Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and Batch Streets Back Alright. Bad Batch Season 2 is now out and in this video we're gonna be breaking down the first two episodes, pointing out all the easter eggs and also giving our review on these new entries.

Now incase you need a quick refresher on Season 1, the finale dealt with the fall of Tapoca city with Hunter being a captive on Kamino.

Rescued by the rest of the Bad Batch and Omega, the group had to team up with Crosshair once more in order to escape the doomed city. From the sky the empire reigned fire on the cloning facility explaining why we haven't seen anymore clones. The group managed to make it out with Crosshair revealing that he'd actually had his chip removed.

He'd sided with the empire on his own and the group then parted ways. The series ended with Nala Say being escorted to a mysterious cloning facility which could be seen by the patch on the scientists arm. It was the same one that Dr Pershing wore in The Mandalorian and it's probably Star Wars once more trying to explain why somehow Palpatine returned.

Now the first episode is called Spoils of war or as I call it Heavy Spoils of War.

This combat term typically means when a military force has seized enemy property and it was a coined by the United States in accordance with the laws of war. This is reflected in the intro with Wrecker and co racing acoss a tropical planet with a container, however it plays into the real mission which we'll get into later on.

Now this title is juxtaposed by the second entry which is called The Ruins Of War. They're two completely opposed states with one meaning a victory and the other being the opposite.

They're chased by crab people and I've looked through all the star wars data banks but can't quite find this exact species.

Tbh I don’t think he’s dead. We never saw where he got shot, he was on what looked to be a dam and if Star Wars has taught us anything, if a character doesn’t keel over and die on screen, then he’s probably not dead (I’m not taking about that “somehow Palpatine returned” bs either. I’m talking about Maul, Cere. Boba, Aura and whoever else survived their various deadly scenarios.

I loved the moments between Omega and Echo in these two episodes. These episodes seemed somewhat more tropy than usual, and they were not quite as good as the best episodes of season 1, but I think they were still both 8/10s.

"roger wilco" (or romeo wilco) means "recieved, will comply". So being named wilco is a nod to their nature, genetically engineered to be totally obedient, which is the overall theme of this show. Meanwhile, omega simply responds "roger" when told to stay put - I might be reaching, but I think this is a little nod to the fact that she's listening, but she's still going to make her own decision - the other side of the coin.

Secondary character Clone names typically lack subtly. Like the Clone trooper Hotshot who died by literally falling into lava. Or Charger who was killed via electrocution. (both of these clones died in the Citadel arc of Clone Wars in case anyone's interested). Actually on second thought, Star Wars names in general lack subtly. Like every Sith name ever comes to mind.

I really enjoyed them too! They were simple and straightforward in the overall narrative to allow us time to catch up with the characters and where they are in the story. It was fun and I’m excited to see where we go from here. The animation continues to look fantastic and often makes me feel like that may be the better way to go with most of their television content vs live action films and occasional miniseries. This allow more room in the budgets for better produced live action projects like Andor. Excellent Breakdown Paul!

So at the end of the rescue pickup, after the container finishes the tumble down the cliff into the valley, with them being on the ship, they could have zipped down to the bottom, found a few crates of loot and then hit the road with some travelin' money for road trip snacks. 🤔

Funny fact about the starwars siren sound: Did you know the same sound was used in rayman 3 hoodlum havoc aswell? It was used when you leave the first crown gate in the longest shortcut, where you'll end up on an outside platform with windmills outside it, once you step on the walk-switch the sirens start playing and the windmills blow, opening up the passage leading to the next "short cut" I like to think ubisoft did this as an homage to starwars 😃

I have mixed reaction on the season so far it nice seeing Omega finally able to take part and be able to do something. The thing I hate is that there is less humor than the first season. That was missing. The ending really made up. It was telling that something big is coming. The phasing of clones to randoms is actually coming I believe. I liked that old man, I absolutely loved how he gave Omega a toy explaining how it was more precious than gold.

These episodes, especially "Ruins of War" seemed to have tones of the Migs monolog in Mando season 2 ("Empire, Aliance. There is no difference to these poeple. Each are occupiers of their world.) and similar to what Tony Gilroy was going for in I see the seed of that germinating in Tech and Echo, especially when the gentleman said he wasn't a Sepratist, he was a Simlarian.

I love ya brother but never sing Backstreet Boys again. Yet! I love this breakdown and Ryan Areys. There’s so much Star Wars stuff out there I haven’t read with the books/comics etc. Yet I’ve watched every movie and now catching up with the animated Tv shows. Loving Bad Batch! FYI, Monuments Men wasn't about the 'seizure of Hitler's' art'. It was about the *recovery* of the art that the Nazis had systematically pillaged as they rampaged across Europe. The historical record is very clear about this. Perhaps it's a subtle difference, but it's one worth maintaining.

I don’t understand why they have to make Omega so stupid. She’s very good at strategy and figuring out ways out of difficult situations, so why don’t they use her strengths instead of this bullshit? I understand she’s a child, but come on, pick a lane and stick to it.
