I will never join your b******* website again you stole my identity to you f****** c*** I hate you just as much as I hate your corrupt government you were super f****** corruptible I'm a corrupt leader named Donald Trump who's a c*** and I'm going to beat the f*** out of them
Yup, learning about what happened between House Bolton & House Stark in the past it makes even more perfect sense why they betrayed them in the show now... knowing their ancestors wanted to rule the North & were in a massive blood war with the Starks.
@Nik more? As in how many more thoufh? 2 episodes a season or so for the last 2 seasons? That wouldn't have been enough. The painful fact is, dumb and dumber ran out of source and ran out of ideas, they couldn't have bailed quicker
@KayKay2513 do you know how much each episode would cost, it would be like a blockbuster movie every week. GoT was a victim of its own success. It was fine when the biggest names were Sean Bean, Lena Headey and the likes. But then everybody else blew up and obviously with offers for movies and other shows coming, their salary massively inflated. You'd literally be talking about 60-70 million a show. Did you ever wonder why the Dire Wolves basically became non existent in the show or why they didn't delve deeper into the book storyline? The cost was simply prohibitive. On the flipside, you create a prequel or a sequel with all new basically unknown actors and save a TON of cash. We all wish they could have stayed going, but alas, money talks and bullshit walks
They could have done soooo much, they could have had 20 seasons! We could be watching new episodes on Sundays instead of prequels. There was enough material.....stupid dumb&dumber 😤😤😤
They simply couldn't do it. They had ran themselves too wide to wrap it all up without doing 15 or so seasons and by then they'd be paying an ensemble cast over a million an episode apiece. They couldn't even afford to do dire wolves AND dragons for the most part, that's why we saw very little dire wolf stuff compared to what they did in the books.
@Jeke San that would have been tight getting to see yi ti and the rest of the east and ashai woulda been cool asf but we do get to see westoros in a better economic and better ruling class in the targs viserys was a good kind paddy considine did an amazing job
A well developed story line. A lot of time and effort must have been put into getting this video together. I've just about finished reading A Storm of Swords and am boggled by the sheer length of this epic that is ASoIaF.
Wow, having never read the books I never knew what a superpower the Targaryans were. They always just seemed to be some ancient house that was never fully explained. Dany's drive to sit on the throne makes so much more sense now. Thank you for this!
This video was posted 5 years ago and the series ended 3 years ago and you guys are only finding out now about the history of the Targaryens ruling Westeros? 😂
@Skabanis Malaka but we aren’t taking about Valeria right? Game of thrones doesn’t take place in Valeria, it takes place in Westeros; the targaryens were absolutely THE super power in Westeros for many years
George would never write or greenlight that. The Dawn Age, the Last Long Night, and other obscure mythological events need to remain muddied. It's what adds the mystery to the story. If it was all explained there wouldn't be a wonder factor that the reader / watcher could then fill in on their own. GRRM himself has said it about eastern Essos, Sothoryos, etc. It's to make the world feel larger and to add wonder. However, it would be interesting to see how they'd handle something like the Dawn Age. They'd really need to have a strong story and very good writing as it has events that are the foundation of ASOIAF.
William A it. Is all in the show, first there was a book written explaining the history then the show started and then he explained everything that happened in the show. Who said and did what event after event. Watch the show pay attention it is all there.
Andrea Dobos it got cancelled because they tried being woke and making all the characters black and and being cursed to turn into the children of the forest but the Targaryen prequel is still going on
Couple of bones to pick, but it's very well done. The biggest issue I have is the insinuation that Aegon III tried to keep dragons going but that he simply failed. He had a deep distrust and dislike of dragons due to his childhood.
I wonder what happened with Joramun and Brandon, the Breaker. I mean, if the free folk and the Starks worked together to end the Nights' King, thousands of years ago and Joramun and his people still stayed north of the wall after the fighting was done, are they not themselves at fault for staying there? I guess they wanted to be free of the politics and following of leaders in the south, but they still blame them for building the wall. I don't know man, it's probably a complicated story that I'd one day like read or see. Hopefully Bran will grant us a vision into the past to show us what happened. A man can dream, I suppose.
The free folk want freedom from the laws and rules of the seven kingdoms, that's why they are not within the kingdoms, I'm pretty sure if they wanted to go beyond the wall and agreed to the laws and rules they will be welcomed by the north or other kingdoms
Bro, Essos is so fascinating. Westeros is cool and all, but Essos is just so Bizarre in such a cool way. I hope one of the HBO spinoffs shows more of essos
@Mr Hello 76 We also need to see Y Ti empire and their gigantic tower from the age of Long Night and also the gigantic giant that is far bigger than Westerosi giants
I really want at the very least, a "spin-off" of sorts centered around the seamingly endless continent of Sothoryos; maybe depictions of settlements trying to inhabit Yeen, or a spin-off mini-series about Asshai and it's wanderers It would be awesome to view this in the perspective of a random Shadowbinder honing his/her skills in magic, avoiding death from the natural elements and hostil surroundings of the area
When people moan about Martin not coming out with the latest book I am certain they have only followed the TV version which I really love but I started reading these books in the early days and have been incredibly impressed that one man could possibly have just thought all of this up on his own. It is phenomenal and you can see why even a brief run on TV would not be able to explain all of the plots and sub plots and history. This is why they have focused on a few characters who aren't even that signifiant to the overall plot and who are fan favourites (even as we love to hate them). George RR Martin has a mind that is almost impossible to comprehend. When he says he writes without a script I believe him but also admire that anyone could accomplish what he has. When I first learned that they were coming out with the show on HBO I couldn't imagine where they would even begin. I think in all we have had the pleasure of watching the show and when people get tired there are things like this. The links are great as well. This presentation is excellent and I will be recommending it to friends who are wondering why the next book is taking so long. When we think that Martin is basically bringing this incredible story to a conclusion of sorts (who knows) we have to admire him even more. This would be like saying good bye to characters that have lasted in his mind for decades. For all I care HBO can run this for ten more years and I won't lose interest. I am eager to see what type of spin off they come up with. None are going to ever get this far into it but well done!
Taking time to make sure something is good is understandable, but there’s a point when it should have been done and good awhile ago. Look at Brandon Sanderson. He’s writing a good (and decently sized) book every year or two, all of which are connected in one big universe, and each world having its own unique magic system that has very well thought out rules.
Nice job on this. I have listened to the audio books, but the TV show keeps sticking in my head. This concise description of what happened helped me remember the books. Thanks. :)
@Dingo 154 a year later yes i know. the fall of the targaryen dynasty was inevitable however if he was to be King it would have been interesting to see how that downfall would have occurred
@Charlie Parsons I think what dingo means is that if aemon hadn't been a maester and took the iron throne, he wouldn't have had the oppurtunity to grow old cuz there would be so many factors to consider. As a maester of the nights watch, he never layed with a woman, never had kids, never drank because he's a maester. If he was king, he would have drank and layed to his heart's extent as all highborn people do. He wouldn't have lived past the age of 60 or 70. And with the rebellions in mind, his life could have been shorter.
@Dingo 154 What do you mean "He wouldn't even lived as long due to the stress" no ruler in the history of the Iron Throne died due to stress, maybe you have played too much ck2, also he may have had a decent chance at being a good ruler due to his training as a maester. He could have stopped Robert's Rebellion if he hadn't taken the Black as he would have been King, and his brother Aegon V wouldn't have been king which means Jaehaerys II wouldn't have been king which means Aerys II (The Mad King, the King who caused Robert's Rebellion) wouldn't have been king, so yes, he could have kept the Targaryens in power the same goes for if Duncan hadn't married Jenny of Oldstones.
This was well done and helpful. Thank you for your time and effort to help us understand the history of Ice and Fire. It helped put a lot in proper context and clear up some confusion. You could even break it up into sections and go into more detail in their own videos!
No one ever brings up the fact that the last hero used lady forlorn, a dragonsteel blade to fight the white walkers thousands of years before Valyria is even founded... Dragons had to have existed in Westeros during the time of the long night.
That was awesome and must of taken some time to put together. It's appreciated, I've read all the books up to a dance with dragons, it's been sitting on my shelf for years. so this was a nice refresher before I get into it.
Yooooooooo: This is so---- crazy! Thanks CivilizationEx for this post! It definitely is no easy thing to have created this video 🙏 You covered so--- much! My hope is that HBO goes with it and the entire story line...-Much like Disney is running away with the Star Wars thing. HBO could just bounce around different timelines and cover the whole thing. They have content and new series from the Ice & Fire stuff that could last them a century or more. Btw: I'm saying this in 2022, during the "House of the Dragon" (HBO) release
So, according to this chronology, only 2 years passed between Ned's execution and the Purple Wedding and all the rest of the events took place in the year 300 AC, right? I thought there had passed more than 5-7 years.
“I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R’hollor shows me only Snow.” Yeah okay Jon Snow is the “Prince Who Was Promised” and when George RR Martin finishes his books you’ll know
Wow.... good job. I always knew the book was better than the show but I forgot just how much better it is. I really really wish G.R.R.MARTIN could live along enough to finish it. Such a shame but hopefully there is someone talented enough to take over from him when the time comes.
So the books so far have gotten to the point of Jon's betrayal? So it's alright to assume that in the books, Jon might not get resurrected? I wonder how much of the story in season 7 and 8 will relate to the book
Hey Daemon. I live in Platteville, WI. I started reading GotT when the first book came out. One of my favorite series was The Wheel of Timde by Robert Jordan. Also enjoyed the Terry Godkind dserie.s that was his first. Enjoy Blues and classic Rock. Band of all time is still probably the Beatles.
Well, they are the only ancient house to still sit on their castle. Main problem I see with fandom is many people think they gotta look for a hero and in this show there are no heroes, many some heroic moment, but no heroes at all.
this makes me want to actually read the books... Edit: Why didn't the show cover all of this... They could've made more episodes and we would've loved it..
I'm suprised that none of you want a spin off on valyria. Imagine a series that starts with the war against ghys till the doom of valyria. It would be epic as they are the greatest race in my opinion
WOW. Great job. I am glad the tv show diluted the history and carcter arcs. It takes for ever to explained to my wife who is who from where. Just imagine, if it was that complicated, lol.
I remember reading the books in prison and once I get to the part that there was another Targaryen in the east I was like "wtf" then coming home to watch the show and seeing how the show went about it
I would like to point out. 7+ years passed between season 1-8. A takes a month or 2 on average(unless in hurry) to take kings road from king's landing and thats with horse and carriage. So anytime they made that journey or traveled that same length. Any character. A month on average passes. Minus dragon and boat travel. Also raven messages.
Yes considering there is no one close that came to his story telling and world that he created. But I would say George is still no where even close. If you read all his books, dating back from the 80s till now. It's basically the same story. Always mentions some type of time travel, or something from the past that you can travel back and view (3 eye raven and Bran) He always mentions the narrative that war is hell and an absolutely awful thing with no real winners and that the civilians always pay the worst. Even on GOT he didnt plan on any of this, as the book fame and sell grew, so did the story and maps. It wasn't already really thought out as much as Tolkien. George is real lazy on his naming and uses the same names, similar names, or even names from pop culture i.e sesame street. But i do give credit on his creativity and great story telling with twists and mysteries and he is the best at telling you something super important but without telling you it, he does it so vaguely and nonchalantly. Like after the mystery is revealed and go back and reread to see if there was signs you missed. You will see a slight mention here n there, a blink and you'll read past it moment. So really learned to enjoy that aspect. Regardless he is great but miles behind Tolkien. Would have kive
I really want a prequel series(Dunk and Egg) and I guess HBO would be good but I want it done by professionals not D&D... like can we please not have them involved in anything A Song of ice and fire ever again.
@Kurtis Woods nope. Season 5 was when things were good. After that things got worse to worst and shit. Season 7... could've been better and season 8 was a disappointment. I'm not a professional writer but some things don't sound like they'd make things amazing and jaw dropping of excitement. Nah it seems stupid. Even after rewatching afew things during the scenes. They complete threw out every single bit of information.... literally they wasted all other seasons just to lead to stupid scenes that doesn't make any sense. They should've waited before even doing a show on GoT.... Tolkien's books of lotr was completed and Peter Jackson had plenty of information to go off of. And had support of fans and ppl who knew about it like the actors for Gandalf and Saurman. And acouple others who may have known it.
@ehma ebeveridge absolutely. To rank is achievement GOT was on top of stacked list of outstanding tv programming and I dismiss your denial. Most anticipated every episode. Jaw dropper weekly. Did they though? Hell yeah. So good that they slit their own throats trying to get back to the incomparable opening. What do you expect in life and instead of why? Stop. Living people haven't experienced what you're pretending wasn't at times the greatest thing U ever saw. Ass.
I like this one, and defenitely prefer some of the redesigns (The Fisher Queens, The Night's King, etc.) I still prefer the older video. Maybe because it had better bacground music, maybe because it was just set up better, even though less simple, or maybe because I liked most of the older graphics (Hugor of the Hill, Joramun, Nymeria, etc.). Oh, and there's also some information that's a bit hidden in the books, and I haven't seen in any of your videos. So you know how the during the time the first of the tall men, huzhor amhai, appeared, there was a mention of the kingdoms of Cymmeria, Zoqora, the Gipps, and the Hairy Men? Well, if you connects the dots, then you can kind of make a good history out of it: A small portion of the Ibbenese traveled south, and speciaced into the Hairy Men. Then they, along with possibly other peoples like the Joghos Nai from Further East of the Bone Mountains, founded kingdoms like the Cymmerian, and Zoqoran kingdoms. Then, a gourp of people formed The Gipps close to the land of the Fisher Queens. Then, these kingdoms, partially through assimilation into the Kingdom of Sarnor, turned into the First Men, Rhoynar, and Andals.
@Dyer No, guerilla tactics are indeed badass, and extremely respectable. Fuck that "I'm so honorable, I'll brute force you," mentality. That comes from a perspective that relies on it, and war is about deception and adaptation.
Ever wonder if wierwoods are kinda like ego from the mcu? Like is bran gonna spread them across all of Westeros again in an attempt to become even more powerful as his one true goal as the 3 eyed raven?
CivilizationEx. Will do, thank you for the concise condensed informative videos. As a fan of the books who has turned to the television series to tide me over till the next 2 books come I much appreciate your to-the-point videos
You mean if he stuck to tradition then the dance of the dragons and murders of hundreds of thousands wouldnt have occured? See what happens withmotional weak men?!?
