1991 Firebird Project Budget DIY Exhaust Replacement/Repair (Ep.4)

Fuzzy Dice Projects
görünümler 738 011
100% 13 000 0

In this episode we will remove the rusty old exhaust that is full of holes and already lacking a muffler, since it rusted through and broke off. We will be replacing everything behind the catalytic converter, so we bought a new intermediate pipe and a Thrush Hush aftermarket muffler. We'll get a little creative and patch/reuse the old tailpipe in order to keep this as cheap as possible!

Dates of filming: July 25th, 2018 (Exhaust Work)
July 30th, 2018 (Clips of Running Car)

Song List (Order of First Appearance):
0:00 Glen Canyon - Dan Lebowitz
5:45 Keep Dreaming - Topher Mohr and Alex Elena
10:38 The Clean Up Man - Dan Lebowitz
16:00 Green Forest - Riot

If you had the jack stands where he had them all you had to do is undo the bolts from the bottom of the rear shocks then lower the axle

The last scene was awesome from underneath the car. The welds look like ray charles grabbed a soldering iron and some rosin core and went to town. Also the last captions takes the cake. “It also ticks like a diesel, we’ll take care of those lifters in a future episode.” So you got this deep into a car fixing the trans leak exhaust and trunk struts and didn’t bother to find out if the motor was wasted? PRO TIP. Make sure the car is worth saving before pouring your heart and soul into it. I won’t be watching further lol

I love these videos, but god I would be so happy if you cleaned this dang thing before working on it. A 5 dollar can of degreaser and a pressure washer would make this 100% more pleasing to watch. Stresses me out when I see all the gunk getting rubbed all over those brand new parts. I'm not saying you gotta bust out the toothbrush and detail the undercarriage but dang at least scrape off that inch thick coat of gunk.

Why not cut it off? Then weld it back together. No one is going to notice.

Reciprocating saw, 1 or 2 cuts, and the pipe is out.. Or use two jacks to evenly lift car. I'm surprised that you dont have the dual exhaust muffler.

why aren't you using WD40 on the rusty bolts they would come off easier.

Im Blech ist der TransAm noch sehr gut. Da kann man richtig neidisch werden. The TransAm is still very good in sheet metal. You can get really jealous.

Yeah that exhaust on that 92 Firebird. That was an aftermarket replacement the exhaust and tailpipe. Because you can tell the way the pipe was bent. The original exhaust would have had a smoother Benz. But for a 1992 Firebird that makes 200 horsepower. The exhaust system you're replacing the Original aftermarket exhaust is fine. You would think in this This age though. All the pipes cream annual event with smooth transitions Eben Factory replacement exhaust I thought the days up manually Benton them and kink in the pipes were over with but I guess not.

Dude, please stop wearing damn flip-flops while working on cars. Besides them looking gay as hell.....that can be dangerous.... Good way to lose a toe or more!!

Well, you lost me there when you killed the dual tail pipes. Even though it is a single run exhaust pipe, a good sounding Thrush or Flowmaster muffler with dual tail pipes would offer up a healthy tone and attractive dual exhaust tips to enhance the appearance. Might as well be a six cylinder Camaro. I would not want to buy it now. But it’s fun to watch your work.

I love watching your channel and a few similar ones. Not because I'll ever restore a 91' Pontiac. But because I'm a garage monkey like you and it feels good to just get a general idea of where my skills are at and that, in turn, helps my confidence. Overcoming obstacles is really what it's all about. Thanks!

There's something more engaging about this channel compared to the "wrecked new car" repair channels. I guess fighting rust and repairing economically reasonable projects just seems more realistic. To me anyway.

i like your video do i have one tip for you.i see you changed the oil in the rear axel.because the car tilt forwart you have a little too much in the diff.its very wise to lower the oil when the car is standing on his 4 wheels.the reason for this is when you drive the car there will be building pressure in the diff.when there is too much oil in the diff. it will puch it out the oil gasket.actully you create an oil leak.sorry for my bad englich, its not my main language. let oil drip out until it stops drippping.

I like your videos (figuratively) but why do you cut corners? It's a car, when you drive it your life depends on how well it will function, why do you take chances with rusty bolts, and plastic? :/
And Renal
And Renal 2 yıl önce
This dude is cutting WAYYY too many corners... as much as i love his humor and video that thing kinda annoying.. if you went in so deep into fixing that car and already lifted it and removed some parts... why do you leave some of those crusty pipes and waiting for them to die on you and only then fixing it...
