moving and stay still like an actual suit. its almost as if the animators are doing that to show us that the magic is over, that in this scene the comic style is inappropriate because it is such a dark moment.
Peter has plenty of advice to give Miles, mostly on relationships. I just want one scene where Peter tells miles not to get into relationships with morally ambiguous female criminals who are on the other side of the law AKA don't fall in love with Femme Fatale criminals. Relationships get complicated, superhero relationships even more so.
in my opinion, the funniest part about this movie was the first spider-man's christmas album. i think the names of the songs are hilarious "joy to the world (that i just saved)" "silent night (you're welcome)" "spidey, it's cold outside" "spidey the snowman" "swingin' around the christmas tree" and best of all "it's beginning to look a lot like a non-denominational holiday" i'm just saying they are hilarious and someone must have had a fun time making those
My favorite part is how both spidermen are stealing a computer that contains confidential information that can get the scientists all imprisoned, but the scientist in the cafeteria is worried that they stole a bagel.
I genuinely love Miles's father. I loved my dad so much the sun rose and sat with him. I genuinely wish bad for my father now it's like he never had a soul. Seeing a father try and fail so hard and to be broken by his failed efforts in being close to his son is so beautiful. Never take your kid's love for granted you are there entire world. Everyone else could die, bit if you were there to greet them in the morning it would make the end of the world bearable.
This movie should have won more Oscars then just one Preaty sure those dumb critics thinks cinemetography, screenplay, voice artist doesn't matter in animated movie Even freaking sound mixing and soundtrack was so good atleast deserves a nomination
When Peter Parker and Peter B Parker got their masks taken off, they both said “that’s a no no.” Proving how great this movie is with minor details. Edit: Thank you everyone for all the likes
Noticed how Miles say "I run faster than I swing" when he's just learning? Well, he actually does run quite a lot more than Peter's Spidey, he bounces on trucks, and walls when he can, and that's another small detail that's gold, at least for me
