There’s a lot of jokes that Scott writes that , just full honesty; I really don’t understand or find funny. Don’t get me wrong 90% of it? I think is/are hilarious ! and also, he says some thing in his “borderline forever” video about writing jokes that “aren’t funny” or something to that effect . Either way, like.. that is kind of a one of those situations for me. But fair game to ya, the more I think about it the more I start to chuckle just out of sheer confusion 😋

Small error: Yo-Kai Watch 3 in North America and Europe is not actually a localization of Tsukiyaki (the third version from Japan) but instead a unique all in one edition featuring content from all three versions made specifically for NA and EU, making it the definitive edition of the game, and ironically not playable in Japanese at all

One important fact you didn't mention about the 2 Zelda Oracle games is that they were originally meant to be a TRIO. Capcom was commissioned to do 3 games, but bridging a story across 3 games that could be completed in any order proved to be way to complicated. So they cut it down to 2, and the 3rd game Capcom was contracted to still make for Ninty resulted in Minish Cap.

I have been telling people that Pokemon isn't gonna drop the Dual Releases. But what it can do is do what the Oracle games did and use the same engine to produce two different games. With a story interlocking with one another. That's not gonna happen either but it also works.

The idea behind the Nier release being two seperate games gets stranger and a little more interesting the more you look into it. I'm pretty sure (mostly) that the original story of Nier was always supposed to be an older brother saving his younger sister, this would suit the japanese market quite well. However, considering the landscape of Action adventure RPGs at the time somebody stepped in and suggested making an Older Nier that was a father instead, which would end up more suitable for an American audience with games like God of War (supposedly). That also would explain why they released on the consoles they did, PS3 was a japanese console so most people would play the one more suited to their market, and the Xbox was an American consoles so it would fit in with that game library. But when it came to the western release they just stuck with the model that would be more suited to them on both consoles. Except for the fact that Dad Nier acts the exact same as the niave and growing Older Brother Nier, but whatever. When it comes to the re-release they just stuck with the Older Brother Nier since Japanese narrative and character designs have grown much more popular in the west, and it was called Nier Replicant in Japan so it's Nier Replicant. Don't worry about the numbers on the end, I'm almost sure they have no meaning other than it being another way to say Remastered.

Fun Fact: The other two Austin Powers games were meant to be themed after Fat Bastard (Also played by Mike Myers,) and Felicity Shagwell (They were made to coincide with the second movie, The Spy Who Shagged Me.) Ultimately, it’s obvious why the other two were cancelled, but I enjoyed them for what they were as a kid, especially because my dad and I loved Austin Powers. I still do. Those cartridges, underwhelming and empty as they were, are still rather nostalgic to me.

Another dual-ish release was Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion releasing the same day. If you used the GameCube's GBA link cable you could connect them to unlock the Fusion suit in Prime and the original Metroid in Fusion. I guess it was tough to decide which to play first, in Europe we didn't get Prime until February 2003 though so that wasn't a decision I had to make.

I have to say I freaking loved that Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team released on both systems! I only had a GBA at the time so to kid me it felt like I had a DS-level game, and when I got a DS and Blue Rescue Team it was so awesome seeing the differences! It's definitely just nostalgia here, but I don't even care, I love those games

The reason for the Nier release wasnt them trying to grab for a dual release. The original release was with Old Man "Papa" Nier as the protag but it wiffed sales wise in Japan bc the target demographic didn't relate to the protag so the sales were shit. So they made Replicant replacing him with a younger more "shounen" protag (Brother Nier) to get the Japanese audience interested and to buy it. Thats why its the same game with only a few minor plot changes and vastly different characters. In all future games of the series it treats Brother Nier as the protag and pretty much never talk about Papa Nier.

I bought Oracle of Seasons when it released and enjoyed it, never got around to Ages. Then, 10 years later I happened to be working at a flea market and saw it. I friggin grabbed it so fast! Dusted off my SP and finally got the full experience collecting all the rings. It was awesome 😝!

One I would like to add : "Looney Tunes Collector" with the games "Martian Alert" and "Martian Revanche" on Game boy Color. It shares similar music, the same gameplay/engine with the same characters but differs with a completely different story and a different main character (either Bugs Bunny or Marvin Martian). While not quite a dual release in that they didn't release on the same day, I feel that Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life and Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life really could have used some addressing here. I had both, don't judge me, but it was essentially the same game but with a male or female protagonist. Another Wonderful Life had some updates, like the need to plant seeds to make your field of grass grow, but it was pretty minor. Natsume was asking players to choose their characters' gender the moment they bought the game.

With pokemon blue and red rescue team, I think you can link the ds version to the gba version instead of using passwords, but only if your using the original ds because from my knoledge i think they both use the same type of charging port edit: i think you'd also have to be using the gba sp in order for it to work

Aside from Pokemon, some of my favorite "dual release" games were the Transformers games on the DS. I remember playing the multiplayer with my friend and my cousin's brother. (My friend had Autobots, while my cousin's brother had Decepticons. I had both. This was for the first game.) As for tbe "Revenge of the Fallen" game, same thing. (Only difference is I had both versions, while both my friend and my cousin's brother had Autobots.) I was only one of the 3 of us to own the "Dark of the Moon" and "War for Cybertron" games. So, I had to rely on one of them to play the multiplayer. If I had to rate them, it would be: 1. War for Cybertron 2. Revenge of the Fallen 3. Transformers (2007) 4. Dark of the Moon (Dark of the moon being my least favorite game makes sense, considering it is my least favorite movie in the series.)

Oh god Fire Emblem Fates is one I am intimately familiar with. There was a version of the games that contained 2/3 of the stories at launch, my brother and I couldn’t afford the full special edition bundle, so we preordered those instead. I got Conquest+Birthright and he got Birthright+Conquest. It functions pretty much exactly like how you mention, you pick your path a few hours in rather than at purchase. And while I can say there were a lot of creative decisions that I feel hurt Fates more, I think the fact that it tried to dual release was certainly a part of it. Which is why I think the next mainline Fire Emblem game, Three Houses, didn’t try to attempt a dual release.

One thing you have to add is that Gamefreak has "improved" trading between versions, with eggs you can farm starters (you had to trade from new files in the first gen)and later they basically killed the exclusivity between versions by adding online trade, obviously they have deviously kept the multiversion releases to increase profits.

Every time I feel bad about buying two copies of each Pokemon game, I look at how much mint condition copies of black and white or HeartGold and SoulSilver sell for and then I don't feel so bad that I have double the crazy resale value. I barely played Heart Gold, but it's worth $160 more than I paid for it.

One that I also remember are Digimon Dawn & Dusk on the DS. When I tried them both, I was surprised that not just the digimon you can recruit, but even the characters, locations, and story were different. I didn't play very far in them, so they might have become more similar later on, but it was a surprise for sure.

Ah, I remember the summer of 2013 when my brother randomly got a 2ds with Pokemon X at Target, my mother said it was for us to share, when really I played it once on the car ride home, then watched my brother play until Christmas when I got a limited edition 3ds xl with Pokemon Y, I played that game to death. I remember visiting more family that evening, showing everyone that funny stop motion animation dinosaur video that came preinstalled. Than next Christmas my brother opened a copy of Omega Ruby at my parents house, and I was sorta jealous since watching the trailers for that game made it look so good, but then when we went over to my grandparents house later on in the day, I opened a copy of Alpha Sapphire and immediately fell in love with that game. Still vividly remember going to a family reunion in the evening of Christmas day, just playing Alpha Sapphire on my great aunts house steps, completely sucked in to the game.

14:33 Turns out, due to a Nintendo Gameboy lotcheck leak, there's an answer to this! Prototypes of the 3rd and 4th Austin Powers games were in there, and they do have character themes. The 3rd focuses on the women of the series, while the 4th focuses on the villains of the series. So no, "This f*ckin guy?" doesn't actually have one, it's more general.

Red and Blue was a stroke of genius. Imagine if Pokemon was just released on the Gameboy as "Pokemon". You ask your parents for a copy of Pokemon and they tell you "we already own that game, just share with your brother". You all know parents everywhere would do this.

@@anon_y_mousse There are several hacks where they've combined both Pokemon Red and Blue (actually, I think there's at least one hack like that for every generation up to the DS). It easily fits on a single cartridge. Although I completely understand you wondering if it would, since Pokemon Red and Blue are notorious for barely fitting on the cartridge due to how unoptimized they were. But since the differences are literally just a few lines of code (the exclusive Pokemon themselves are clearly already on the cartridge, otherwise you wouldn't be able to trade them), it turns out that they could've been combined easily. That being said, I'm glad it was a dual release though.

@@DanVzare this issue was made even worse in GSC lol, they had to fit TWO regions (including Kanto), 532 Pokémon sprites (including shinies and Unown), time correlating events, and more for the original Game Boy (for GS at least) I believe Masuda said that if it wasn’t for Satoru Iwata coming in to help come up with a compression system, the games wouldn’t have even come out

In defense of Black 2 and White 2, those games not only had different Pokémon, but the actual layouts of the games were a bit different, the most notable example being Route 4. In the first games it was just a desert with some construction work going on. In the sequels, Black 2 saw the fully completed street with buildings, while White 2 had the project abandoned due to the discovery of ruins at the site. The games had legitimate different layouts in many places that made it more than just “oh a few colors and Pokémon are different!” With Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl there’s an actual flag in the code you can switch to change the version of the game. One dinky little bit of code is the difference between two $60 games that are way too faithful remasters instead of the tried and true adaptation combo of the third game and the original releases.

my brothers and I had this gameboy memory card thing where you could back up your save files. it's how the 3 of us managed to share a copy of pokemon yellow. When Gold/Silver came out my little brother and I shared Gold, and my older brother got Silver. Apparently you could back up a save of Silver and load it into Gold and then the cartridge would think it's Pokemon Silver.

The Megaman Battle Network games did a better job than anything else on releasing more than one version. In one game you'll have a couple different chips from link navis than the other but you'll also have different link navi abilities, for instance in Cybeast Gregar you have Gregar's abilities and heat cross (which is fire abilities) whereas in Falzar you have Falzar's abilities and aqua cross. It's a condensed explanation but it's more than most Pokémon games where one has a Pokémon the other doesn't and the Megaman versions can significantly change strategies. It is the same story though, so yeah.
