NOTE: The method we use to access the CPU is the same as the one used by iFixit in their teardown - We chose to do it this way because it's more likely that an end user will have the tools required. The "intended" way requires a long-neck Torx driver to reach the screws through the heat sink.

For the people who whine and complain about this or that terrible thing Apple has done, well there is an entire industry that caters their every whim. @montex66 The Mac Pro literally looks like a cheesegrater, saying that doesn't mean you hate apple. I don't hate apple; I use apple products everyday for work, my personal laptop is an m1 mac. And saying people hate apple for existing is a strawman. People have legitimate reasons for hating apple (see: all their anti-competitive and anti-consumer behavior).

@Christian Storms it looks terrible, but it’s great for reducing fan noise and seeing as the main buying audience for the top spec Mac Pro’s is audio engineers/producers/studios then that makes sense, along with many other features the Mac Pro has which don’t make sense from a personal buyers pov (for example, who needs 12 thunderbolt 3 ports at 40gb/s? Anyone who wants to plug in more than 3 professional audio interfaces, and seeing as it’s useless as a competitive server, who would want the option to have it rack mounted other than anyone who owns a large amount of racks to put all their rack mounted audio interfaces in)

Great video. If you really want to investigate how many different types of screws a manufacturer can put into a product, go work on any mid-1980's GM product. Have fun :P Also, in terms of commodities: the extra dollar spent on a different color of PCB equates to a huge reduction in profit per production run. As my dad told me (he was a machinist) by using the same part on a dozen different products, even a small company can make an extra million dollars per year.

I like the way the cooler slides in. When I'm installing a cooler I always wonder if I put it down evenly enough and whether the paste spread the way I wanted it to. If the cooler is put down at an angle the paste can spread to one side and leave a big part of the IHS bare.

gone are the days of the Mac 512K with everything you needed on a few 3 1/2 disks. the possibilities seemed endless, and with something called a mouse you could draw right on the screen! sure it was b/w but it was small enough to be portable (kind of). It wasn’t exactly cheap at $2500, but that’s what it cost for the newest cutting edge consumer tech. i loved that computer. still have it actually.

CoolCoolerGaming it’s not hard, but it’s sure harder than it should be. Torx/Torx security screws are only used when a company doesn’t want you messing with the hardware. I’ve also never had to use multiple screwdriver heads or power tools when upgrading a PC.

I want to thank whoever that was to film Linus putting in the ram. I was working on my first build and I was stumped why it wouldn’t work. How difficult would it be, to adapt the MPX module card to a PC? It seems Apple has plenty of the Radeon cards, but they’re tucked away in their strange module configuration. It seems like only power would be required, for the 5700x, and the ProII, but the dual card accesses the second full PCI connector so it would be far more difficult.

Something I will give Apple is their machines are SUPER tidy and slick internally. I had to open my Mac Mini one time, and the internals of that thing are *poetry*. Sure, it's a pain to reach some parts, but it's a damned handsome pain lol

The truth is that the same rationale applies to a lot of server systems ( Dell PowerEdge, HPe, Lenovo, etc..): Get the chassis with the base config, then source the CPUs, Memory, Disks/NVMe from elsewhere.. This is a huge cost-saver for homelabs!

I have the late 2014 Mac. First Mac. I had. I want the new version. I realized that if I got the lowest stuff that I could, I would pay about half the price I paid for the version I have now. haha Seems like upgrading would be fun. I've not worked on computers since early 2000 with my Windows PC. So getting back into it seems exciting. I would be fine with 190 some gigs of memory. Faster processor, better video card and more hard drive space. The only worry is, what if something happens and you destroy the new stuff and the Mac. haha But one never knows unless they try.

on the 4,1 / 5,1 it was only 4 screws per CPU to remove the heatsink from the CPU/Memory tray :)

It's so incredible to think that this thing now has 3 million times as much memory as my first PC, the venerable Amstrad 1512. That's if my maths is correct, which I'm not totally sure about. In any event, it's a shitload more.

I guarantee for as much as you spent on those two comps. You could build two high end gaming PCs and a yearly subscription to any editing software of your choice for both PCs (yea I'm aware you can share product keys with most editing software but you get my point.) Hell you could buy a used Tesla and still build a gaming PC for that much.

The other day I was speccing out the Mac Pro in the Apple Brasil site to see how absurd the maximum price would be and it came to a whopping 542.447,80 BRL (Brazilian Reais), which at the current exchange rate would be a little over 960000 USD. That's almost 43 grand in US dollars more than the US price. You could almost buy another one with that difference. I did this to test the "Brazil Cost", which is how we name the absurdly increased prices of products when they get here, specially electronics. Most of that is due to excessive taxes. P.S.: When I finished speccing and saw the price, I told my friend Rafaela and started laughing and she looked at me like I was crazy. I was merely laughing at the absurdity of the price!
