DEEP DISCOG DIVE: A Tribe Called Quest

We Got It From Here is hands down the best comeback album from any artist

The Love Movement ironically doesn’t get enough love. It’s a really nice album that people often forget about!

My uncle was very broken up over Phife's death. Back when his main gig was DJing in the Bay Area in the late 90's early 00s he did some work in radio and got to interview Phife in 2003. He's really glad he got to have that personal interaction with him.

You should do a De La Soul deep dive. You'll probably have to resort to TRvid for most of the albums given their label (and sample clearance) situations making a majority of their stuff unavailable on streaming save for their most recent two. But De La definitely needs more support and praise. Real scummy how Tommy Boy's been doing them with regards to giving them control of their material.

A Tribe Called Quest made so much good music that you can make a 24 minute video on their history and not even mention Check The Rhime, probably their biggest and most beloved song

Remember being at Barnes of noble (out of all places) looking at all the cds when I was 9 years old. The low end theory caught my eye and a convinced my mom to get it for me. Listen to that cd every day for a long and saved up all my money to get midnight marauders. Those two albums defined my childhood in a nutshell and tribe will always hit different for me. Thay shit was something special

After watching this, and the Grammys video, it makes me wish so badly that you'd have more ladies in your deep discog dive series. It's my favorite thing you do, and I'd love to know more about some of the most iconic female artists

I place 'Midnight Marauders' & 'The Low End Theory' alongside the great albums from all genres and eras of music. They still hold up, and will continue to hold up.

I listened to Midnight Marauders for the first time a couple years back in my first day of college. I never realized it until now that i'm a few weeks from graduation that it was the soundtrack to my college years. This album will forever have a special place in my heart.

I’m from mexico I found ATCQ looking for a choreography, the guy used “electric relaxation” as a introduction, I heard it and I loved it, I looked for it, and I continued listening more and more, the whole album, more albums and that was it, I really love atcq the best hip Hop group

Let’s NOT forget that Tribe’s debut album, “People’s Instinctive Travels & The Path of Rhythm” was the 1st ‘Five Mic” album from The Source. 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤 🙏🏾⚡️

I didn’t know about Georgie Porgie up until now, and I decided to look up the full lyrics. I thought he was exaggerating. Nope, it legitimately is just extremely blatant homophobia all throughout.

Butter is insane. I mean it's pretty self-explanatory. Dis Generation also felt like a huge passing of the torch moment in the rap game as well

As a huge Tribe fan I would highly suggest listening to their albums in their release order. That way you can appreciate their journey which really puts their last album in perspective

I’m about to be 42 and play low end or midnight marauders at least once a week..my fave hip hop group ever..they are the best to ever do it..I’m so glad I got to work for them and seen them perform w phife ..my inner 12 year old was so happy I almost cried 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Midnight marauders is one of my favorite albums. High school took such a different turn once I discovered their music fr.

I love all of their albums and have been listening to all of the albums this past week. A Tribe Called Quest are my top 10 favorite rappers of all time. They don’t get enough credit for their music and they have the most unique sound. They are known for their jazz style sampled beats. I knew Phife Dawg had diabetes since his younger days, so he had died from complications of that disease. It broke my heart when he died, so the group minus Ali Shaheed Muhammad made a comeback album We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service. The group brought back original member Jacobi White who left the group during their debut album for culinary school. Also, it was their best comeback album I ever heard, so Ali Shaheed Muhammad wasn’t on the writing credits. It had a lot of collaborations on the album from André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, Talib Kweli, Consequence, and Busta Rhymes. After hearing of all of their albums, Busta Rhymes was on all of their albums. The group has reunited 3 times after their 1998 breakup. Q-Tip and Phife didn’t always get along with each other since the two became lifelong friends. I advice people to listen to their music if you haven’t heard it yet. These guys were in their prime and made great music for all generations. I hope Q-Tip will make more music since the record labels don’t wanna promote him. It’s a dirty game in the music business. I would have wish they made a collaboration album with OutKast; that would be dope.

Movin Backwords has to be my fav song from Tribe. Jarobi snapped and Anderson Paak gave what is easily my fav vocal performance from him ever. It’s gorgeous

I’m so glad someone a few years ago showed me the song “Can I Kick It?”. Ever since then, Tribe has been in my playlist.

The Deep Discog Dive is always great. Because it eather introduces me to music I haven't heard of or gives me a new perspective on I have already listened to. But in the other hand, every month that it isn't about The Killers is one I die inside a little.

Just wanted to say it wasn’t the velvet underground being sampled but rather Lou Reeds transformer Also you gotta do Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground on a DDD Some classic rock would make sense given out of the 10 last DDDs 7-8 are hip hop

Tribe are the reason I got into Hip Hop, my dad played Check the Rhime for me when I was 14 and I was hooked man. It also gave me and my dad something to have in common.

I was first introduced to Tribe's music in 1999, and it was The Love Movement. I listened to it repeatedly. That was the soundtrack of my summer 1999. THEN I went back to PIT&TPR, Midnight Marauders, Low End Theory. I didn't listen to Beats, Rhymes & Life until years later. The Love Movement is very underrated, but it holds a special place for me because of being 14, having a big crush on a girl, and feeling the summer vibes.

Quest dissed MC Hammer on Check the Rhime, years before Beats, Rhymes, and Life. MC Hammer fired back in 1994, and then I think that might be the inspiration for "Phony Rappers"

The first time I heard Bonita Applebum bumping out the trunk of a Jeep in the early 90’s in Jersey had me hooked. Went and got the tape. Midnight Marauders was my high school soundtrack. Also the Scenario remix had me hunting trying to figure out how to find it…heater 🧨🌡🔥

Beats, Rhymes & Life is so underrated. “The Hop” containd Phife’s best performance ever IMO, disagree he sounds unfocused. And the production is great! Prefer it to Marauders honestly, but TLE is my crown jewel

When Beats, Rhymes & Life came out, Tribe had a lot of groups sounding like them, so the ""Phony Rappers" track was addressing the Diggable Planets, Camp Lo's, etc,...Sidenote, If Phife saw what Q Tip was doing behind him at 10:08, he woulda punched Tip in his stomach. Lol

Although Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are timeless albums(love them both), there’s just something about We Got It From Here that I’m connected to whether it be the nostalgia or maybe something else entirely.

Midnight Marauders was one of the first records I purchased on vinyl, before I even started listening to A Tribe Called Quest. Needless to say, it's one of my favorites in my collection(and one of the cheapest).

My top tribe tracks are mainly their older ones but albums like the love movement had sleepers in my opinion like bustas lament (insanely chill beat), also we got it from here was amazing, my favorite might be Dis Generation

I hate to pick a favorite Quest song but Bugging Out will always be my favorite because its what introduced me to them back on Dave Mirra's BMX 2.

Don't know if you can consider Tip the most prolific post "We've Got it From Here" if you consider the amount of music Ali has put out with Adrian Younge for their imprint "Jazz Is Dead," which currently is sitting at 7 albums. Great video! Cheers.

Saxsquatch for the win! You didn't mention Ron Carter who played upright bass on the Low End Theory. Had a lot to do with shaping the sound of Tribe and, of course, the great bass lines on that album.

I went travelling over the summer and listened to a lot of Tribe. My last stop was Vienna and I ended up finding a 1990s print of Midnight Marauders for a steal of a price (26 euro, Discogs listen it near 70 atm). Still puts me in a good mood when I need it.

Please do De La Soul, Gang Starr, or The Roots next! All of them are some of the greatest discographies in hip hop and all have great history and stories surrounding them.

One of my favorite albums of all time is definitely Instinctive travels and paths of rhythm.

This album was the first rap I had ever listened to and is what got me into hiphop. The entire album from beginning to end is timeless and ages well, getting better each and every time u hear it. One of the best, and not one single cuss word spoken! Verses from the abstract, man the whole song list DOPE.

So very well done! Their last album is my favorite, I listened to it everyday for a year and I’m a jazz musician 🎷!! I have no clue how to tribe called quest is not mentioned in everyone’s top five hip-hop of all time

People's Instinctive Travels is still my favourite Tribe album. It's one of a very select few that I can go back to and cheer me up whatever my mood is.
