Deadpool 2! The sequel to the movie in the video that launched a 1000 me's… I like this movie. I did predict there would be critics saying "not as good as the first" but I never checked. Let's assume I was right. Here's everything right with Deadpool 2!

Also, yes, this video is a continuum of my sickness getting worse and my voice getting raspier as recording went on. You're not crazy.

Seeing lots of comments correcting me about NTW being in the first movie. I worded that weird. I meant that she wasn't a [main character] in the first one. I was referring to my line before. It was a response to one review I read about NTW and Yukio not being important to the plot. NTW wasn't very important to the plot in the first one. Apologies!

Fun fact: Deadpool's altruism towards the kid is totally in character. He's always had a soft spot for kids. Killing, traumatizing, or otherwise harming children has always been the one line Deadpool refuses to cross. Once he even delayed an assassination contract for a mall Santa because there were too many kids around, and they'd be traumatized by the kill. When Bullseye sniped the Santa, Deadpool immediately ushered the kids out and tried to keep them from finding out "Santa" was dead.

When I first saw this, I was so convinced it was going to end with the gunshot to the chest being just a flesh wound because he regenerated his heart in the wrong part of his chest cavity and Vanessa's repeated "Your heart's not in the right place" warning was just completely literal.

Honestly I think that having a minor character who is gay is the bare minimum of representation. In no way would I call it "the best representation". Still it's nice to see a casual same sex couple in a big movie like this, even if they only had a few minutes of screen time.

His relationship with Vanessa in this film was earned in the first film. When she dies, it hurts. Their love is goofy and ridiculous and weird and kinky and pure and we all wish we had that. So the moment at the end is just full of every emotion. I was definitely not expecting that from the 1st film, and REALLY not from the 2nd. I was happy they did it. Such good, not lazy, writing. Also, Ryan Reynolds is to Wade as Robert Downey Jr is to Stark. They literally ARE their characters.

My thought on Deadpool's altruism in this film, coming form all I've seen from Deadpool, he's actually pretty true in the movies to Deadpool's sense of morality in other media. He's always (at least as far as I've seen) had a soft spot for kids and he spends a good chunk of his own stories 'trying' to be a good guy. He doesn't ever make it, but it's usually due to things like what they showcase in the first movie and the fact that he is selfish in most of his motivations. He has a daughter in the comics and is only ever shown as a loving father, so I think his protection of Flame Fist is pretty on point for his character. There are a lot of small moments across his media too that show him to actually be pretty considerate to others even though he's still NOT a 'Hero'. Things like lifting his mask whenever he's around Hawkeye so that Clint can read his lips, even though Wade HATES showing his face. The time he helped Spidey get rid of a villain while dressed as Spidey, but made sure to tell Peter he'd take off the mask first so that everyone would know it wasn't Spiderman that did the deed. Refusing to look at Spidey's face when he's out cold because he knows Spiderman is protective of his identity and that it would be a line crossed. Just small things. Deadpool does plenty of awful stuff, something he's very aware of, but he still has his own sense of morality and it often involves taking the bad image or 'evil deeds' onto himself so that others don't have to. It's one of the reasons I love him as a character, because he's not one-note like some people think, and he's actually a complex character when you take a look at him. That's why I think these movies work so well. anyway, I love your videos!

As a lesbian myself, I actually squealed when I saw NTW and Yukio being a couple. They represented it just perfectly, nit forced, but also not hidden. They are just a typical teenage couple: always together, supporting each other... I have never been mor proud to see a LGBTQ+ representation

I do agree in thinking that the best way to represent is to make it just normal, like it is in the real world, as opposed to adding an LGBT+ side character to your story and forcing it down people's throats that your film is blessed because it contains the "first LGBT+ character in " just for that character to be completely inconsequential to the story. Also, a character is not just gonna rock up in a Superhero film and go "Yeah, I'm gay" and have that be their entire character, they might talk about their partner, correct someone on their identity or their partner might be in the story but they still should be their own character and story. When a character is straight or cis-gender that's not all their character is, so why should it be any different when a character is LGBT+?

I gotta say I fully agree with your feelings on the “afterlife” scene. And it hit me even harder the first time because after that one trailer where Wade and Weasel were talking about the movie and they said something about there not being a third movie. So when he said “I’m dying in this one,” I was concerned it was actually a possibility. So, seeing Vanessa pull Deadpool through the wall and turn back into healthy Wade, I thought it was really the end and I was really watching a character I loved pass into the afterlife to be with the woman he loved. The humor and lack of a 4th wall for the movie spends hours disarming us, and then it hits us with a sharpened cream cheese spreader to the guts. In your RoS video you talk about why you make your videos: every movie is someone’s favorite. This really really might be mine.
Grayson Rogers-Barnes
Deadpool 2's emotional scenes actually hit really hard. I remember being emotional about his "dying" thing but then he kept talking, and I was internally like "Wade please stop joking, you're literally dying and you're still so lovable and annoying-"

I genuinely love Yukio and NTW's relationship. It wasn't all of a sudden tragic, there wasn't an unnecessary spotlight onto it. They just showed it as it was, a relationship. They didn't need nor didn't have to put a spotlight onto it, and they knew that because as much as we love representation, we also hate it when it looks like some kind of circus show. They're a couple, nice (it did make me very happy though). No need to point it out with neon signs saying "gay couple right here" because that's.... no, just no. It makes it feel like the fact that they're a couple is unnatural instead because of how it's pointed out so obnoxiously. We want to be accepted not be turned into an exhibit at a zoo, we're normal people with normal relationships. And that? The way this movie represented it? I adored it so much. It wasn't in shoved in your face going all "OH MY GOD LOOK LGTBQ+ WE'RE SO DIVERSE AND ACCEPTING HURR HURR" which would be incredibly annoying, god fucking help me. They showed Yukio and NTW, obviously being in a relationship and that's it, no big deal, they love each other no need to act like we need to put a spotlight on them. And that's just what I genuinely want, show that we exist and we're normal and no one should make a big deal out of it. We're not affecting any aspect of your life by being who we are. That said, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate other ways of representation, it still makes me feel warm that we're finally being acknowledged (even if the obnoxious ways of showing it can be quite irritating). This is just one of my favorites. tl;dr I love how the relationship between Yukio and NTW is shown here because they treat it as you should, like it's normal and not a big deal. Also they're a genuinely cute couple, I love their dynamic.
Todorokis_trauma_kettle
You’re right, NTW and Yukios relationship was absolutely done perfectly. The fact that they’re as normalized as a straight couple would be and it’s not a “HEY WE ADDED GAY PEOPLE ARENT WE COOL?!?” thing is amazing. After I watched both the Deadpool movies (which my dad and I watched in one night since my mom wouldn’t let me see it in theaters) I spent a good 5 minutes laying in my bed giggling like a schoolgirl and crying happy tears because this was the first step towards normalization and it was done so well.
Grayson Rogers-Barnes
I've seen some people say that Cable was a little *too* serious compared to the comics, but it felt nice to have him as a serious dude in the movie. But also, as a big fan of Deadpool, I think his helping is pretty in character. One thing he's always cared about is kids.

That song is one of the best parts of this movie, especially since it doesn't seem like it's saying what it is. AND the X-Men franchise (especially) has a tendency to use some choir/operatic music to underscore certain moments. You've got the Dies Irae Requiem in X2 (during Nightcrawler's attack on the president - it's not on the official soundtrack for some reason) and X3 ("Dark Phoenix's Tragedy" - at the house - and "Phoenix Rises" - last part of the Alcatraz battle) and "Beethoven Havok" (the actual name of the song) in Apocalypse, just off the top of my head. "You Can't Stop This Motherf*" just *fits* in the universe.

Old video, but Deadpool has always had a weird but lovable moral compass like this one. He literally slaughters entire buildings of people, just to save one person. Granted, most of the time those people are pedophiles or something, but he does bad things to save good people. That's why I love him. He's literally what most people would be if they had DP powers.

Something I loved is that they managed to write in Deadpool's comic infatuation with literal Death, which is sometimes metaphorical and sometimes literal, in a way that smoothly blends both aspects and makes sense to both the plot and remaining character. EDIT: They probably will reveal her as Death in DP3. But I don't think they will take her away from being her for real. She will be both, I'm assuming. Deadpool's metaphysical representation of how Death appears to him, and also her literally.

The scene with Vanessa just destroys me. I was openly sobbing in the theater for it. They wrote a killer fun fucked up love story and... she's dead, and Wade has to live without her. And then there's the closure, and it's ripped away from him. What a GREAT scene.

I’m just now realizing the differing parallel. In Deadpool’s debut issue, he travelled back in time to kill Cable. In Cable’s debut movie, he travels back in time to kill Russell but eventually tries to kill Deadpool as well. Not an exact replication but I’m just now seeing that. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional though and I might just be adding more to it but noticing it is interesting.

For some odd reason, in the midst of all the horrible things going on, Deadpool(in the comics) found someone every once in awhile that he wanted to help and protect. In old man Logan there was the one kid who could teleport things and the feds were after her so, Deadpool and Wolverine tried to step in and help. Other times it has been his own daughter, and of course, Kid Apocalypse.

You gotta love how Deadpool’s/Reynolds’s voice is noticeably higher in editing/sound I guess so it’s almost like he literally breaks the boundary of the film with his voice kind of like the comics when he breaks the 4th wall.
Alexander Hlavenka
rewatching this video again and your closing statement, there are quite a few times where Deadpool goes out of his way to help people who are either going through tough times or are victims. specifically helping Kid Apocalypse, saving Spider-man from killing, talking someone down from a ledge (litterally) as well as helping them check themself in to get proper help. He has a few more things that might make a top 10 list but those are the main selfless moments.

15:52 "I really have no explanation for how this gets me so bad..." I do. The moment doesn't only have an exceptional unplugged version of Take On Me, but it mirrors the video for Take On Me. The first few times Deadpool made it to this afterlife room, there was that invisible wall separating him from Vanessa, and it never even occurred to me what they were doing. But then they started the song and it all clicked. Take On Me video: trvid.com/video/video-djV11Xbc914.html Go to about 1:26 in the video and you can see an invisible wall of separation between the two people. They're in the same room, but there's a division. Even when they're in the same place, they're not. There's an unspoken distance between the singer in the comic book world and the girl from the real world. This theme carries throughout the video. Also notice the singer in the video changes visibly when he steps behind that window thing, much like Deadpool changing back into Ryan Reynolds. Mind you, this is a really good video today, but it was absolutely mind-blowing in 1985. This video is so good, there are several reaction videos out there of people watching for the first time. Yeah, it's that epic. If you've never seen the video before, watch it NOW! You won't regret it. One of the best music videos ever. The Deadpool 2 movie took all the impact of seeing that video for the first time, put bigger emotional stakes in place, and brought it all forward for this generation. This is why. Maximum emotional impact achieved. ... ... (more for true movie nerds only) At around 3:22 in the A-ha video, you can see the singer trying to break out of the comic book. He was literally breaking the 4th wall. This translates to him in the hallway fighting to become "real". The hallway scene was yet another callback to a movie called Altered States where the scientist guy had to fight in a similar fashion to become real. www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0 I don't know how well Altered States holds up today, because I haven't seen it in about 40 years. But that part of this movie was absolutely the inspiration for the end of the Take On Me video. Roughly 512 walls broken there.

I feel like all the characters from Deadpool 2 would make for fantastic inspiration for D&D characters. Just imagine playing a gigantic goodie two shoes paladin that never stops referencing passages from his bible kina like colossus. Or a happy go lucky chaotic nutcase like Deadpool as a rogue. they just have such well defined and interesting personalities that would translate so well into a D&D style character. Especially since there is enough material there that you could keep the jokes and bits fresh.

Honestly I like how Deadpools pansexuality isn't ever explicitly said or in your face 4 the movie, it feels more natural! He loves his girlfriend, and also of course that scene w/ him and Colossus and the one off joke. It just kinda mentions it like you would w/ any other straight character

When "Take On Me" plays after Wade dies, I. . .damn. Thinking about it hits me. My life has been loveless, painful, and disappointing, so seeing Deadpool die and get to be with the woman he loves forever is my "I wish I had that" cliche. Not so much the dead part. . .not all the time. . .but the part where I have a love like that. I feel that song and that moment together and it hurts, but I know if I ever find that person, that moment will make me smile.

15:52 the emotions I felt. The song, the parallel to what I want Heaven to be except with someone else, and the hope that my scars will disappear too when I get there. Then he's brought back with what I have always believed is the reason I've survived everything I have. I have more to do, more people to help, and it's not my time. Just hits home every single time.

Another couple of wins to note would be the two Goonies references, which Josh Brolin also played a major role in. Calling Cable "One-Eyed Willie", and the floral shirt that baby-legs Wade was wearing was almost identical to the one Chunk wore throughout the movie.

Fun fact, the comment Deadpool made about wine and gluten is sometimes accurate! Wineries will sometimes add yeast to wine to draw in corks or have their wine aged in bourbon barrels which are lined with yeast! I have a friend with Celiac who is incredibly sensitive to any wine whose bottle had a cork in it!
