My ONLY complaint with the 'I've come to Bargain" Scene, is that they didn't show any loops of Strange just being insufferably chummy with Dormammu. "Hey Dormy!" "How's it going, Dorm-meister!" "So about that bargain?" Strange has this unfathomably powerful eldritch abomination exactly where he wants him, and has been through thousands, if not millions of loops. At some point he'd probably be desensitized to the deaths, and act all casual with Dormammu repeatedly killing him, just to further annoy him into giving up.

When Strange said that he could keep losing, it reminded me of how Cap always said he could do (whatever) all day

win: the foreshadowing!! i love how you can barely hear kaecilius say "hypocrite" during the first fight with the ancient one. i love how the cape sways as doctor strange walks by it. i love that in the beginning of the movie, the camera focuses on stephen's hands a lot, showing how truely hopeless he feels when they're no longer as functional.

How about a win for the most unique way to defeat a villian ever?

Benedict is really good with acting and doing his actions as a voice actor. I remember watching a video about how Benedict was the VA for Smaug. He would move around ACTUALLY act out his actions as a dragon during his recording. It was amazing. They even based Smaug's actions and movements after Benedict. Recorded him and used his movements for Smaug.

I love how whenever Mads Mikkelsen is in a movie CinemaWins always finds a way to put in a cannibal and/or Hannibal reference.

Strange forgot that the oath of "First, do no harm" wasn't referring to people in general. It refers to the patient, those who are ill and need treatment. Do no harm to the patient(s). A Doctor is therefore fully able to kick someone's ass to the best of their ability without violating that oath.

When I saw this with my dad, he paused the movie at the ER scene, and said, and I quote, “And this, kids, is why you don’t ego and drive.”

I love the trope dodge of when Strange asked about Kaecilius. In most stories, the wizards would try to hide their dark mistakes, but it makes way more sense for them to use him as a cautionary tale of what can consume you if you aren't careful.

This movie was by far my favorite MCU movie (before Infinity War came out). This movie showed me that even when losing something you can still learn to become the best. Even when you have to give up the best life you had and the only life you knew.

This movie is honestly in my top 5 mcu movies ever alongside Thor:Ragnarok.

This is literally the only movie in the MCU to date that I purposely saw in 3D just because I knew some of the scenes were going to be like taking an acid trip. It did not disappoint.

Just rewatched this movie after Wandavision and I actually got that Kaecilius was a bit of a dark reflection of Strange. When he first meets The Ancient One, Strange explains his nihilistic worldview, saying that we're all just insignificant specks in the universe. Kaecilius says the same thing to Strange while he's in the bondage relic, but they come to different conclusions regarding this idea. Kaecilius decides that the right answer is to prolong the lives of those on Earth indefinitely in the Dark dimension, willingly killing those who get in his way. Strange instead finds these insignificant people to be important enough to suffer death upon death for a thousand years rather than allow them to come to harm. There's more to this movie than I thought when I first watched it for sure.

I like the jokes as part of the movie. Not because they're super-funny, but because they illustrate Strange's character at that moment. In the beginning of the movie he's unable to have a conversation that doesn't revolve around his career (or musical trivia--which is still just him showing off). After the accident, he can't find joy or amusement in anything. At the end of the movie, he's more settled but also more serious. During that set of scenes, however, he's falling into the student role. He's no longer obsessing over his career or his injury, but he doesn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders yet. He's playful and relaxed and even kind of dorky--it also gives you some insight into how he probably was as a younger man when he first started studying medicine. It also doesn't bother me that they aren't better for more than a slight chuckle because that's one thing that separates him from Tony Stark, who is constantly quipping--particularly since the two characters bear a striking resemblance to begin with. In fact, I find the jokes kind of humanizing. He only occasionally gets a really funny zinger, and that somewhat breaks the cliche that really smart people are also really witty.

Doctor meets Doctor: [holds out hand] "Strange." [shakes it] "Charmed." "Doctor Charmed?" "No, just Doctor." "Heh, sorry I get this shtick all the time too. What is you actual name?" "Doctor." "What?" "No, you're supposed to say 'who'." "What?" "Never mind."

What about when Strange is about to return the Time Stone but hesitates and looks at his hands as if contemplating whether to go back to undo the injury but then is pushed by the cloak to snap him out of it. Or how about the fact that Dr Strange literally defeated a villain by making him rage quit.

One point I really loved, and I wished you'd included a bit more of it, was in the beginning when Kaecilius called The Ancient One "Hypocrite!" right when she demonstrates her power in the Mirror Dimension. For me, it was a "What? How?" moment. You noted how we understand later that her power comes from her drawing from the Dark Dimension, and you also noted that she's a morally ambiguous character, but that moment when he shouts "Hypocrite!" really ties those together clearly once we understand it and was a great way to tell the audience "There's a complexity here that you can't see yet."

Late to the show. But I definitely wanted to point out how insane Ben's acting is with the recovery of his accident. I was paralyzed on my left side exclusively, years ago and had to go through PT like shown. He portrays the struggle and all if it uncomfortably well. Literally gave me anxiety while watching it. I give that a solid 10 alone.

Thor's alcoholic drink that keeps refilling is a reference to the Nordic heaven, Valhalla. In Valhalla drinks magically replenish themselves. I loved that they put that in as a subtle nod to Thor being of Nordic origins.

“I shall now lead another gifted student to power only to lose him to the darkness” No one has pointed out this is exactly what Mordo did.

I also like how his super power is actually just high intelligence and good memory, but other than that he’s a normal person.

Dr. Strange is my favorite MCU character of all time (except possibly Loki) and Benedict Cumberbatch was PERFECT and I mean PERFECT for the role.

I wonder if Strange’s choice of special weapon was those finger ropes because of his constant yearn to use his hands? Like, in the heat of the moment, where he hardly had time to think, his innate desire focusing on his hands came out and that was the reason , so that he could persuade himself that they still work as intricately as before. If so, that’s an amazing portrayal.

In my opinion, this and Ant Man are two of the most underrated movies in the MCU. They (in my opinion) are brilliant, well directed, well casted, funny films with brilliant CGI and compelling plots messing with time and space in unexpected ways. Also, Benedict Cumberbatch has got to be one of the greatest actors of all time, having seen him in this, Sherlock and the Imitation Game.

I'm still waiting on a CinemaSins / Wins crossover where the counter goes up and down like crazy! I'm sure it'll be epic. Make it so.

I remember seeing it through cinema and I was amazed how visually appealing and intelligent this movie was. He's my favorite character.

My favorite part of this movie is the fact that they didnt give him a montage of perfecting everything......they leave him as a noob and he doesn't magically defeat his opponent so much as outsmart them. He uses the portal doors to take the henchman out of the fight. The cloak saves him. And he beats dormamu with a time loop. Let's be real..... beating dormamu....the transdimensional entity of pure evil.....with magic and skill would be farfetched for him being a noob. Then he keeps training and by infinity war he is a full on badass sorcerer supreme

It's pretty cool that horror directors always make seriously great superhero films! (Scott Derrickson, Sam Raimi, etc.)

Props for recognising Scott Adkins' skill. He may not be the world's best actor, but he's still one of the best on-screen martial artists I've ever seen.

I didn't expect much more than just another decent Marvel film, yet Doctor Strange turned out to be one of my favorite films of all time.

I loved the Cloak of Levitation being made into a sidekick for Dr. Strange. Just the few things it did on it's own showed a lot of personality. And I would love it if in the next Dr. Strange movie at some point he calls it the "Blanket of Death" like an affectionate nickname.

One thing I think you might have missed is that the ending of this movie sets Strange up to be the single most experienced combat sorcerer in existence. Depending on how many times he died he would have had thousands, possibly even millions of life or death sparring sessions with Dormammu. That kind of intense practise and motivation is going make someone real good real fast.

I love the clear distinction between Strange’s magic verse magic used by Wanda and Agatha. The mystic arts are structured, stylized and kind of “modern” in the way they practice. Wanda’s magic is old, untamed, erratic, and looks like what most people would perceive as stereotypical “magic” in a fantasy world. I am so ready for Doctor Strange two and the utter madness that will come from having all magic-wielding characters.

The timeline does line up tho. Endgame confirms that at least the "Doctor Strange proper" portion of this movie takes place in 2017, "you're about 5 years too early". And I don't think substantially more than a year passes from start to end in this film, right? So, it totally could've started around the same time as the airport fight.

"Don't mess up Planet Hulk. We believe in you Marvel." And then it went on to be one of the best MCU films ever

To be honest, the scene from this movie that really grabbed me was build up to the car crash. Every scene while he was preparing for his trip and *making* his trip had some sort of direct focus on his hands. The amount of focus was so heavy, I immediately knew what was going to happen when he was in the car. And the extent of my knowledge of the movie was "Dr Strange uses time magic". It was a really well constructed scene with some really good foreshadowing.

I think with the pop culture jokes it was more to ground the audience than to provide comic relief. With all the magic mystical stuff going on around them, it was refreshing for me and i know some of my friends who were watching with me, to have a small anchor to remind us that we were in this world, not in some alternate dimension where all this is possible

Cinema sins and cinema wins should make a collab video where they argue between the points.

Fun Fact: The first time me and my family watched this movie, I called the medallion as the Time Stone instantly, and they didn't believe me. You can only imagine their reactions later when its revealed...

The fact that this movie introduced me to a Marvel comics character I've come to adore, seriously the first words out of my mouth when this ended were, "where has he BEEN all my life!?" this is a special movie for me for kind of a weird reason. The moment when I was watching this movie, and Strange is screaming his lungs out on that LSD trip the ancient one sends him on, was the moment I first really felt my son moving around in my stomach. It was the first movie I saw in theaters while pregnant and the little guy was just losing it, like genuinely felt like somersaults in there(no matter how impossible that is). So love for the character I developed aside, that's what draws my heartstrings to this every time I watch it.

I am looking forward to Doctor Strange 2. I expect to see the story arc and skills of Doctor Strange to develop a lot.

Best way to rewind one of the best MCU movies. Great job, mate.

The movie turned out to be better than I expected and is now one of my favorite Marvel movies.

The Magicians is excellent, one of the best implementations of Magic in any show I've seen so far. I love that the execution here is somewhat similar.

I know I'm probably late but the timeline for Rhodes breaking his lower spin and Doctor strange still being a doctor lines up. It's a very small little detail that I think goes under most people's radar which is fantastic in my opinion

I love doctor strange. And I especially love how these movies are made for 3D viewing. And I am so sad I missed the multiverse of madness in theatres cause I so badly wanted to see it in 3D and they don't make 3D Blurays anymore😭

He's a doctor, and the one thing besides a stethoscope that we all recognize as doctor apparel is a lab coat. That magic cloak is now his lab coat. It let's Strange feel like he has the uniform that displays his mastery of a craft, while also being a practical piece of equipment. And that's beautiful to me

I actually don't think it matters how long Strange was trained, because he never becomes a Master Sorcerer. Yes, the Ancient One calls him Master Strange, but that's only because he defended the Sanctum Sanctorum. In all of his fights, he gets his ass handed to him in magic, and the Time Manipulation was really just the Eye of Agammotto (Not sure if I'm spelling that right). Plus, even in their first meeting, the Ancient One says he's gifted.

They did a great job with Kaecilius' characterization to the point where I almost sided with him instead of the Ancient One after it's revealed she was drawing power from the dark dimension

Doctor Strange is hands down my favourite mcu movie after Guardians of the galaxy; the effects, the cast, the story everything is so tied together and amazing, Strange's character is little hard to love for me but it's played by Benedict Cumberbatch so.. still it is an astonishing movie.

I'm happy he mentioned the magicians. Absolutely love that show.

Is no one else gonna acknowledge the fact that Doctor Strange defeated Dormammu not because he was stronger, but because he endured him to the point where it annoyed Dormammu?

I've commented on your video previously and said how much I enjoy it. What I didn't mention is why I love the Doctor Strange movie. The loss of his hands and by extension his entire world that he spends everything he has in attempts to get it back hit very close to home for me. The anger and frustration, just the rage that targets everyone around him are very close to what I went through losing the use of my legs. You make peace with it or you don't, either way, it IS your new reality and you must learn to work within the confines of the new reality. Some minutes, hours, days, or weeks are harder than others with reminders all around you of what you can no longer do. Doctor Strange shows this as well as it can in the time allotted. The "magic" I learned is very simple, helping people who ended up in my situation. To me, the movie is basically a mystical form of doing the same. Your Wins doesn't cover this as you have no reason to, but to me adding my experiences to the story, there are SO many Wins to add to your counter. Thank you again for your channel! No matter what more happens in the MCU, Doctor Strange is the most selfless character. From his and Dormamu’s perspective this was ONE THOUSAND YEARS of Dormamu killing Strange again and again and again, which is why he seems so good at the end and is able to survive way longer. He had 1000 years to practice his magic as he died

Also... I've truly appreciated the care, attention to detail, & yes, the love that Marvel has put into these characters. No, they haven't always knocked it out the park. But they have tried - and they've taken some chances - especially with character arcs. In the villain department, they've certainly killed off a lot of them, but they've also dropped hints of many more to come: Zemo's not dead, nor are Mordo, The Leader, & many others - including 2012 Loki. We've even seen Galactus (in an exposition cameo), & been introduced to Dormammu. Now, with Endgame under our belts, all hell might just be set to break loose across the multiverse. I'm still unclear on how 616 will keep going, since the Time Stone's have (shall we say) an uncertain future in this timeline, & as The Ancient One pointed out, they're only responsible for, like, reality & all. So it'll be interesting to see if they address that before tearing into their next adventure(s). One way or another, I'm betting it'll be worth watching. Now if only the DCEU could right their own ship & put Batman v Superman & The Justice League firmly behind them! Rikki Tikki.

One of the few movies that has it all, love it. Its so hard to make magic based movie and so easy to make it a laser shooting fest.

I always thought Wong laughed at the 'the warnings come after the spells' thing because the book was written right to left and Strange read it the wrong way. =P

As a Dr Strange enthusiast and a big fan of Marvel comics magic in general, I personally really enjoyed this movie and my regret is that I never got to see it in IMAX. I like that the magic felt more real because it made it more believable to the audience. This is probably still the best standalone marvel movie in my book. I know a lot of people say that “It’s just Iron Man but with magic” but that’s totally not true. There were a lot of differences between these two movies and I’ll pick watching Dr Strange over watching any of the Iron Man movies any day of the week. Solid 10/10. Not the Dr Strange we deserved, but the one that we needed.

The entire scene that takes place *DURING* the flash of a lightning bolt needs extra wins, just for using that to indicate how much TAO was slowing time down. Great show-don't-tell brilliance.

This movie kinda gave me a heart (too much camera spinning, upside down scenes, details that I wanted to pay attention to, etc) but it's one of my favorite superhero films, it's just so well done

6:10 I love this type of shot; it is done best in "The Elephant Man". When Anthony Hopkins's Dr. Treaves first sees John Merrick, John hurt is not on the set with him, it is just a long stare. Hopkins had not yet seen the Merrick makeup, but had read all the associated literature seen the real photos. In his head he was repeating a snippet of the Lord's Prayer "I will hold true in Heaven as is held true on Earth". Amazingly, he did not know that the camera was zooming in--he was just looking at the backstage repeating this in his head, wondering what agony such an afterlife must be if all your life was Hell--and right at the apex of the zoom, perfectly, his tear breaks and rolls down his cheek, and that was real, his real life encounter with his imagined idea of truly meeting the real Joseph "John" Merrick, and is shot, lit, and framed so perfectly.

I personally prefer that the city moving scene doesn't have the music from the trailer. Having that kind of music in the trailer is fine, and it helps to sell what we're seeing. But, once we're in the movie theatre, I'd rather just let the visuals speak for themselves rather than having blaring music reiterate what I already know: that the visuals kick ass.

Tilda Swinton is brilliant in the role and I have no problem with her playing the Ancient One and I've been reading Dr.Strange since he first appeared in comics

My theory about the astral plane or whatever is that it's basically like Ghost Dad. They have to focus to interact with the real world, and if they're focusing too much (like Doctor Strange who really needs to stay in that room) then they'll interact with everything, which is why they only sometimes hit things they didn't mean to.

This movie is so underrated and also that "fight" scene with Dormammau was Dr. Strange training for Thanos. With each loop Dr.Strange was strengthening his abilities. In the comics, it was a centuries long battle. Making Dr. Strange the most powerful superhero ever! 😨I loved him as a character who developed into a better human being, but after the MCU films he has become my top three favorite comic book hero from Marvel, right up there with Venom and Phoenix. 😎

What I love about this movie is Strange's character development. A lot of it was addressed in this video but I wanted to point out one more thing: in the beginning, even though Strange is the best of the best in his field, he's terrified of failure. He refuses to even try with patients he deems impossible to "fix". He won't even see them. And in the end the way he beats the Big Bad is by losing/failing over and over again. In a way he's sacrificing himself in more ways than one. He's not just prepared to die in pain over and over, he's prepared to lose over and over.

Wong started laughing at Strange's jokes when he realised Strange will be the new Sorcerer Supreme, therefore his boss.

I remember first watching this and believing there was no way after the first 15 minutes that this would become a superhero magic movie
