Everything GREAT About Pokémon Detective Pikachu!

I love that this movie wasn't just pure nostalgia bait, like every pokemon was just from gen 1. It was truly a love letter to all pokemon fans, regardless of where you started at.

I think it would’ve been funny if “Who’s that Pokémon?” was a talk show.

Another win at 5:49: In the Gen VI games, Pokémon have a sweet spot where they like to be petted in Pokémon-Amie. Pikachu's sweet spot is the chin. Nice reference there.

No body talks about this and I feel like it's such a subtle nod to the games that could make everyone laugh. All over the movie you can see people wearing the same outfit, showing their profession. It such a nice nod to the games I don't know how people don't talk about it

The first best thing about Detective Pikachu is that Ryan Reynolds played Pikachu without cursing every five minutes

The Mr. Mime scene was one of the best scenes in all of movie history.

I still feel like the original artist doesn't get enough recognition. He started doing real life pokemon oh deviantart and then contacted by game freak and nintendo to do the lead design for the movie. Absolutely amazing!

This movie is one of the best when it comes to world building. I've heard the argument that this movie didn't do any world building because it was done in the games/anime but the world built in the movie feels uniquely its own. World building isn't just about telling us whats in this world, it's also about convincing us that the world is lived in and that there are stories going on outside of the main story.

I watched this in theaters with my best friend. I know of Pokémon, I could recognize a handful of them, but I'm not a die-hard fan. My friend however, has been obsessed with it since childhood. Watching this movie with her was a gift, because while I was impressed with how well they made the Pokémon look real, she was squealing softly next to me about her favorites being on the screen. The best part? I knew there would be a Flameon, her second favorite Pokémon, in one scene. She didn't. The suppressed squeal she gave made my fricking day ;7;

Oh my god... the R is a form of the Berserker Gene! Raises Attack but leaves a Pokemon confused, like they're rampaging. Damn, this movie nails it all!

8:27 Something I love about this screen is that Giratina (the banished one) is not present even though it is one of the box legendarys. This really shows that the makers of this movie actually really know about Pokémon lore.

Im used to crying at the end of a movie. This the first movie i ever cried at the start of. Seeing all the pokemon interacting with our world on a realistic level just like I'd always dreamed about brought me to tears.

Imagine if they make sequels around different characters dealing with a different legendary Pokemon problem each time.

I just realized that Pikachu and Charizard cowering in fear when that Gyarados evolved from Magikarp is indeed a reference to the intimidate ability.

The CGI in this movie is some of the best I have ever seen.

I loved this movie not only because of how faithful it is to the games but the acting, the tone, and the Pokémon designs are amazing and perfectly resemble the Pokémon in the game.

1:44 That's Ryoma Takeuchi, who plays Tim in the Japanese dub of the movie. He's also known for playing a superhero, Kamen Rider Drive- who also happens to be a police detective. One of the cases he solves is his father's murder case. Apparently, some people say that Dark-type (or Evil-type in Japan) being weak to Bug-type is partly because of Kamen Rider, as they are primarily bug-themed superheroes. As an additional side note, Lucy's Japanese VA is Marie Iitoyo, who also played a superhero- she was on Kamen Rider's sister show, Super Sentai, as Kyouryu Violet.

It took me like 3 hours watching this movie because I keep pausing it every time looking at the details and *MY GOD!!!* they did it, the level of fanservice form this movie is bloody high and I love it

So glad they have a whole scene around my favorite pokemon: Torterra. I'm happy.

Tbh we don’t need a Detective Pikachu 2, but we DO need another Pokémon movie.

They shouldn't do a direct sequel to Detective Pikachu. Instead, make a movie about the Mystery Dungeons series with Ryan Reynolds turning into a Pikachu again and HE freaks out about Pokemon talking. He tries to tell others that he was human before and was a famous actor but nobody believes him.

I'm just glad that the screenwriters made sure to work hard to get Mr Mime in it - TPC originally said no.

I really loved this movie so much and I had a huge nostalgia rush back to being a kid and playing Pokemon Blue. I think my only tiny little gripe is that at the end, Pikachu is completely in the background. I feel like we could have had a small scene where they both thank Pikachu for taking on his trainers... soul(?) for so long and letting him pilot his body despite the danger. Just a tiny gripe. That and let Bill Nighy play a good guy sometimes pls he seems v nice.

As a guy who grew up playing Pokémon since gen 1, this movie isn't perfect by any means but is such an awesome treat if you're a fan of the franchise. The pocket monsters in this are DROP. DEAD. GORGEOUS.

Let me bring attention to the fact they started with a shot of bird pokemon flying over the town- y'know, like how the games tend to start.

I pray that one day they do a sequel or another live action movie. I wanna see Hisui in this style.

a lot of the background effects and details of this movie impressed me when i watched it. and even more when i watched it the second time. but you really shone a light on just _how much_ of this movie is actually very impressive and i really appreciate that, thank you. i do love this movie, i think its fantastic personally. i feel like those little background details made with love and care are most of why i love. and i think the next time i watch it im going to appreciate it so much more because of you ^_^

Bolt was my favourite movie as a kid I would watch it over and over and over again and it is sad to see that almost everyone has forgotten it, I think a wins video would give it the recognition it deserves

A reference I really liked was when Pikachu mentioned all a Magikarp needs to evolve into a Gyarados is a little kick, which was a nice call back to the moment in the original season of the anime (from like around episode 20 of the Indigo League season) where James of Team Rocket kicks a Magikarp and it evolves.

My only complaint about this movie was that there was not nearly enough Eevee

The funniest thing to me watching this video for like the 5th time was that he pronounced Dialga as "Dialgo" and it was a really fun human mistake that totally didn't matter but made me laugh a bit. Thank you for that, Cinema Wins!

God, the sad thing for me is that I can't watch this movie without thinking of my first(and so far last if you catch my drift) girlfriend, this was the first movie we watched together that we both really really enjoyed and the character "Lucy" reminds me of her so so so freaking much, also the fact that they share the same name doesn't help and now every time I watch this movie I get sad. I got into Pokemon when Go came out and have been a huge fan of this movie when I first saw it in theaters. Amazing movie, made me giddy the entire time.

A neat little nostalgia trip is that Jigglypuff in the bar which is a reference to the reoccurring Jigglypuff in the classic pokemon anime which used a marker as a microphone and when it got mad that everyone fell asleep when it was singing It'd puff up and then proceed to draw on everyone's faces as revenge even in the movie the mic marker has the exact same green cap

I love the idea of human-Pokemon merging. There's a lot of implications that could be expanded upon. Like an evil team who uses this ability as easily as Mario in Odyssey. What about the stories in Canalave library that states humans and Pokemon were one in the same? Are the humans in the Pokémon world originally a piece of a Pokemon that got detached and by merging, they bring a Pokemon back to it's fullest potential? There's so many things we can go with this, and I have several ideas surrounding this phenomenon.

Seriously the level of fan service here is insane! The fact that they made a movie that actually BROKE the video game movie curse is just the cherry on top of the Pecha-Berry flavored sundae.

honestly i wasnt excited about the life action movie but i absolutely adore it and i wish they make more of them in the future because theyre just cute to watch i guess

I loved how you could just tell the directors and writers of the movie knew their audience.

My personal favorite thing about this movie is that it was able to tie in the main story with the reason why this isn’t a typical 8 gyms to elite 4 to champion story

I finally got to watch this movie on the night of the 1st of January, I was so happy and amazed throughout so here is some of my favourite tidbits I noticed lol I loved how they did the sounds for Mewtwo’s abilities. That kinda *“rourbreob”* sound was great, also how they made the Pokeball look and especially with the eyes of Pokemon such as Psyduck, in the anime and games, Psyduck has white eyes with only pupils and the way they made Psyduck amongst others have completely white, barely visible irises was a really cool take. All in all, a fantastic and creative way to capture what the world of Pokemon could look like irl Edit: One last thing i want to add lol, Ive always been really good at picking out what characters in movies, shows, games, books etc that seem to be good are actually bad, i have no idea how or why as im usually not good in figuring out people’s intentions, regardless, im always surprised when i manage to guess correctly (which, incredulously, seems to be practically 70 to 80 percent of the time) and when i saw the old guy after the Ditto-in-lady-form took Tim and Ryanchu to him i immediately callled it that he was the villain, really don’t know how im able to do this in movies.. Maybe it’s the way movies tend to set up scenes?? I mean, this “ability” or “skill” of sorts might be really common and i just haven’t encountered anyone else with it yet. But I cannot remember a time when ive correctly guessed a character to be a villain and the other people ive been watching the thing with have agreed. Sorry about making my comment even longer… i just wanted to voice my confusion at this skill i have that seems to only work with plot twist villians in movies etc lol

I actually want a movie of Tim actually becoming a Pokémon trainer and going off on a Journey with a Vulpix as his starter.

The movie is already 1 year old! I was so worried they were going to mess this up Pretty good but very short. Felt like a throwback to Pokémon: The First Movie. I wanted to see more battles. The climax is awesome. Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu is a great highlight.

In the movie theater I honestly wanted to start singing the theme song with Pikachu, even if it was a sad version, it's still an iconic song from my childhood.

Now I want a mystery dungeon film, with Kamex doing remixes of classic themes. Also, Chime pulling off an EPIC primal dialga battle remix. Same character design philosophy for the mons, but go all out. And tell somewhat of an original story, but also fuse in some elements from each game.

I remember always wanting to see pokemon in real life since I was a kid, and detective pikachu made that happen.

Fun fact:Mewtwo doesn’t move their mouth when they talk, but when Howard was controlling Mewtwo’s body, they do move their mouth like a human.

I saw this in the theatre with my mum, who knew nothing about Pokemon prior. We both loved it!

I remembering seeing this with my little sister and brother. She was like oh look pikachu and normal movie reactions. Me and my brother were geeking out naming every reference that flew over her head.

I remember hearing about this movie and thinking it's animated (like the Pokemon Anime, not a disney movie) and then being surprised by how realistic everything looked.

I love that he recognized all of the even obscure pokemon

God I love this movie. It is hilarious and ridiculous but the animation and score were fantastic. Just the amount of detail is wonderful. Plus the actors were all amazing in their roles. It's perfect and I would love to see another one in the future. Not a sequel but another one in this universe. Plus Ryan Reynolds is always a win.

I also appreciated how they still used Jigglypuff's original song

The biggest win is that as of late, videogame movies have actually been good. This and Sonic the Hedgehog are prime examples. I hope to see more

So i love the character of Lucy because she feels as if she's been pulled out of a pokemon game or episode. Nice counterpart to Tim's more grounded character.

Ya know when the detective pikachu game first came out, i had jokingly said to myself after finishing it "what if pikachu was tim's father?" And i got so excited in the theatre when it was revealed that was the case in the movie, over all i really loved this movie and enjoyed watching it 10/10 would watch it again:) great video aswell mate

Oh, I loved this movie. It was so REAL. Movie makers think it's about the CGI but it's not, it's about the INTERACTION. Also, Gyrados doesn't exactly need to use Intimidate to intimidate. Charizard looked like he was about to soil himself in that scene.

I liked the movie, but I don't want a Detective Pikachu 2. What I want is another Pokemon movie with this tech.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu was a really good live action Pokemon movie i loved it!

I will always hold this movie close because, back when it was still in the final developments, the crew (well, minus Ryan Reynolds, so just Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton) went to the Pokemon World Championships in 2018 and recorded the crowd there chanting "PIKACHU! PIKACHU!" "CHARIZARD! CHARIZARD!" and "IT'S A CRITICAL HIT" to use IN THE MOVIE! ...and I was THERE! I was apart of the crowd chanting! It was amazing, and one of the BEST moments in my life.

Is no one going to talk about the ending credits sequence? I find it very amazing and creative!

Pokemon is one of my most beloved franchises and despite the tiny little flaws in the movie im still very happy about the live action movie type and I definitely want more

Maybe it's just me, but I like to think about the random people who where put into there pokemons bodies. The trainer of the gengar must have gotten quite the surprise, or someone who trains a gardevoir (or any psychic type, I use gardevoir a an example because it doesn't feel the pull of gravity and supports itself with its psychic power).

My only regret that came with watching this movie is that I watched it in a SUPER loud theatre while also having sensory issues, so I couldn’t pay attention with all the anxiety I experienced. DEFINITELY planing on rewatching it soon!

Hope this gets a sequel. Loved the chemistry between our two main protagonists!

Just hearing you talk about the fandom like that made me start tearing up, thank you. Also side note when snubble came on screen I started sobbing because he has the same face as my boxer and just cried through the whole movie because they all looked so good and so cute. It was all those feelings from the shows, games, movies and card games just all rushed back and you could tell this was made BY fans and someone who knew how to tug at our hearts.

I'm pretty sure someone has already mentioned it but the part where Tim and pikachu jumped off and landed on a ledge of a cliff kinda reminds me of when in the games you'd jump of a ledge as a shortcut.

I really enjoyed this movie and would be on for another movie in this universe, even if not a sequel.

Honestly my favourite part of the movie was how the Magikarp evolved after being kicked, which was a reference to the first season of the anime in which Team Rocket James did the same thing with his Magikarp.

Bulbasaurs were always my favorite pokemon, and to see them irl. That gave me the happy joy feeling, because irl bulbasaur is what I saw when I was picking my starter in pokemon blue.

I love this wins episode 💖 I would love Pokemon movies to turn into their own expanded universe. Just start with individual movies like this, then maybe someday they can guest in each other's stuff. But I really root for the independent Pokemon films before another detective Pikachu one.

I love this movie so much. If I could leave this reality behind and live in a movie world it would be this one cuz talk about a childhood dream come true lol. You wouldn't think a live action pokemon movie would work so well but you can see all the love that went into bringing the world alive.
